I like dropbox's Camera Upload feature, but quite often I find that it will saturate my internet connection and everything else on my network struggles. Especially if it is uploading video recordings off my phone. Is there a way to place a speed limit to the data upload rate? Kind of like a bandwidth limiter for Android?

I'm looking for an app that will throttle my download and upload speeds. Is there such a thing? I want to do an experiment concerning carrier throttling.

I'm not talking about the 50mb per apk limit but when uploading the next of several 100kb separate apps i got "Upload limit has been reached. Please try again later."
What's the limit and when you can upload again?

I'm using Wi-Fi hotspot to connect my ps3 to mobile network but gameplay is slightly laggy. I've been told this is because of slow/inconsistent upload speeds. So is there an app/mod to make upload speed of my network faster or more consistent?

I need fewer speeding tickets. I've tried voting in local elections but that doesn't seem to help. So I'm left to looking at applications that can help me keep my speed in check.
I really like this application for iPhone, but it doesn't seem to have an Android port. It seems to be exactly what I'm looking for. It has a database of speed limits and notifies you when your phone's GPS reports you have exceeded those limits. The database is user-updated so it should be fairly accurate and current. It also has a really classy GUI.
Is there anything currently in the Android market that can help me? I've tried Trapster, but it doesn't have the functions I'm looking for. It also was pretty annoying as it constantly went off for every potential copper hiding place.

I've been looking for a good application that has a real time speed limit for roads, as I live in a place where they don't exactly like to put up many speed limit signs. Does anyone know of one that is GPS enabled, and tracks the speed limit by your gps location? This may be impossible, but I am just wondering if anyone has stumbled across an application similar to this. Does not need to be fancy, just work.

Family gathering yesterday. I took a 3 minute video on the full settings and tried to upload it to YouTube from the phone and every time I try and upload it, even after reboots, I get a message popping up telling me that the file must be under 1GB. It is only 130MB.

I've emailed the dev for a copy of the APK with no response. I cannot DL it from the store as the store claims it's not compatible with the One X, which is untrue. Probably a custom ROM thing or a language settings permissions issue.

I'm developing an android video uploading app and uploading large amounts of video is a problem, I get different type of exception sometimes (host not resolved, pipe broken), I do a multipart POST but I have a feeling if I upload chunk of bytes one at at time that'll increase upload speed as well as solve connection timeout and these type of problems.

Epic users are all reporting slow speeds on 3G.Our upload speeds seem to be capped at 200KBPS. Can you Galaxy owners check your speeds with speedtest.net app ?
I'm curious if this is just a Sprint issue. Evo on Sprint is much faster ,so its not a network issue.

Is there an app in the market (free) that allows you to view what your current downloads (mbps / kbps) are? even uploads? I am going to the tiered 150mb plan next month..and I keep seeing in my verizon account my daily downloads are like 12+mb and I don't realize why they are so large..so I want to see if my phone is download/uploading even when idle and I don't realize it.

I want to be able to store Java objects from the phone to a webserver. Then, I want to be able to retrieve them later. What could be a good combination of tools/webservers/languages to achieve this?

I'm researching the development of an Android (2.2) app/service that will enable users to record short (I do emphasize short, < 30seconds) video on their phones and then upload that video (HTTP) to a server that will then transcode the video to other formats. That same user can download videos from other Android users and play them.
Now, I get a bit lost with everyones recommended approaches to all the issues in doing something like this because I haven't seen any ask this in a cohesive context. Ideally I would like a non commercial solution to this (as in no vendor/service being needed for the the video hosting/transcoding), but, feel free to include those as a recommendation (I've marked this as a wiki) as I know many like to use youtube and vimeo for the middle layer in all this.
The questions are
What server technologies do yo recommend for hosting and transcoding? What technology do you recommend for streaming the video (it would be nice to offer a high and low quality encoding depending on the users network connection) What video format and software do you recommend for converting the uploaded video on the server to be viewable later by other Android owners. Im assuming it's bad to do any transcoding on the phone prior to upload (battery/proc issues), but, if I'm wrong with that assumption what do you recommend?
The video will only need to render on an Android device, and in the future in a webkit html5 browser.
Bandwidth isnt cheap (even with numerous 30 second videos), so a good mix of video quality and video file size is important (streaming if needed to ensure quality vs. download). This is for android 2.2 devices with a video camera of course and medium to high density screen of 800x400 min. Open source solutions (server to receive the uploads, code to do the transcoding, server to do the streaming) are preferred, but not required. CDN's are an option, but I don't think that really figures in to the picture right now.

