Does anybody know if there's an app that, when you go to sleep at night, switches your network from 3G to 2G at a pre-specified time then back to 3G at a certain time? I know it's simple to manually turn it to 2G and back myself, but I just thought it'd be nice to be lazy and have an app do it for me.

I am checking to see if my app has a network connection Whenever I rotate my screen between landscape and portrait this method returns false. It makes me wonder if Network connections are getting killed during the rotation?

And i observe based on LOG statement that Unsoliciated Command UNSOL_NITZ_TIME_RECEIVED is not getting called at the time of Android system boot-up time with some Service Provider (like BSNL, Reliance) but it's getting called when i insert the Vodaphone and Airtel SIM card. but not able to figure out that How this UNSOL_NITZ_TIME_RECEIVED command has been triggered? If anybody have any idea please help me? Also i willing like to know where i have to made change, is it in Kernel level or Framework level?

View 2 Replies View RelatedIf you go into settings/date and time the first option is a check box that says Automatic (use network-provided values). If you uncheck that it does not stick through a reboot. Upon restarting your phone this box will be checked once again. Now for the interesting part. If I put the phone into flight mode, uncheck the automatic box and then change the time and/or date. The instant I re-check automatic the time is reset correctly. How is this possible? I thought that flight mode actually turned the radio off. If it does indeed turn the radio off then how is the phone able to instantly set the time to the correct value?

While looking at You Tube videos it pops up i reply and when i go back to my video its just blank will not restart or anything else i have to hit back and click on the vid from the start. Its just annoying. Anyone know a work around this. I am Rooted i also have Tasker (but not that good where i can figure out how to do this) Does this happen to everyone is this just the network not being able to handle text and data at the same time. It worked fine on my old iphone.
View 3 Replies View RelatedAll I want to do is from time to time check my mails. For this, I want to activate the mobile network connection (3G) manually for a short period of time, and then de-activate it again.
The problem is that enabling the "mobile network" checkbox after my phone has been idle for some time, doesn't actually activate the 3G connection. (no "H" or "G" icon in the notification bar)
So when I open the mail app it complains with a "connection failed" message.
Even better would be if I could find a way to have my mails automatically checked whenever the connection is activated ...
Other than that I'm very happy with the phone.
The closest I know of are mxplayer and vplayer. Any xda alternatives people know of?

Can it not be that provided by network as it goes when it is GPS. Or if network provider cannot provide time , then atleast location.getTime() should return 0 instead of device time. Is there any way to avoid device time, as I want to distinguish it.

View 9 Replies View RelatedI use a Samsung i5700 (Spica/Galaxy Portal/whatever it's called this week) and ideally I want to be able to toggle 3g off and on (for the sake of battery). Problem is that every solution (Juice Defender, APNDroid etc) work perfectly for maybe an hour, but then 3g stops being able to connect, forcing me to reboot (at which point everything is fine until I toggle 3g off again as above). Having read about this stuff, it seems to be a problem for many people, not just users of this particular phone.

Is there a way for ActivityA to get notified or detect when the user switches from TaskA to TaskB? As a use scenario, when the user launches my app, my ActivityA will always be the root Activity of the newly created Task. ActivityA will make use of Activities from other Apps, which will be pushed on the same Task. I would like to get notified when the user has switched to another application. In this case, onStop() in MyActivityA does not suffice as that will also get invoked if the user navigates to another screen within my app.

I would like to know if an Android application can open a network connection (socket) on a specified network interface [on a device supporting multiple network interface types WiFi, Cellular, WiMax etc] ? I am looking for the capability for an application to open a socket on a given type of network for example over WiFi network or over 3G Cellular Data network.
If this is possible in Android, how would I code this requirement within the API Framework ? The ConnectivityManager enables an application to learn about available network connections and currently categorises them as either TYPE_WIFI or TYPE_MOBILE.
There is a member function in the ConnectivityManager class called requestRouteToHost(int,int) [url] which "Ensure that a network route exists to deliver traffic to the specified host via the specified network interface. An attempt to add a route that already exists is ignored, but treated as successful." Sounds like this would install an IP routing table entry to reach a given host via a specified network interface type (WiFi or Mobile). After calling this would it be sufficient for an application to open a socket and connect to the desired destination address ?
Or perhaps the application needs to bind() a socket to a local address of a network interface of the desired type (WiFi or Mobile) Or by setting a socket-level socket option of SO_DONTROUTE ?
1) Does Google think there will only be one screen size on Android phones? The reason I ask is because I haven't been able to find anything on "variable" layouts in Android? I would like to create a layout with 2 webviews, one 80% of screen height and the other 20%. Is this even possible, or do I need to assign the height of each as a static "px" value?
2) How do I preserve the data in my views when someone switches between landscape and portrait? I doubt it's hard, but I've not been able to find it. Can someone post an example?
Yep. So. It appears that roaming becomes activated from time to time on my phone. For no discernable reason. Anyone else had this issue? Or can anyone suggest a remedy.

I tried taking battery out twice and inserted it thinking that this may solve the problem but unfortunately it didn't help.

View 1 Replies View RelatedI bought a HTC hero (white, in UK) a few days ago - It worked totally fine until today! Now it switches itself on & off continuously! Unless I take battery off! The only way I can rectify the problem is if I take the SIM card out altogether, then it seems to stay switched on without a problem! I have also tried another SIM card just incase I had a fault with my SIM but it does just the same.

View 1 Replies View RelatedThere have been loads of Posts about Android WiFi switching itself off, affecting various devices. The scenario is that the WiFi switches off spontaneously after previously working OK. Try to switch it back on, and it will switch off again after about 10 seconds.
This has happened to me twice now, so I'm trying to find a solution before it happens again which does not involve a Firmware reinstall, with the associated aggro of reinstalling Apps and setting everything up again.
SURELY there must be a method of re-initialising the WiFi via ADB or the Terminal Emulator, or something similar !

I'm trying to customize my home screen. Where can I find the toggle switches for WiFi, Bluetooth and GPS? Are these separate apps I need to download or are they included already? I can't seem to find them.
