Android :: App To Put More Icons On Panels
Jun 22, 2010
What's the name of that app that lets you squeeze multiple shortcuts into one space on the panels? I remember reading about it a long time ago but didn't have that many apps back then. Now I have too many and they won't all fit

I am sick of dealing with only 3 panels on my DROID! I have searched around the internet and have found no results. I was told to use a home screen replacement, which I tried, and that did not work. Does anyone know of a simple app that has JUST the functionality to add more home screen panels to stock Android (2.0), and if not is there a developer out there that could make this?

I am writing my first Android app. The app is displays bus stop information i want to have a panel for each stop that the user can scroll sideways through, like a weather app with a panel for each city.
Looking at the Dev Guide I don't see how to do this. What Layout Object/ViewGroup should I be using?

I'm making a drawing app. In the centre of the screen, I want the app to contain the user's drawing. At the top of the screen I want buttons for different drawing tools. When a drawing tool is selected, I want buttons specific to that tool to appear at the bottom of the app (e.g. the brush tool might show a "increase brush size" button at the bottom of the screen), replacing what buttons might be there from before. What's a good way to do this?
At the moment, I'm using a relative layout for the whole GUI, then adding a separate linear layout for each tool panel at the bottom of the screen (i.e. the panels overlap when shown together). When a tool button is clicked, I hide all the settings panels except for the one related to the selected tool. This seems a bit messy but I'm not sure how else to do it. It would be nice if I could do it in a way that keeps the code modular for each tool.

I would do this: [URL] .... (created with paint)
Because I get to edit files, but I am looking for a long time without finding how to put ALL the icons on the left, and keep only the icons on the right as in the picture.

I notice that the home screen is customizable but not the four applications on the bottom, the call, email, browser and applications. How would I change those icons with different icons? Mainly the email and browser. How do I turn off or at least severly limit the data that goes to and from my phone. I do not have wireless and am just a bit paranoid about going over my data limit. I got the phone from work and this is my first smartphone so I am a bit nervous about anything I do on it.

is there a way to have a folder in the 'All programs' and then within that folder place the links to applications?
I am looking for something like the start button on a PC.
There are many apps we can install that we never actually need an icon for, such as Phonebook and Cnomp to name but 2.
When I was using a BB I could create a folder and dump the links to similar apps inside or I could simply hide an icon.
How can I do it on the Hero?

I am trying to display a list of all activities (i.e., icon and label) on the phone in a ListView. Here is my code to get the activities:
CODE:..........
However, when I display the list, many of the activities' icons weren't found. I tried both of the following to get the icons to no avail:
resolve.activityInfo.getIconResource() resolve.activityInfo.icon
What's the proper way to do this?

I'm new to Android & Eclipse. I have modified a small app by changing 2 of the icons among other things. When i test the app using emulators all works as expected. But, when i load the .apk file to an actual device, I get the old version of the app (old icons). How can i get the .apk file to use the current icons & code?

Can someone kindly tell me what is the ideal icon size for an app? I read the forums and found it to be 64x64. However, when I view my app on the home screen, the icon looks literally half the size of Skype's icon.. or any other icon for that matter. I think for tabbed menus, the size is 48x48 - can someone confirm?

I'm doing a bit of research for something I'm writing. For icons, is there a particular service like: http://www.androidicons.com/ that devs go to? Or is this largely done by the devs themselves using modified images from places like iStockPhoto. I know the ranges are pretty diverse but would like to get an idea of any method or service that may be popular among devs for generating icons.

I'm not rooted with anything, however I am running Open Home. I also installed the Windows7 Icon Pack for use. However, I wish to change some of the icons it defaults to when I load them up (particularly the Market icon, which defaults to the Recycle Bin).Is there a way to do this manually? or do I need to download another software from the market? I see some people mentioned "Better Cut" but I'm unsure if that does what I am asking, or if it is just a replacement for Open Home.I'm not too savvy poking around the Android OS at the root.

Just downloaded ADW and at the bottom of my home page I had 3 little icons. One was for the dialler, one was to open the app drawer and the 3rd was (I think) to dial the last number. Well I tried to see if i could change the "dial last number" (Which dialled a number OTHER than the last number dialled btw :-p) and somehow I deleted the thing.... Is there anyway I can get it back? Have tried playing around in settings and cant see it... And as fate would have it, I REALLY liked that little extra

Just wondering if it is possible to get icons for applications on the Android Market? For example, if there is an application called "com.mycompany.someapp", is there a way to programmatically grab an image (icon) for that application either through an Android API or by simply downloading it from someplace on the net? I know it is possible to get the icon for an installed app using the PackageManager API; however, I don't believe that works for apps that are not installed. Failing that, since PackageManager can get a list of icons for installed applications, it should be possible to compile a fairly comprehensive list by creating an app that queries the PackageManger and uploads all the installed app icons to a webserver. That's not as nice as a true API, but it seems like it would work reasonably well. Can anyone think of anything particularly wrong with that approach?
