I keep the WiFi on my desire disabled when I'm at work. However it keeps on turning on. My guess is that an app turns it on to try to access the net. Is there a way for me to view what is trying to use the WiFi? Or does anyone know what apps do this?

i know this has been asked but so far i haven't found any satisfactory answer or solution. i have been having a battery drain simply because my wifi would just turn on by itself for no apparent reason. There is definitely something causing this but it seems nobody has any good explanation.
View 5 Replies View RelatedDuring a video hangout, the audio randomly switches from "speakerphone" mode to handset mode. The video itself is fine. The other person's audio will get really quiet because it's coming from the handset speaker, and they will complain that they can't hear me anymore.
After this happens, I can manually hit the speaker button and choose the option to use the Speaker rather than Handset mode, and the problem fixes itself. However, the fix usually lasts less than a couple minutes. Within 1-3 minutes it will change back to handset mode. This happens even if the phone is sitting down on the table during the hangout and I'm not interacting with it and there's no chance for me to inadvertently press a button or cover up the proximity sensor.
I'm using an EVO LTE with a stock ROM w/ root if matters.
There have been loads of Posts about Android WiFi switching itself off, affecting various devices. The scenario is that the WiFi switches off spontaneously after previously working OK. Try to switch it back on, and it will switch off again after about 10 seconds.
This has happened to me twice now, so I'm trying to find a solution before it happens again which does not involve a Firmware reinstall, with the associated aggro of reinstalling Apps and setting everything up again.
SURELY there must be a method of re-initialising the WiFi via ADB or the Terminal Emulator, or something similar !
The machine in question is a Dropad A8 tablet, originally running Android 2.3 and now Android 3.0 Honeycomb. Like I said before, this has happened with both Firmwares, now on two (total) occasions.
I'm trying to customize my home screen. Where can I find the toggle switches for WiFi, Bluetooth and GPS? Are these separate apps I need to download or are they included already? I can't seem to find them.

I tried taking battery out twice and inserted it thinking that this may solve the problem but unfortunately it didn't help.

View 1 Replies View RelatedAnyone else having an issue with their WiFi dropping at random times? I'm about 25' from my Verizon router, so signal strength isn't an issue. I don't even know when it's happening most of the time. I only realize because opening a page or downloading something is slow. I have the Sleep Policy set to Never, so it's not that. The strange thing is is I go into Wireless Settings, as soon as I click on Wireless, it picks the router back up and reconnects. I have several other devices on WiFi here and they are all working perfectly fine.

I don't need to do anything fancy with my phone but Wifi tethering sounds like it would be worth taking the plunge. I have been following the bugs and fixes thread about the 2.1 leak and the only think that initially kept me from installing the leak was everyone saying that the phone would randomly go completely silent. Does this also happen with the newest root ROM? Also, just to make sure I know what exactly what WiFi tethering is, will I be able to tether my WiFi if I get rooted and set up WiFi tethering?

I'll be returning the Virgin Desire and just received the o2 Desire today.
Setting it up went well, accounts added etc. but I'm having trouble with the WiFi - I can't disable it, every time I do it switches itself back on - I'm assuming that's something to do with the o2 firmware and it wouldn't be a big deal if the WiFi worked properly
I set it to install all my apps, but wouldn't over Wifi, only over 3G, I can't browse the internet or check for software updates in settings... I've got 2 email accounts set up - Gmail & Exchange (just as I did on the other handset), and it's just told me it can't sync to the Exchange server now though it seems to have been fine so far...
Yet I've just sent myself a test email over WiFi successfully - it appeared straight away in the webmail and then back on the handset, so some part of it's working...
I've got a Jabra Stone, and a Nokia BH-606 which both randomly disconnect whilst I'm on a phonecall or listening to a podcast etc. Sometimes they can go for 30 minutes being perfectly well behaved, or just as often do their stupid disconnecting trick about 5 times in 2 minutes.
Is this a common problem? It would possibly seem not because there doesn't seem to be a huge amount of people with similar issues on the internets.
I know both headsets are ok because they have both worked perfectly with an iPhone and a Nokia N86.
Do we think my Desire is faulty, and I should take it back?
So I just got my HTC Desire today and so far I'm loving it. The main problem I'm having here is that my Internet will stop working after about 30 seconds of me not using it. I'm connected to wifi and have a 3G signal but for some reason it just stops. It seems to stop once I stop using the phone and unlock it and want to go on the Internet. I'm thinking maybe when the phone lock it just automatically loses connection or something. Does anyone know how I can fix this? Oh and it's the Telus version running on Fido.

