As the title states, are they necessary to have on android phones? Why or why not? I'm leaning towards No but am I right?

Is there such a thing as an EVO stand alone antivirus application? Is it recommended to run your PC's antivirus on the EVO while it's plugged in as an additional hard drive? It'll only see the SD card's content right?

What is the best AV app out currently? Now I know a lot of you guys will say "what is the point". Think outside of the consumer market box. Dell and other companies are targeting Corporate America. You know full and well that upper management will want to see AV on these devices. You also have to think about what you are attaching your device to as well. Docs to go manipulates Excel documents and so on. Even if the defs target Windows based virus activity that is a good start in protecting your PC and email from virus activity. I stumbled on Antivirus Free

I installed the free antivirus on my Samsung Captivate and noticed the message, "this phone belongs to: protected by antivirus". I deleted it and uninstalled it and turned off and on my phone 2-3 times. It is still not going away? What am I doing wrong? Also can someone give me any other method to delete this?

I have seen many posts for this but all old and such and none really evo. So I hear there is really no need for antivirus. Is this true? Cuz I know it eats a ton of my battery. Just seen a lot of mixed reviews on this subject so I thought I'd ask the pros.

Does it count as antivirus? I've been browsing some threads and people say antivirus apps are causing texting to force close and randomly delete all messages. I keep having this problem and was wondering if uninstalling Wave secure would help

I see a few antivirus offerings in the market, but don't hear much talk about the need for them on the android platform. Are they necessary? Do they slow the OS down noticeably?

I've been reading a lot about the task killer and AV apps here, but I am wondering if
1 - are TK apps really nessessary? Does it help with battery life and why would you want to kill an app? I've read somewhere that TK apps are not nesscessary b/c android is a linux system.
2 - Can we get viruses on our phones? Are the Free AV apps we get here in Canada, since we cannot buy apps, good? Do they really protect our phones?

I would like to know if it is possible to launch my application whenever a new entry is written to phone call log (i.e. out-going, in-coming or missed call). I wrote an application to manage the call log entries as per user preferences by listening to the publication of android.intent.action.PHONE_STATE events. My application is working fine as long as its process is running. However if the user has stopped my application with a task-killer application, then the log entries can not be managed as my app itself was not running. I need a way to make sure that my application is launched in the background if it is not already running when the android.intent.action.PHONE_STATE occurs. Or is it possible to launch my application as a service that always runs?

I have a Sony Ericsson X10 Mini Pro - I hate it for several reasons! but I can't ever give it for several reasons!(Most important reason being it's really small + it's an Android phone)Probably the most annoying feature is not being able to put the phone down *instantly* oK, to be fair this a 'fantastic' feature of 95% of Android phones What's wrong with having a phyical button that ends EVERYTHING!Instead, I *have* to WAIT for the damn icon to appear after removing from the side of my head! It takes a LOOONG lifetime for the icon to appear - OK, it probably takes 1/2 - 1 second to appear - tooo long for me! And frustrating! How many hours of my life have I lost waiting for the button to appear so that I can end the call! AND what happens if you accidentally hit something else!! And end up going to another menu! You have to navigate your way back to the call - this take an enternity to do - and especially f u start panicing and want to do it quickly - the evil phone knows! and slooows you down!
1. What am I missing?? Is there a quick way to put the phone down with one of the keys?
2. Else, failing that, is there an application that will let me use one of the physical keys to put the phone down? Not sure how well this would work out - but can't think it would be hard to program?
I've come across one of the *best* applications the world has ever seen for Android! Actually... there's quite a few of these - I can put loudspeaker on by simply turning the phone upside down OR putting it flat face down! (Getting to the loud speaker to work is a pain in the **** for me otherwise!)is there a similar application to end my calls? Am I going mad? Does someone out there understand or appreciate my problems!

I've been a Blackberry guy for 5 years. I made the switch from Storm 2 to the DX. I miss two things from my Blackberry. 1) PHONE ONLY. I would switch my BB to "phone only" at night when I went to bed. So I wasnt awakened for any messages, but did if I received a phone call. I am a State Trooper and I get called out every so often so this worked great. CAN'T FIND ANY APP OR SETTING TO MIMIC THIS FROM MY BB. 2)BB messenger. Wish I still had the "d" or "r" when I sent a message to someone to know if they got it or if they read the message.

Has anyone had an error along the lines of "(application) cannot be installed on this phone.", where the application name is in place of (application). This is on cupcake, I have my version minSdkVersion set to 3, and I've had no problems prior to this new version. Runs fine in the emulator, so I'm stumped?
