Android :: Android Apps Crashing On Different Phone Models

Nov 20, 2010

I recently created a new feature in my apps that allows the user to check if there is an update by getting an HTML page, looking through it, and comparing the versions. However, this is causing the application to force close on startup for many of my users using Samsung and HTC phones, but works just as intended on droid x, incredible, and 2. I can't get my hands on any of the phones that are currently crashing and have no idea where to start in fixing it. I use a AsyncTask to search, and start it using.

Android :: Same Code & Phone Models - Inconsistent Results

Dec 14, 2009

I recently added a feature to my app that allows the user to send a report via a message chooser (all have chosen gmail) that helps mitigate the fact that I don't have all the physical phones to test on. Execution worked as expected on my G1 and the emulator, however, to my horror as users began sending them in most of them were incomplete! Pseudo-code of what I am doing is as follows: On my phone and the emulator, all of the packages are inserted into the email. However, most of the emails I get, even from the same exact phone model/carrier/OS version, only contain "Text1". Users that have automatic signature insertions even have that at the bottom, so it's not that the email is being cut off somehow, it's that size is apparently 0. That is the only thing I can think of. Every once and a while I will get a full email though. This frightens me because what other APIs run fine in my testing but not user phones? What's going on here?

Android :: Apps Crashing On Open File Dialog

Mar 26, 2010

I've been using a droid eris for a couple of months now and have loved the experience so far. Unfortunately, the honeymoon is over and I've been trying to do some productive things with it (outside of playing Robo Defense that is =p).I've been having problems opening different types of documents. My two biggest problems are with Quickoffice and PDF Viewer. When I launch Quickoffice, I get the "Open file" window which takes a few seconds to load and a few files begin to populate in the list. After just a couple of seconds, I get a force close message stating: Sorry! The application Quickoffice (process com.qo.android.htc) has stopped unexpectedly. Please try again" This same thing happens with the PDF Viewer as well. However, I can use a file manager like Linda Manager to browse to a specific file and then open it within the program just fine. I honestly don't know where to start

HTC Droid Eris :: Apps Keep Closing / Crashing

Jan 22, 2010

I have read a number of the posts on this board and tried to condition my new phone for best battery life, etc. and haven't added many apps yet. However a few of them keep crashing ALL the time and it's really annoying. Particularly Google Talk and Gmail, the native apps that I didn't install. I will open them up, press one button (on an email or a name) and then it will just close back to the home screen. It will do this five or six times in a row before it lets me use the app. I have been using task panel but have both apps on the "ignore" list so I don't think that should make a difference, and come to think of it it did that before I installed task panel. The phone is literally three days old.

Motorola Droid :: Apps Crashing - Is This Normal?

Apr 9, 2010

I have an ongoing problem with my Droid that apps will crash if they are not used for a period of time. I've been dealing with it so far by uninstalling and reinstalling the app. This morning Google Voice started crashing and I was unable to make a call, so I uninstalled Google Voice, made the call I needed to make, and then reinstalled Voice. While going through the setup, the app crashes and force closes when attempting to sign in. This is not the only app I have problems with. The Amazon MP3 service force closes at random times, and it seems every app I install eventually has to be reinstalled because it starts force closing after a period of time. I do all the normal troubleshooting like clearing the cache and restarting the phone, and it usually doesn't fix it. Is this normal for this phone or do I have a bad one? It's really becoming an annoyance...

Jelly Bean :: Multiple Apps Crashing Since Last Restart

Nov 30, 2013

today my phone's battery died and when I turned it on lots of apps (not all of them) started crashing. Market apps like papa pear saga (haha), songpop and several more are crashing. Also non market apps are crashing like my file manager which was already pre-installed on my phone. Also, when I checked my app settings, my phone showed that I have 32 TB left! I only have 4 GB in my internal storage. all of my apps are fully updated, my OS is up to date, I tried restarting the phone, nothing worked, I also cleared the cache of all apps. My phone is LG Optimus L9 running Jellybean.

Android :: 3d Models And Open GL

I've managed to get some basic 3d stuff working quite nicely on my Android device. My question is how do you define/create more complicated 3d models? Obivously using int[] arrays of vertices hand written is quite time consuming and error prone. Are there any modelling tools that can be used?