View 12 Replies View RelatedI got my desire yesterday and when as soon as started to use the phone, it would scroll from the home screen to the left or right. It won't stay on one screen sometimes. Other times it doesn't do this at all. When it is doing, I can go into a menu or something and it will scroll through the different icons. I don't know what the problem is, but it's getting on my last nerve.
View 4 Replies View RelatedWhen i'm connected to my router at home via wifi, the connection randomly drops from time to time. My laptop and TV is fine which are both running via the internet. The setting is set to stay connected always, even when the screen goes black.
Does anyone have a resolution for this? Perhaps static IP? if this is the answer, what should the settings be?
When I try to adjust the volume (ringer/media/navigation) I press the button and sometimes it's okay but mostly nothing will happen for up to 5 seconds and then all of the sudden it'll catch up and shoot right to the end. If I press it repeatedly instead of holding on, it normally takes a few presses before the first adjustment then it'll work pretty much okay but it might do a few moves then stop again randomly. The most annoying time is when I'm on the phone and I can't hear what's being said! I do not want to install a volume control app.
View 3 Replies View RelatedThis is my first post here. Got my Desire recently and i am loving the phone. Like other i was having battery issues but following the advice here i was able to extend the battery life considerably, so im hoping someone here may know something about an issue om having.
Im using the Handscent app for text messaging. However over the last week or so when i go to open a new message, the application freezes and shuts down. When i go to open it again all my messages are deleted. They are also missing in the standard messaging app that came with the phone.
Has this happened to anyone else? If it did did you find a way to stop it happening?
The default setting for this is 15 seconds, and i changed it to be 1 minute. Randomly it sets itself back to 15 seconds (maybe after powering phone off).
View 1 Replies View RelatedI have an unbranded, rooted Desire running 2.2. My screen randomly freezes and cannot be used from several minutes, up to an hour or so. There is no set pattern to when this happens. I have done a hard reset, which has not sorted the problem. I am currently using the phone without the memory card to see if that is the problem, but the screen has already frozen briefly.
All the buttons work properly and any function controlled via buttons works when the screen is non-responsive, so it is not the phone that has fozen just the screen.
I have had the phone for 6 weeks. Is this likely to be some sort of hardware problem or software?
Has anybody else had this problem (couldn,t find anything from a search)?
A touch screen phone where the screen does not respond to touch is a bit frustrating!
I decided to try the WiFi hotspot available through 2.2. GREAT! Actually worked quite a bit better than I thought it would. Only trouble is, ... now I'm back at home, it fails to connect to the home network.
+ Restarting phone
+ Re-entering password
+ Forgetting network + refinding
WiFi sees the network, says "Connecting", comes up "Failed to connect", "Scanning" and loops on that sequence. I know the router's working because this laptop is using it right now
I use a Samsung i5700 (Spica/Galaxy Portal/whatever it's called this week) and ideally I want to be able to toggle 3g off and on (for the sake of battery). Problem is that every solution (Juice Defender, APNDroid etc) work perfectly for maybe an hour, but then 3g stops being able to connect, forcing me to reboot (at which point everything is fine until I toggle 3g off again as above). Having read about this stuff, it seems to be a problem for many people, not just users of this particular phone.

For some reason with swype when i send emails they either wont send or take hours to send. But swype works fine for text and other functions.

View 6 Replies View RelatedI bought a HTC hero (white, in UK) a few days ago - It worked totally fine until today! Now it switches itself on & off continuously! Unless I take battery off! The only way I can rectify the problem is if I take the SIM card out altogether, then it seems to stay switched on without a problem! I have also tried another SIM card just incase I had a fault with my SIM but it does just the same.
