Android :: Need To Write Code That Is Activating GPS On Phone?
Aug 26, 2009
I have written an android app that needs the GPS capabilities of the phone. If GPS is activated everything works fine, but if it is not i get an error. So my question: Is it possible to write code that is activating GPS on the phone? I found a forum post that it is not possible because of security reasons. Is this true?

Is it possible to write the code/compile Android application on one machine and debug it remotely on the emulator launched on another? I'm sick and tired of the emulator constantly eating half of my laptop's processor.

We all know that Android runs Dalvik VM programs. Normally developers write programs in Java and they compile it to Dalvik bytecode. I wonder if it would be possible to create a compiler that can take C# code and compile it into Dalvik bytecode.

When I go to activate it online it goes through everything fine but stops on "activating phone" and a red box comesup saying they need to assist me with activation to please call from another phone or click the chat link. Well the chat is down and I don't have any other phones besides the phone I want to deactivate for the evo. Could I take it to the sprint store to get it done or will they give me flack for buying one off ebay to use?

I am about to go to Verizon and hook up a new line and give it to a friend. I of course am going to get the new phone and I am going to give her my current Brand new Galaxy S3, which is only like 2 weeks old (2 weeks and 1 day to be exact). and I am just gonna hook myself up on the new line and give her mine. My question is, can you hook up phones that are rooted/Rom'd. I believe you can, cause I hooked up my buddies phone temporarily a week or so ago, and it was a LG Revo with the Gingervolt ROM on it. and they gave me a new SIM card, hooked it up and i was ready to go. So I don't think their should be an issue.
and yes I know this has been discussed over and over, but Galaxy Note 3 or LG G2 ? They are both amazing. But I want the one that has the best Dev work on it. and I do like the size of the Note 3. But I heard the LG G2 has a bit of a better camera, but I am not a huge photo taker, mostly just at parties, and when I am playing shows with my band I will have my GF take pics with my S3, and they turn out perfect. so I don't think that's a deal breaker for me.

I have root using unrEVOked3, running CM6, stock kernel, then did unrEVOked Forever and the radio update (2.15) I noticed that my 3G is getting me like 200kbps, horrible, right? I thought maybe *228 would fix the problem. I noticed that the speedtest app was saying a server in Tacoma was the closest to me (2.8 mi) when really, I'm just south of Portland. When I try to do *228, I get a phone activation screen with no keypad on it. It says "Please wait while you phone is being programmed." and wants me to push 1 or 2, but since there is no keypad, this becomes impossible. If I back out to my app drawer and select Phone again, it brings up 3 options. One of them is to see the keypad. When I hit that, it just takes me back to the activation screen. I can't find a way to push a button. Long pressed menu, got keyboard.

I've had my X10i for a month now and have added several apps from the Marketplace. I am Orange in the UK and have also had the new shared settings for using the phone on the T-Mobile Network. Earlier I received some text messages and a missed call but was unable to drag the status bar down to check who they were from. I switched off phone and re-started but have found that the "Activating Phone" icon kicks in before I can complete my Sim lock number and press ok. The phone just wants to stay in the "Activating Phone" mode but doesn't start up properly. If I enter the pin correctly and press ok Very quickly I can start the phone ok.

I am developing a program that needs async socket. I am new to Android and Java. As I can see in the document, to write network program, I got Socket and SocketChannel, but it seems they are all sync socket, it means, I need an extra thread to call blocking read, write... and etc. Here comes the problem, my program is a chat room, the communicate is not linear, I have no idea when the server will send a message to me, if I read in that thread to wait message from server, but the user want to send message to server, the reading function blocked forever, if there is no incoming data, then the pending outgoing message will not be sent. That's why I need async socket. So my question is: How to write async socket under Android environment?

I am very new to android. The Eclipse and the Emulator is running and I have bought an device already. I want to write a little UPnP- Discover-Application first. I used CyberLinkForJava under Java some years ago. I read on this list (2010/1/29) that this framework can be used under android too. Like mentioned in the post from skonno I downloaded the code via svn from sourceforge and copied the trunk/cyberlink/upnp-stack/src/main/ java section into the source folder of my android project. Then I`d got errors in XercesParse.java and kXML2Parser.java. If I delete this classes it runs without errors. But the code from the cyberlink documentation. Code...

I want to figure out how to detect when the phone wakes up from being in the black screen mode and write a handler for that event. Is that possible? It seems like this would be something a Broadcast Receiver should handle? Or is there a better or more proper way?