Android :: Predefined Licensing Models

Oct 25, 2010

As I understand, currently there exist two of them, to relieve devs from implementing their own ones, which are -strict -servermanagedpolicy However, I'm missing a predefined policy that actually is the counterpart to the soon deprecated "copy protection mode", ie one that will check once, and then keeps silent for weeks or even months, instead of harassing users to make an online connection. So, I'd like to request to please add a third predefined policy to cater to our laziness. A policy that is the counterpart to the actual old 'copy protection' thingy. Apart from this I don't really see why an app that has been correctly installed by the market with device-based signature checks and all really needs to be checked every 5 days? Wouldn't that only make sense if the app is sort of subscription-based?

Android :: Database And Web Service Models

Aug 20, 2010

I'm watching the 2010 Google I/O video on this topic and I have a few questions to make sure I understand properly. Google I/O 2010 - Android REST client applications Please note I also have a very limited understanding of CursorAdapters Right now my application just has a UI layer. I've created an object called DbAdapter using some Google tutorials to create a small database and a table in that database. I've created a class I'm calling DataBroker (extending ContentProvider) to manage retrieving data from the database and calling web services to update data. Scenarios:

1) Suppose I want to display a list of items in my ListActivity. Am I correct in assuming I will write a function in my DataBroker that creates a Cursor to the table in my database that holds those items, fire up a service which launches a thread which calls a web service to get additional items, then return the Cursor to my UI thread? Doing this would likely return the Cursor to my UI thread before the web service finished, but, I'm assuming, once the CursorAdapter has a Cursor, it will automatically show any changes made to that database table, yes?

2) Now I have a list of items in my ListView. Suppose I give the user some functionality to delete an item. The user executes this functionality. It should call a function in my DataBroker which updates the row in my database corresponding to that item, setting the status column to STATE_DELETING (which will remove the row from the ListView because the Cursor has a clause excluding this state), then fire off a service that fires a thread that hits my web service, then deletes the row in the database when finished? Also, suppose I have multiple Activities, am I looking at having a static Cursor for each Activity with a list, grabbing that Cursor in the Activity's onCreate, and if that Cursor is null, hitting my DataBroker?

Android : What Is Context For / Save Models In Database?

May 17, 2009

I have just started on a new application that will use SQLite for persistance and Im a bit confused over the usage of a context when utilizing the SQLiteOpenHelper.

I have a base class called Storable, which my models extend if they need to be persisted. i had intended to use a synchronized singleton database adapter, but I can't for the life of me understand how to utilize the SQLiteOpenHelper as it requires a context, which my models don't appear to possess.

I'm aware that I can get around this by not using the SQLOpenHelper - but if this restriction is in place, I would assume its to prevent people creating apps "the wrong way" for android.

What is the best practice way for saving models in the database?

I have to take the back off and remove the battery. Then I replace the battery and power on the Android logo comes up but the little robot doesn't. I have to then take the battery out again and redo the power cycle.

Does anyone have ANY idea why this happening?

Has anyone else experienced this, when i try to use my bluetooth headset the phone after a few minutes switches itself off (yes i did try a search!). In addition to that people have been telling me that they can hear my voice breaking up a lot more since switching to this phone.

I'm really surprised that for such a high end device it's pretty naff for basic phone calls. I love it for everything but using it as a phone. My Hero was much clearer and BB Bold clearer still and neither of which had problems with Bluetooth.

Motorola Droid :: Gmail Repeatedly Crashing Phone

Nov 25, 2009

I am on my third exchanged phone for a variety of reasons I have a 41/09 device that is repeatedly crashing whenever I try to compose an email with the native gmail app.I have duplicated it over and over again. There is a lot of debate as to whether these crashing phones are experiencing a hardware or a software problem. This seems like a software problem, and could be related to how the new 2.0 OS deals with memory, etc.I would like to think that an software update would fix it.There is no doubt that Verizon and Google are aware of the high number of phones that crash software.I bought my phone at Walmart, and they are about done with my replacement requests. My store and the next closest store who sells Verizon is out of the Droid.

Well chomp just had an update and it is now force closing everytime i turn my phone on and will not work at all.

I have not tried to uninstall and reinstall because I just got it customized perfectly and there is no guarantee that will work. I will do that if/when someone says it has worked foe them.

That said, has anyone had this problem happen to them after the new update?

Motorola Droid X :: Music Player Freezing/crashing Phone

If I press the hard home key, it will go to the home screen but the music will keep playing even if I press pause. If I am still in the music player app and press the back button, it goes to a black screen and keeps playing. Today I tried to shut down my phone to get it to stop and it kept playing for a couple minutes and took much longer than usual for the phone to shut down.

Do I just have to use a different music player? Is the default one really buggy or something? Not sure if it has anything to do with it but I only noticed it after I updated to 2.2.
