Jun 19, 2010I pre-ordered the Evo from my local RS and got it on launch day. Now I am 2 weeks of owning it but need a replacement due to screen separation, light leakage as well as bad earphone. Now, RS has problems stocking up the Evo units. The manager told me to call Sprint (all their Evos are sold out as well, no??) to check if they can send a replacement unit. Has anyone gotten their phone replaced by RS yet? How do I go on about doing so? I noticed that RS return for exchange policy lasts up to 30 days... Does that mean, I have to get a replacement unit within that timeframe?

Sep 13, 2010I'm super bummed. I'm currently evaluating Android phones and have looked at a lot of them (basically all of the decent HTC phones and the Samsung Epic). The Fascinate is a real stand out and I'd love to keep it. But, as per my thoughts on Bing, I'm going to cash this and go with Sprint. Before I walk away though, I wanted to check here. Anyone heard of a decent approach to getting this phone back to using Google, as God intended it? Specifically, I want to use the dedicated search button to pull up Google text and voice search. Adding Google as a bookmark to the browser isn't really a solution, IMO.

Oct 21, 2010Some of you may remember when I posted about my cell phone contract being sold to AT&T from Verizon. Well, I am very close now to getting a new "comparable" phone from AT&T to replace my Moto Droid. The new phone that they will most likely be sending me is the HTC Aria. Anybody have any thoughts about this phone? Is it a good phone? Is it comparable to the Moto Droid? To be honest, I plan on switching back to Verizon after all this mess anyway. I am just curious (in the rare event that I might be stuck with the phone) as to whether or not this is a good replacement (even though nothing can replace my droid .... I love it so much).

Android :: Syncronizing Mobile Phone Contacts With Contacts From Social Networks
Apr 28, 2010I retrieve a JSON list of contacts from a social network site. It contains firstname, lastname, displayname, data1, data2, etc...
What is the efficient way to quickly lookup my local phone contacts database and "match" them based on their name. Since there are firstname, lastname and displayname this can vary.
What do you think, how can the best match be achieved?
Also how do I make sure I don't parse for each JSON item the whole database I want to avoide having JSON_COUNT x MOBILE COUNT steps
Android :: Convert Google Contacts Back To Phone Contacts
Nov 16, 2010When I switched to the Samsung Fascinate from a previous non-smart phone, I transferred all of my contacts from the phone over. I think in the setup somewhere I chose to convert my contacts to Google contacts. That was really confusing at first, because I didn't know what it did, and didn't even remember I had done that until recently. I'd like to get the contacts back to phone contacts (not Google contacts) for multiple reasons, which I won't bother listing for now. So, does anyone know how to UN-convert or re-convert Google contacts back into phone contacts? I really don't want to have to recreate all of the phone contacts, because I've got a LOT of them. I would remove my Google account from the phone, but I worry that would remove all of my contacts completely, which wouldn't help me.

Jul 26, 2010I own a HTC hero (Orange). With talks of android updates becoming available, there seems to be a mad rush to back up everything so that nothing is lost on the update. There are many ways of doing this, but one of the most common problems, is that people have their contacts saved as 'Phone' contacts and not 'Google' contacts. This means that they will not sync with Google mail. There was no contact export available to me (I think because my firmware was still 1.5).
This seems to be a solution that will solve the problem without having to write out every single contact number in Google mail.
1. Enter android market.
2. Search 'Contact sync'
3. Download/Install this application.
4. Run the application
5. All contacts will be turned from 'Phone' contacts to 'Google' Contacts
6. These contacts will then be synchronized with your Google mail
This means that if your contacts are lost on your phone at any point (eg. an update), they can easily be 'Exported' back to your phone through Google mail.

Jul 17, 2010I got my DroidX on 7/15 and on 7/16 linked all my phone contacts who have facebook to a facebook contact via social networking. I kike how the phone sets the picture, I like that in the contact entry it shows me thier status on facebook. What I don't like is that when I open up a contac that is both a phone contact and a facebook contact and I tap the facebook icon on the contact screen I get 3 options (view profile, write on wall, and poke). If I open up a contact that is only facebook and tap that same Icon I get 4 options (view profile, message, write on wall, and poke). Is there some reason linking the facebook contact to a phone contact needs to remove that option? I'd like to be able to send a facebook message from the phone to any contact as easy as I can send a text message.

However she now needs to return the phone for service (silent call bug) and she went to G mail to ensure all her contacts was backed up... they are not. Apr 16, 2012I don't want my contacts to be synced with Google. IIRC, this was possible in 2.x. Having upgraded to 4.0.4, I'm not able to disable Google contacts.
I'd like to:
1. Disable contact sync (this works)
2. Change all contacts from Google contacts to phone contacts
3. Add new contacts as phone contacts by default.
Using the "Accounts and Sync" settings, I'm only able to deselect "Sync Contacts", but I can't find a way to move the contacts and disable the creation of new Google contacts.

I have a Droid 3. My Accounts include my main Gmail acct, a gmail acct I hardly ever use (no contacts issues there), a pop3 account and a Touchdown-Exchange account which I dont need because Im not connected to that Exchange server any longer. Some time ago, since I wasnt on the Exchange server any more, I deleted the Touchdown account. Then I realized some or most of my Google contacts had disappeared from the phone. Thinking that this would delete the same contacts from the Gmail servers when it synced, I immediately restored the Touchdown account, restoring the lost contacts to the phone. Are these 2 issues related?
