HTC Incredible :: Charging Before Activation Or Using Until Fully Drained
Apr 28, 2010
I'm getting a lot of conflicting opinions. Matchup:
1. This site strongly recommends that you charge your battery before activating it.
2. Other sources have noted that you should start it up and use it until it is mostly drained before charging it.
Does anybody have any scientific evidence to support one theory over the other? What are the consequences of letting it drain before charging if you side with #1?

I put the charger in the port and didn't realize that it wasn't charging until after I completely drained the battery. And yes, I plugged it in and checked the outlet. I got it at Best Buy. Is that where I should return it or can I do it at the Verizon store?

I was just about to try taking the battery out, when it changed from a blinking amber to a solid amber. I hope it's charging now!
I hadn't been able to charge my EVO for a little while, and just a little while ago it finally gave up the ghost. I booted back up to recovery after it shut down, where it told me I needed to change the battery.
Well, that's great! Except, it wouldn't let me shut the phone off! It sat there for a few minutes, not responding to my trying to turn the phone off, until, it seems, it completely ran out of power. I have the seidio 3500mah battery, and the cover is a royal pain to remove (usually requiring a butter knife to pry the sucker out of it's death grip!).
Now when I got back to my desk at work, I plugged it in to USB, and the charging light is just blinking amber at me, and it won't turn on yet. Does this sound like it's not charging, or just needs to charge itself up a bit before it will let me turn it back on?

I rooted my phone back before 2.2 came out. I've played with CWM, made Nandroid and Titanium backups, removed bloat and installed most of the root only apps. What I haven't done yet is flash a ROM. This is mainly because it seems that while there are a crap ton of ROMs being developed out there all of them seem to either not be fully stable or are missing some sort of key feature (camera, videocam, bluetooth, LED, internal storage, etc).
Are there any ROMs that you folks are currently using that's stable and has all the features of the phone working? If not, what's the closest one that you've found?

My Droid wall charger stopped fully working this morning, and Im not sure why. It may be either that the charger is broken or the port is. When I charged the phone this afternoon on my car charger, it worked fine, but I did notice once that the input piece for the car charger is slightly wider than the wall charger, and the wall charger has seemed to fit loosely in. I cant tell if anything is actually wrong with the silver input piece on the wall charger. Should I buy a new wall charger or take the phone to Verizon to get the the port possibly fixed if that is the issue? Can they even fix the port?

My specific device is a GSM Galaxy Nexus.
So, I have 3 batteries for my phone. 1 stock (1750mAh) and 2 extended (2000mAh). No I don't need all that juice... its a story for another time. Anyway....
Lately when I charge a battery in the external charger (using a USB cable and the wall plug supplied with the phone) the battery will not fully charge. The LED on the charger will change from red to green (Usually I charge the battery overnight, or while I'm away at work during the day). However when I put the battery in the phone, it will show somewhere between 80%-90% charged.
1) Would a 100% drain and charge reset the battery's "fuel gauge"?
2) My phone automatically powers off at 6% (which is fine, needs enough juice to save current settings and power down properly). Is there a way to truely drain the battery down to 0%? (I'm thinking of some kind of low-voltage lightbulb or LED connected to the positive and negative terminals should drain that down to 0%. Is this recommeneded or is it fine just running it down till the phone powers off?
Normally I try to plug my phone in and charge (or power off and swap batteries) once they hit about 40%-60%. I'm only interested in doing a full drain to see if that will get these batteries to fully charge in the desktop charger. Besides I've read from a few sources that it is GOOD for the battery to do this once in a while (Fully drain, charge to100%) to properly maintain them.
And as a side note, charging the battery in the phone (either with the wall plug or from USB cable on my computer) will always result in a 100% charge, which makes me thing the issue is with the desktop unit itself (perhaps faulty circuit that cuts off charge current when it thinks its full ?)

I've had my HTC Desire for about 2 weeks. I have searched through the forums for info...but between threads getting off track or just not understanding anything, I thought it would be easier to ask basic questions about my particular issues.
1) What is root? I have the 2.2 update, I am happy enough with HTC and my carrier (Telus) and I don't need tonnes of room right now.
2) Speaking of room, I try to put my apps on my SD card with the 2.2 update but only Google Earth and Night Sky are able to do it. All of my icon packs etc. wont go to SD. I'm pretty sure I have lots of room left so I dont think this is a huge issue.
3) Battery issues. I didn't do the first full charge as I had to use the phone asap when I bought it. I don't have much going on with my phone, no active wallpapers, just weather toggle and clock, text and a few phone calls, check a couple websites, maybe a video here and there, and sometime use GPS for maps. I keep my screen on zero percent and I soft touch the power button to go black screen when i'm idle. I turn off gps and wifi when not using them. With that said, I cant keep the phone idle and off charge overnight without it going to zero. After a charge I lose 10-20% in the first hour. I have never lasted a day on a full charge.
4) After playing around with customizing my phone with icons and widgets I am done. All I need this phone to do is make phones calls, text and check my favorite websites. I use my tracks when I go running and listen to music when I run. Thats all I want it to do. Its a phone so I would love if it could keep a charge in case of an emergency. I was late for dinner the other night because my battery died and I couldn't even call to say I was late! so....
5) What do you recommend I do with my phone to keep it as basic as possible and powered up?
6) What are the key apps to make this the best user experience?
7) When in my pocket I lock screen but once I found that I had 23 unsuccessful attempts to open screen from jiggling around in my pocket lol. Is there anything to help me with that?

