Been with VZW for several years and can't remember paying an activation fee ever.let alone for an upgrade that's purchased online that I activate myself. Does anyone know if we'll actually be paying the $35 activation fee for current customers (NE2 eligible) w/2 year contract?

I've been in the telecom business too long to see a disaster in the making. It's going to take more time for the phones to port numbers and ship than that window would allow.

View 15 Replies View RelatedI purchased MyBackup Pro and tried to transfer my contacts, apps, etc from one HTC incredible to another. I activated the new phone, instealled MyBackupPro on it, and restored. Only problem is, my contacts came through corrupted, so didn't transfer.Now I need to go back to my old phone and get the contacts off of it using MYBackup Pro. But the phone won't let me past the activation screen. I don't want to reactivate it, I just want to use the app to download the contact information to the SD card.Why is it requiring activation to transfer information? How do I fix?

Then turned it on and it went right to the home screen......on my eris when I got it new I had a screen that came up right away about must activate to go further. View 17 Replies View RelatedI honestly thought that activation was a skippable step, but apparently it's not. So, does anyone know how to do this on a Droid Incredible with the latest OTA? Anyone got a contact at Verizon they could ask? I just want to use it for wifi and games.
Ok, so why would I want/need to do this? Simple, I'm deployed to Iraq and my cell phone service is on a military suspense. I did a reset after the last update, and now cannot use the device until it's activated, or I find a way to bypass the activation.
What I've tried so far (thanks to Google):
-tried tapping the 4 corners, starting top left, going clockwise. Doesn't apply to this phone, but was still worth a shot.
-"end call" on activation 4-5 times
-reboot 3-4 times
I'm on my parents family plan. Because I won't be able to take my parents to the store on Thursday morning (b/c of work) I am thinking of pre-ordering it. Will I be able to take it to the store for activation/transfer my numbers and everything without the "primary phone owner" or whatever Verizon calls the main number on the family plan? Whenever I try to call them or go online I'm unable to do anything because I'm not the head honcho.

1. This site strongly recommends that you charge your battery before activating it.
2. Other sources have noted that you should start it up and use it until it is mostly drained before charging it.
Does anybody have any scientific evidence to support one theory over the other? What are the consequences of letting it drain before charging if you side with #1?
I'm a soldier stationed in Afghanistan and I received an INC in the mail today that I ordered a week ago. Charged the battery, powered it on and discovered that it requires service activation in order to use it. I ordered it to use the WI FI capability here until I reactivate my Verizon service when I get home this fall.
I have read several threads in different forums discussing procedures to bypass the activation screen and I've tried them all. Tapping the corners in a clockwise motion or canceling the (*228) activation call and rebooting 3 times. I even contacted Verison and HTC technical support and they couldn't figure it out either. They think it's because I have no cell phone service here so cancelling the activation call method doesn't work.
Does anyone know how to bypass the activation screen from the ##778 command on the emergency dialer. I have read where it's possible to bypass using the A-KEY command.
I'm trying to show up for new service with Verizon and get the Incredible.But I cannot figure out if activation is free. I've had 3 online chats and have received different answers each time. In my last chat, they told me every possible answer, yes, no, depends, doesn't depend, what the website says, not what the website says.I tried to order earlier today, and I thought on the checkout screen it said free activation.Not sure whats changed. Now when I try it lists a $35 activation fee. But on the left of the screen is a box that says free activation, Friday-Monday, will be credited on 1st or 2nd bill.Things I changed was logging in through my university website (discount), and trying a 1yr commitment.I've been told several times that the free activation is only on a 2yr commitment. But I don't see it say that anywhere online.This whole process is not inspiring confidence in Verizon. I cannot get an answer to a simple question about the supposed free activation. They make the rules overly complex and keep changing them. They reps are clueless. Reminds me too much of Sprint.

She wants to transfer the upgrade from her dad's line (they're on a family plan) to her number, but whenever we try to do that on the Verizon website it doesn't stick.Is there a way to permanently transfer the upgrade to her number? Otherwise, could I order the Incredible under her dad's number, and then activate it with her number once we get it? I've heard mixed answers as to whether or not Wirefly/Sears Wireless will charge an ETF for this action.
View 9 Replies View RelatedI got fed up with my music player constantly skipping/phone lag on my Eris and got a VZW manager to approve a early upgrade for me. I was thinking should I go with the Droid Incredible? I wanted some current owner's opinions before I drop $200 on it.
Currently I mainly use my phone for:
1. Texting- I send at least 80 texts a day.
2. Web Surfing- I spend a lot of time on-line google, news..etc
3. Picture taking- I love to snap photos of friends and travels.
4. Talking- I maybe use 500 min a month if that. I text a lot due to working in a call center.
5. Mp3 player- i use my phone in the car and at work prob 45 hours a week
Considering these points do you think it would be wise to choose the Incredible or do you think my issues with the Eris could haunt me again on the Sense UI altogether? Any input is welcomed and appreciated guys.
I am on a Verizon family plan. My line is not due for an upgrade for a long time, but another line on the family plan is (just a standard flip phone). my question is: Can I use the other (flip phone) upgrade to get my self a new incredible WHILE leaving the flip phone a standard, non data line? When i go to purchase online using the upgrade, it makes me choose a data plan.

View 4 Replies View RelatedI got my "dinc" in early August with 2.1 onboard and recieved the OTA froyo upgrade about two weeks ago. I like 2.2 (I think) but not all the battery-vampire crap-apps that came with it. I desparately want to root so that I can explore the full potential of this phone and hopefully find some options to extend my battery and get rid of the bloatware.
Unrevoked's website says v3.2 has been temporarily pulled and to use v2.2 "in the meantime". I've tried several of the methods that call for 3.2 using 2.2 and it seems to work up to the reboot step towards the end. Each time I get this "failed to flash recovery image" message. I've followed every detail of several videos and posts (including one from this forum) instructing how to root with Unrevoked, but the end result is always the same.
1. Can I use Unrevoked to root my phone with the froyo upgrade in place?
2. If so, how? Because what I've been trying ain't gettin' it done.
3. If not, is there a way to roll-back to 2.1 so that I can use Unrevoked?
4. Could the 2.2 version of Unrevoked be casuing my "failed flash" issue?
I'm having some issues with the Gmail after upgrading my DINC to Froyo using the Leaked RUU. On 2.1, the second I got an email, it showed up in my Gmail inbox (no notification, but that wasn't a big deal, i just manually checked it) anyway, now its not doing that, and I have to manually refresh Gmail, which is annoying. Anyone else having this issue? Anyone know how to get around it?

But now it has me thinking again. Is it really a good time to upgrade? I feel like the Incredible is starting to phase out a little (Or thats the feeling I get from some people) and I wonder if maybe I should just wait for the next HTC phone, or if this is the perfect time to upgrade.Im still unsure if I can do a 1 year plan(I need to talk to a VZN rep) instead of a 2 year plan, but if I can I would be a little more comfortable upgrading from my dinky LG Dare right now. Again, do you personally think it is a good time to upgrade to my first smartphone or simply waiting a little while for something else to come along?PS. I didn't root the phone or apply any other update except for that one. Obviously I need to downgrade what I did to the stock. I downloaded SDK and will attempt to follow this:
