I'm trying to set up Dropbox on my phone in order to automate some actions, but I'm having trouble with one step. Primarily, I'd like for Dropbox to be main download location for files from Dolphin, Steel, and Browser. I can't find an easy way to make this happen, and it would be awesome if I could get it to work out.

I am going to the tiered 150mb plan next month..and I keep seeing in my verizon account my daily downloads are like 12+mb and I don't realize why they are so large..so I want to see if my phone is download/uploading even when idle and I don't realize it.

View 1 Replies View RelatedI am trying to make an application which will upload pictures to a website. I need to let the user browse through the pictures they want to upload and select them. However, when I try to use the MediaStore I always get an empty cursor.
I created an SD CARD image and used that with the emulator. I know one image exists in /sdcard/media. I copied it using an image manipulation tool (winimage). And, I can see the image when I use the command "ls / sdcard/media" in the terminal application of the phone.

Am I missing something here?

I'm researching the development of an Android (2.2) app/service that will enable users to record short (I do emphasize short, < 30seconds) video on their phones and then upload that video (HTTP) to a server that will then transcode the video to other formats. That same user can download videos from other Android users and play them.
Now, I get a bit lost with everyones recommended approaches to all the issues in doing something like this because I haven't seen any ask this in a cohesive context. Ideally I would like a non commercial solution to this (as in no vendor/service being needed for the the video hosting/transcoding), but, feel free to include those as a recommendation (I've marked this as a wiki) as I know many like to use youtube and vimeo for the middle layer in all this.
The questions are
What server technologies do yo recommend for hosting and transcoding? What technology do you recommend for streaming the video (it would be nice to offer a high and low quality encoding depending on the users network connection) What video format and software do you recommend for converting the uploaded video on the server to be viewable later by other Android owners. Im assuming it's bad to do any transcoding on the phone prior to upload (battery/proc issues), but, if I'm wrong with that assumption what do you recommend?
The video will only need to render on an Android device, and in the future in a webkit html5 browser.
Bandwidth isnt cheap (even with numerous 30 second videos), so a good mix of video quality and video file size is important (streaming if needed to ensure quality vs. download). This is for android 2.2 devices with a video camera of course and medium to high density screen of 800x400 min. Open source solutions (server to receive the uploads, code to do the transcoding, server to do the streaming) are preferred, but not required. CDN's are an option, but I don't think that really figures in to the picture right now.
I've emailed the dev for a copy of the APK with no response. I cannot DL it from the store as the store claims it's not compatible with the One X, which is untrue. Probably a custom ROM thing or a language settings permissions issue.

Reminder: not talking about google contacts or anything like that, i'm talking about contacts that are saved on my SIM card.
Is there a way to show data upload, download speed; and total uploaded/downloaded data in MB? since many are not using unlimited, it would be useful to see how much used, if not the over limit charge is quite costly.

the problem is that i can't upload/download anything through all the applications that i install (WhatsApp,Facebook,foursquare...). Everytime that i try to upolad or download an item it always fail.
i noticed that the folders by Default created with those applications are not there from the beginning so i tried to create them manually but it didn't work.
i removed the external sd card so that i can install the applications directly in the internal sd card but no thing changed.
Maybe if i root my phone it will work but it doesn't resolve the situation.
one important thing that i notice is that the application installed with the system (not the new ones) like gmail give me the possibility to upload/download without a problem.
i tried to move the new applications to the folder /system/app in order to be executed the same way as the system applications but no change.
I am trying to download "download crutch" directly to my Droid but keep getting an error. Is this possible or do I have to download it to my computer and then transfer to my phone.

I've noticed that lately, my download speeds on my rooted Droid (running BB 0.5 most recently, though this "problem" occurred with BB 0.4 and LFY 1.6 as well) have not been stellar, though my upload speeds seem fine:
Could this be caused by the baseband? Im running C_01.43.01P. Prior to that, I was running (I think) 3E, which came with the phone, and worked fine with BB 0.4 but when the updated one came out I updated it since, hey, it's newer right? Anyway, (1) is this certainly the problem? and (2) if I choose to, how can I safely roll back to the 3E baseband?
So I have everything set up to automatically use my Google Voice number now, and started getting SMS texts in both my messaging inbox and in GV. I figured out I needed to turn off the SMS forwarding in GV, but it turns out I like using the default messaging app more than the one in GV.
Is there a way to make the GV app stop checking for SMS messages but still download my voicemail? I don't want to make it stop checking all together but I'd like to use the other app for SMS's.
I'm having trouble uploading pictures I've taken on my DX to facebook through the "Quick Upload" option.I got a few uploaded, so I know it works, but now everytime I try, the status bad fills up all the way to "Uploading 100%" then it stalls before giving me the error "Can't send response now.Try again later."I've tried turning Wi-Fi on or off, but on both Wi-Fi and 3G it's not working.Thoughts?

View 20 Replies View RelatedWhen using Protocol Buffers with Android (running in the Windows VM) I'm noticing that the first time I instantiate a protocol buffer based class Android lags for some time. When I step through it looks like it's spending a lot of time dynamically loading the protocol buffer classes. Is there something I can do to speed up this process? I haven't tested yet on a physical device, so the delay might not be as bad but in the VM it takes about 30 - 45 seconds to load all the classes and get past that first message instantiation. What I did was downloaded the Protocol Buffers source code. Compiled the.java files. Stuffed them into a .jar. Added the .jar as an external library to my Eclipse project. Generated the .java classes from the .proto files. Added the generated .java files to my project. Ran my project. I'm not sure if I'm doing something wrong it terms of how to reference external libraries with an Android project, but 30-45 seconds seems like a very long time to wait on a 2.6GHz machine. Also, I recently learned that android uses Protocol Buffers internally. Will this cause any sort of conflicts with my included .jar that could be the problem? I *think* the namespace is different but I'm not entirely sure. Lastly. Why did Google use Protocol Buffers internally and not make it available to SDK developers. This makes me very sad knowing that it's all right there and I can't use it.
