Motorola Droid :: Any Way To Convince Verizon To Upgrade Droid To Droid X Early?
Aug 22, 2010
I have the original droid with 2.1 (still haven't got update) the phone has some problems like, restarting, cant update certain apps, unresponsive. i just got the phone in may 2010 an im starting to think its getting out dated. I once had it rooted to 2.2 but went back to stock for OTA 2.2 . But my question is, that do u think i can call verizon and tell them my problems, say its my 3rd droid and im getting tired of it. Since there not making the oringinal droid anymore do u think they'll let me upgrade to Droid X with little or no fee? i got the idea from another post, reading that someone had success with this trick?
I am available for an annual upgrade on november 9 after. I looked online to make sure i would be able to get the DX on the 15th when it came out. it didn't look like i was able to get a smartphone for the 2 year contract price. so, i called customer service and they said that i am indeed able to upgrade on nov 9 but i'm not eligible for the early upgrade because i am currently a smartphone user.
Anyone else getting emails and now text messages extolling the virtues of Froyo 2.2? Apparently they know that I haven't upgraded to their version of 2.2 and want me to upgrade...sorry not giving up my LFY!
Wanted to know if this was possible. My upgrade date is 7/12 this is but a phone that I want supposedly comes out in 10/12. Can I extend my contract without using the upgrade eligibility just so that my next upgrade comes 6/12 of 2012?
I want to preface all of the following by stating I love the Eris. The only reason I didn't buy an Incredible at full price was because of the nice form factor. I love the hardware buttons for end and send. I"m now on my 4th phone. 1st had a trackball issue, had it replaced at the store the following day. The 2nd had a bad GPS chip (that's what they explained it as). It said I was in Florida, Alaska, and California when I was actually in Dallas. The 3rd had dialer lag issues. (I'm guessing this is common as my roommates has it as well). When placing a call, dialed or from a contact, it will sometimes take 2-5 minutes to actually load the calling app and place the call. I just received my 4th phone Tuesday, activated it yesterday, and today at work it decides to do the same lagging when making a call.I was standing out front of an office trying to get the location of my work order from a coworker. It took about 3.5 minutes to finally attempt to make the call. My new Eris barely has any applications installed as well. (Google Voice and Timeriffic is pretty much it) It happens way to frequently to be a signal issue. It happens at different times and in different places (I work for a school district across 4 cities so I travel between them a lot) I have to make a lot of important phone calls, sometimes time sensitive, and if it takes this much time to place one call then I can't do my job.Anyone have any advice, I'm now wanting to try a different phone. I would love another Eris, but I doubt it will work the way it should. Anyone know the policies about these types of cases?
I'm due for an upgrade. I currently have the env 3. I plan to use the phone for apps and the internet mostly. I don't make many phone calls (less than 20-30 min/day) and don't expect to use it a ton. i would like for it to have a great battery life and probably an actual keyboard (but not a necessity). what would be the best model? is there a model coming out soon i should consider? i saw the droid pro, would this be a good choice (like the keyboard, but it has a smaller screen)
i have a deadspot on my screen in the bottom left hand corner. so anytime i want to hit the Shift button or type "z" or "c" i have turn my phone sideways. then as soon as i start typing that way i have to turn my sideways again to type "m" or hit the NUM button.i signed a 2 year contract with Verizon after they convinced me to buy the Eris instead of the MotoDroid. after this one it will be my 3RD Eris. the earpiece in the first one died within a month and this one is the buggiest, slowest, most horrible batter life ever phone (not to mention a dead spot in the screen). are there any chances they'll upgrade me to a better phone and this p.o.s.? or when you bring it in to get it replaced do they just ship you a new crappy Eris?
So I had 2 versions of Gallery and Music Player when I was running 2.0.1 and downloaded the apk's for the 2.1 Gallery and Music apps. When I upgraded to 2.1 OS I figured the 2.0 apps would be wiped out. It appears that they have until you look deeper. I have only one icon for the stock music app but noticed that when I press the button on my headset it would start and pause music other than what was qeued in the music app.