My earlier phone saved the sim contacts in a really bad way, long story short - when I search them on my new android phone [htc hero], they are all messed up.. I want to download them to my computer, edit them, and upload them back to the phone, how can I do that?
Reminder: not talking about google contacts or anything like that, i'm talking about contacts that are saved on my SIM card.

I have noticed much better download speeds since updating to the most recent 2.2 leak (same as the OTA) even though i dont have the new radio. i rarely (if ever) got above 1Mbps. now i've been hovering anywhere between 1.8 and 2.0. i'm very happy about this. before, i was around 600-800k. Where is everyone else? I'm curious about how speeds are in different parts of the country, and if you have before/after results.

Walked around downtown Seattle this afternoon testing 4g speeds. The bad news is it averaged a little over 2 mbs download, less than 1 up. The good news is good 3g only produced about .5 down, and about the same up, so 4g tested a lot better. By comparison, by home WiFi gives me >8 down, and about 2.5 up. 4g varied between 1-3 bars. Any suggestions how things might be speeded up? Did not have on GPS, WiFi when testing 4g. There are a lot of tall building where I was walking, but had more consistent results up on the 37th floor of one of the office buildings; still never more than 2.6 download.

Is anyone experiencing slow connection speeds when using the EVO mobile hotspot. From the Evo phone itself, I am getting 2 - 3 Mb/s download speeds. When I connect my laptop or ipad, I am getting max 500 kb/s download speeds on them. The phone continues to get 2 - 3 Mb/s download speeds while hotspot is on. I have tried different wireless security settings but all seem to exhibit the same behavior. Any thoughts on how to rectify this? I am assuming the mobile hotspot should be providing download speeds comparable with the native EVO connection.

Has anyone else downloaded this app. And if so what was your results using Verizon and not wifi.
My scores were:
Download- 15kbs
Upload- 45kbs
My pings average 19 to 36
I don't know if these are good or bad since I'm new to verizon so figured I would ask and compare.
WITH WIFI I GET
DL-500+
UL-100+
JUST FIGURED I'd through that in the mix also.

Is there a way to show data upload, download speed; and total uploaded/downloaded data in MB? since many are not using unlimited, it would be useful to see how much used, if not the over limit charge is quite costly.

This a thread for posting screenshots of how you've customized your phone. How to:
1. You must have root to take a screenshot.
2. Download a screenshot app, I chose screenshot in the market.
3. Upload your screenshot, I chose the imgur uploader from the market.
4. Post your screen with details about what you've done so people don't have to ask.
To upload an image to imgur you must view the screenshot in gallery then share to imgur. Then copy the url. Velocity 0.1.1 928droid theme LauncherPro BattStatt & Retro Clock widgets.

I recently downloaded the speedtest.net app. I want to compare my wifi speeds at home vs. the 3g speeds i get in and around Los Angeles. Obviously I expect my wifi speeds to be higher but what kind of numbers should I be seeing in both cases? What's considered average or acceptable and what is considered great?

Today, I set my Epic to 4G Hotspot activation. Then I setup my Apple Itouch to connect WiFi with my Epic. I ran Speedtest.net app on my Itouch. This is with my Epic connected to 4G.
Apple Ipod Touch 64 gb: (in kbps)
DL UL
255 871
341 899
263 892
225 880
Are these good speeds Hotspot? It seems like Download is kinda slow, although Upload speed seems good. With the same tower and still connected with my Itouch (but Itouch not running any program), my Epic got:
DL UL
5818 1104
This is the typical speeds that i get with 4G connection with my Epic. Is my Hotspot speeds Ok?