Put my phone in my locker two hours before I went on break at work, came back and it was hot to the touch, almost too hot to hold, and was giving me warnings of it turning off. It turned itself off before I could see what was going on. Got it home, threw it on the charger, was completely drained.
I put it in my locker without anything on, had just sent a text message, went to home screen, and locked it. Set it down and that was it. I had just charged it 3 or so hours before and it was on 100%.
What killed my battery life? I checked my battery usage in settings and it was 97% Android OS and 3% something else, forget which and its off to charge up.

I purchased MyBackup Pro and tried to transfer my contacts, apps, etc from one HTC incredible to another. I activated the new phone, instealled MyBackupPro on it, and restored. Only problem is, my contacts came through corrupted, so didn't transfer. Now I need to go back to my old phone and get the contacts off of it using MYBackup Pro. But the phone won't let me past the activation screen. I don't want to reactivate it, I just want to use the app to download the contact information to the SD card. Why is it requiring activation to transfer information? How do I fix?

I honestly thought that activation was a skippable step, but apparently it's not. So, does anyone know how to do this on a Droid Incredible with the latest OTA? Anyone got a contact at Verizon they could ask? I just want to use it for wifi and games.
Ok, so why would I want/need to do this? Simple, I'm deployed to Iraq and my cell phone service is on a military suspense. I did a reset after the last update, and now cannot use the device until it's activated, or I find a way to bypass the activation.
What I've tried so far (thanks to Google):
-tried tapping the 4 corners, starting top left, going clockwise. Doesn't apply to this phone, but was still worth a shot.
-"end call" on activation 4-5 times
-reboot 3-4 times

I'm on my parents family plan. Because I won't be able to take my parents to the store on Thursday morning (b/c of work) I am thinking of pre-ordering it. Will I be able to take it to the store for activation/transfer my numbers and everything without the "primary phone owner" or whatever Verizon calls the main number on the family plan? Whenever I try to call them or go online I'm unable to do anything because I'm not the head honcho.

Been with VZW for several years and can't remember paying an activation fee ever.let alone for an upgrade that's purchased online that I activate myself. Does anyone know if we'll actually be paying the $35 activation fee for current customers (NE2 eligible) w/2 year contract?

I'm a soldier stationed in Afghanistan and I received an INC in the mail today that I ordered a week ago. Charged the battery, powered it on and discovered that it requires service activation in order to use it. I ordered it to use the WI FI capability here until I reactivate my Verizon service when I get home this fall.
I have read several threads in different forums discussing procedures to bypass the activation screen and I've tried them all. Tapping the corners in a clockwise motion or canceling the (*228) activation call and rebooting 3 times. I even contacted Verison and HTC technical support and they couldn't figure it out either. They think it's because I have no cell phone service here so cancelling the activation call method doesn't work.
Does anyone know how to bypass the activation screen from the ##778 command on the emergency dialer. I have read where it's possible to bypass using the A-KEY command.

I'm trying to show up for new service with Verizon and get the Incredible. But I cannot figure out if activation is free. I've had 3 online chats and have received different answers each time. In my last chat, they told me every possible answer, yes, no, depends, doesn't depend, what the website says, not what the website says.I tried to order earlier today, and I thought on the checkout screen it said free activation. Not sure whats changed. Now when I try it lists a $35 activation fee. But on the left of the screen is a box that says free activation, Friday-Monday, will be credited on 1st or 2nd bill.Things I changed was logging in through my university website (discount), and trying a 1yr commitment.I've been told several times that the free activation is only on a 2yr commitment. But I don't see it say that anywhere online. This whole process is not inspiring confidence in Verizon. I cannot get an answer to a simple question about the supposed free activation. They make the rules overly complex and keep changing them. They reps are clueless. Reminds me too much of Sprint.