When I go to 'manage apps' I have 2 music apps listed (both say ver 7). One is 580kb and the other 4kb, giving the impression that the 4kb version is nothing really, but there are definately two versions running at times hence the whole 2 different songs playing at once deal when I press the headset button. I'm reluctant to try deleting anything as I am not sure how I can verify that any of the files floating around right now for the music application are the current version and don't wanna complicate life if I delete something that causes a problem.
For some strange reason I can't seem to set-up my personal e-mail account on this Droid phone. I click on "e-mail", I type in my e-mail address and my password, and then I click "next". And then I get a message that says my username and/or password does not match. But I am positive it does, as I have gone online to test it. I have tried retyping my username and passwrod over and over again without any success. I can't get passed that screen. I have Verizon FiOS at my house, so my e-mail is set-up through Verizon/Yahoo.
I got the Droid about a month ago and love it. I do have a problem though: My house is in the same town as a non-verizon CDMA tower (US Cellular) and very far away from the nearest Verizon tower. With my other Verizon phones (older handsets), they just connect to the close tower and have full signal all the time without any issues. My Droid, on the other hand, will always try to stay connected to the distant Verizon tower - it can be very difficult and frustrating to make calls with the Droid because there is often no signal and the phone is unable to place a call. I don't need the 3G at home, as the Droid can use my wireless for browsing, etc. How can I get the Droid to stop trying to connect to the distant Verizon tower and connect to the nearby partner tower instead (so that I have high-quality phone signal at home)? I have called Verizon and Motorola and nothing seems to help.
I am on my second defective Droid. My newest one has rebooted more than 10 times in less then 24 hours. I am going to take it back for a replacement again, however I am wondering if Bestbuy got a bad batch and maybe I should get a replacement from the Verizon store. Does anyone know if Verizon will replace it even though I got it at Bestbuy?
I'm looking to pick up a Droid (with no contract... my wallet says ouch) but its okay because I can partially offset the costs by selling my current phone) . My family made the rushed decision to switch to Verizon in October and I ended up getting the Samsung Rogue. I currently have the family plan + a basic texting plan (200 or 300 messages a month, I forgot which one lol) + 25MB Basic Data. Would I be able to activate the Droid via the Verizon website or by phone without having to add anything extra. I know they will probably ask me to get the unlimited data, but I was wondering if there is anyway around this? I really like my rogue, but it doesn't compare to Droid. The rogue has no wifi , and its GPS is completely limited due to VZW Navigator, Not to mention the Android OS + Apps + 5MP Camera
I currently have a rooted Droid 1 and it runs just fine at 1.2 ghz with Bugless Beast. However, I am starting to get anxious for a new phone and my upgrade will be ready in early December.I have been doing a little research and have not found anything that seems to be miles ahead of the droid x in the near future. I want the best phone on the market and as of right now I feel that is the droid x (sorry iphone). Would you guys say it is worth it to use my upgrade now and get the X or does anyone have an estimate as to when the next big thing will be coming? (I prefer a droid phone however the rumors of samsung's 2 ghz phone seem promising).
I've been getting tired of my droid lately. I also have doubt that we're gunna get the gingerbread update. So i was wondering how you guys are dealing wit it? and i was also wondering if i should root? Also, is there any possible way i could get a new verizon droid device, despite the fact that im not eligible for an upgrade?
Perhaps I will regret posting this in that the answer is obvious, and I am not very bright, but I'd like to get some help upgrading from Droid 2 from Droid. Both are Verizon phones.I understand that my personal data will move as it is tied to my gmail account that runs my phone. So moving that is easy. But what about all my apps, my pictures, the messages I kept in my visual voicemail application? When I asked Verizon, the rep said I should just use the SD card from the Droid in the Droid 2. Is it really that simple? If moving the SD card is the solution, what do you do if you want to upgrade to a larger SD card?
So I decided to get a Droid X on Verizon and of course the smiley guy that sold it to me knew absolutely nothing about the deeper workings of Android and just showed me the very surface stuff. So now I have tried to mess around with it and know I need to do some of this "root" stuff but a few friends have put the fear of gawd in me about bricking my phone so I am not sure how aggressive I can be with this.Basically I want to do stuff like get rid of the bloatware on the phone like the Amazon MP3 and make it so the Kindle app doesn't load all the time etc. What would the first step be to take to be able to tweak the phone that wouldn't at the same time risk bricking my new toy.If you have any links or threads you can refer me to please feel free to pass them on as well.
What a roller coaster this has been. Wanted the Incredible to be my first "Smartphone"..ordered one from Verizon..got the delivery date pushed farther back until I just cancelled it and decided to go with the Droid X.My fiance just had her 5th LG Dare shit the bed and she is due for an upgrade so she called Verizion to get a replacement Dare until Thursday and then get the Droid X. They shipped out a replacement today and said she can upgrade this week to the X. She asked ther CSR if she should get the Incredible or the Droid X and he said that he was originally going to get the Incredible but is now getting an "X" for himself because word around Verizon is that the new Droid is totally unlike anything they have put out before and the upcoming OS upgades will make this phone unbelievable. For all the nonsense with the Inredible and the spotty CSR info coming out about release date and such.it was cool to hear an insider talk about how awesome this phone is...I am now officially DOUBLE stoked to get this device. Now if someone could tell me how to get the unlimited data plan for $29.95 through the Verizon website (I have a cruddy LG Chocolate now that has no data plan)..I would be most grateful...all they have is 2GB plans for $39.95, I don't see the unlimited data plan anywhere. I don't want to order the Droid X without the data plan in place.
Why does my phone display birthdays a month ahead. Its cool you can enter someones B day into the phone, but being a month off it doesn't really help me. Is there a way to change it so it notifies you on the persons actual B day?
My Droid 1 failed within it's one year warranty. Went through quite a hassle with Verizon trying to get it replaced. They kept telling me a new one would be here by "Tuesday", no phone, call again, should be here by "Friday", no phone...OK, now i'm frustrated. Finally on Monday, a box from Verizon, and surprise, it's a new Droid 2 YAY. Now on Tuesday, another delivery with a box from Verizon, with yes...another Droid 2. That was almost 3 months ago. The second Droid 2 has just sat on my desk, no charges from Verizon, no phone call or anything asking for it back.Today, my son drops the in use Droid 2 phone and it shattered and it's not working. So, I say to myself, no problem I have a brand new one on my desk. My concern is that if I activate it, it will trigger some thing with Verizon and I will then be charged $500 bucks for the phone. What do you all think? Have I actually got a free 2nd phone, or is it just a pretty paper weight.
I'm rooted now but want to go back to STOCK OEM. I have only found a way to get back to OEM but with a SHOLES ROM, I have not found anything to go back to a stock verizon "rom".Anyone have any links as to where I can find info in doing this?
So I switched to verizon from ATT for (go figure) their network. yet the signal strength in my house seems pretty shoddy. outside my house is pretty good. must be something with the walls. has anybody bought/used the network extender and had positive results?
Rooting and Titanium backup so wanted to throw that out to you all.
Anyway, I was messing with freezing stuff in Titanium backup, and I wanted to freeze the VZW Backup Assistant. It worked, but in the process when I rebooted the phone, all of my contacts were gone.
Now in Titanium, there are two versions appearing. 1.0 and 2.2. (I froze both). When I defrosted them and rebooted the phone, the backup app came back. When I tried to sync (thinking it will pull whatever I had in my Verizon account, it did not). I guess it just syncs what you have on the phone vs. pulling down when you have online.
Anyway, just logged into my VZW account and all my contacts are indeed gone.
Now, is there something hidden somewhere in the phone where I can get them back? A file or something?
If not then...
I have my Droid Incredible (not activated at the moment) with all of my contacts. Is there a file or way to export that data from my Incredible and import it back into my X?
If you need any more questions answered please let me know. Worst case scenario is I have to manually add them all back. I chalk it up as a learning experience.
The Verizon Flash Update keeps trying to install on my Bugless Beast .4 phone. When I click "install" it reboots the phone, and tries to install but fails on the install and goes straight to Clockwork Recovery Mode. Then a couple days later it tells me to install the update again.
Does anybody know of a way to disable the update notification or successfully install the update so that it will stop bothering me?