I was going through the process this morning of pre-ordering my Inc.I am switching from T-Mobile so I am signing up for a new 2-year plan.On the checkout page it is showing a one-time activation fee of $35.Am I wrong, but I swear there used to be free-activation Monday-Friday online.I can't find that promo on their web site anymore.Did anyone else have to pay this fee?Perhaps they are suspending the promo during the Incredible launch?

I've noticed that when charging my phone overnight, the light will turn green like it is fully charged, but if I unplug it, and plug it back in the light is red again and can take 10-20 minutes to turn green again. It seems the phone doesn't agree with what it considers for the battery to be fully charged. Anyone else have this issue? Is it a software thing?

I'm thinking about flashing a Vanilla 2.2 ROM on my Incredible but I'm a bit nervous. It seems most ROMs will end up messing something up from Bluetooth to 3G speeds. My question is simple: is there a 2.2 Vanilla ROM that 100% works and has the latest radio etc.?

It seems after the device has been running for a day or two, the Internet browser will cease to fully load web pages. The load bar will get to some point and stop and the page never fully loads. No other web based apps are affected. At first I would restart the device and that, of course, would fix it. Lately I ended up just force stopping the browser and that fixed it as well.

I called HTC and told them my battery will not fully charge unless I plug & unplug my phone several times. They said there wasn't a hot ticket about this issue and offered me a replacement battery. I suggest everyone call them and let them know this is problem. 8664498358 I refused the battery as I do not believe it is the issue. I told the rep that I just wanted to make the issue known. I suggested everyone call to let them know there are several people with this problem, not so you can try to get a free battery. I also called Verizon to order a spare battery, then I ordered a separate battery charger from fommy.com to deal with this issue until it is fixed. Shame on you to those who thought they could "steal" a battery from HTC.

Went into the mall where I work this morning, there's a verizon kiosk right outside my store. Pick up an Incredible. Start driving home while playing with it. At a red light I notice a bright green pixel over an orange area of my wallpaper. Indeed it was there throughout any application I used. When I loaded up the browser and went to "about:blank" (which loads a fully white screen) I was able to see it there also.
Bummer. I live 14 miles from where I work, and where I picked up this Incredible. So I head over to another Verizon store closer to where I live. I show the agent, and he agrees and we swap it. Next phone... dust under the screen, 3 particles, right out of the box!
Once more another replacement. This time a red bright pixel around the same area (lower left quadrant of the screen) as the first phone! 4th phone into it, finally no issues.
Has anyone else gotten dead/ bright pixels in their AMOLED displays? Open your browser and enter this address in. about:blank, just like that. look hard, tell me what ya find. Took me four phones to get a good one. Hope everyone else here doesn't have to go through the same.

My battery drained all the way until the "red" and a popup came up that said "Battery is less than 5 percent. Connect to charger" So I connect to charger. An hour or so later, the battery icon is "full" and green, I disconnect my charger and it immediately shoots down to red with the popup appearing again. I have tried charging it on numerous Motorola chargers, even overnight and it still happens? Anyone have this issue?

Any ideas why "Android OS" is taking up so much battery life? For the past three days my battery life has been much worse and when I look in the battery usuage its always showing "Android OS" to be the highest with a percent of something like 60%.It used to be the case that "Display" and "WiFi" were the main cause of drain but now they are hovering at just 10%.When I tap on Android OS it doesnt give me any extra details. Also when I browse through the "partial wake lock" usage on the battery left up it lists "Android System" with a 1/4 bar and all the other processes have no blue bar.Any ideas what part of Android OS is taking up the battery life? How would I be able to find out whats happening inside the "Android OS" process?

I was listening to music as I always do. I didn't realize it but the phone (Rezound) drained a bit faster than expected and died completely. So I went to to charge it, and left it overnight, off naturally, now when I power it on, its stuck on a boot loop.
It goes throught the startup animation, and once it gets to Sense, in the few seconds before the radios kick in and it finds the cell service, it reboots and starts all over again. Only way to get it to stop is pulling the battery out.
I started to do the hard reset, but when I got to the window for it, all I saw was Factory Reset (I guess they are the same) so I selected the option for reboot.
The light to charge does show its charging, and at one point, when I had it plugged in this morning, and managed to swipe the ring to get to my swipe lock screen, it was saying I was at 99%. then it goes all slow and then rebooted.
I used the factory wall charger, and its drained I think once or twice before, and I have done the FoxKat method of calibrating before this. Not sure if its a battery thing, since it will power up, or not.
I'm stock, non rooted, on GB.
I don't really want to do a factory reset as I'd like to have my messages saved. I did save them last week when I saw ICS was available, but i have some new since. I'm pretty sure my pictures and videos will be saved during the reset. I don't think that folder gets wiped. However I was going to try going to a VZW store to see about a new battery. The phone is new since June.
