Android :: How To Write Code That Can Be Easily Ported To Iphone
Sep 10, 2010
I'm looking for a way to easily port content driven applications from one mobile platform to another. Currently HTML5+js seems to be the only language that can be easily reused. Can you share your experience? I'm looking for a way to go forward.

Any app which let me easily write in it (with keyboard) or draw (with stylus or finger)? I am looking for app more like kingsoft office or polaris than any drawing apps like skitch or sketchbook.
Only working apps i found are skitch and supernote, but in skitch i need to click icon everytime i want to wrote or draw sth and in supernote after making picture, it is fitted to the line.
For me the best would be app where i could draw table and than write inside it. Or sth close to it
TF300t - stock JellyBean (docked/nonrooted)

There is a really good sticky application out there for the ipod touch called "Stick it". Basically you enter the application and make stickies on a board then save it. It then gets imported as a jpg then you add the jpg to your lockscreen.I was wondering if there is anything like this on the market? I dont wanna go through over 20 sticky apps looking for one. Or if you can port it to the android? I am running a HTC Hero for Sprint.

Although not really a programming question I believe many developers would have come across this and therefore give the best answer.Currently I am developing an App for iPhone for the organisation I work for. Its close to release and there is heaps of interest when I present it but the occasional question comes up am I going to port it to Android. My answer is I would like to but according to web stats more than 90% of phones hitting our website are iPhones and the other 10% is declining (probably people migrating away from Blackberry, last count was 98% was iOS)Now if you read the media many people would like you to believe that its a split market between Android and iPhone but this might be just in the U.S where the single carrier for the iPhone has limited its consumer uptake because all the information available to us (at least in my organisation) states otherwise.
I was curious to hear from other people who have looked into these stats both inside and outside the U.S because when I tell the person asking that there is no demand they dismiss it and say its growing, once again contradicting the stats available for our organisation.I am really interested in Android dev so don't really want to hear that I should just make it to give people an alternative, it's hard to justify to management that I should spend their money to deliver content to 5% of our market. Currently it makes more sense to make a cut down web App rather than an Android App.

What are the pros and cons to use iPhone/Android phones to write scripts?
I'd like to buy a new mobile phone which I can utilize my time to do some scripting even when I'm not at my desktop computer.I heard that you can't save files to your iPhone unless you jail break it. This maybe a big problem if I want to create some new scripting file. Say I want to create a abc.java and there's no way for me to save it.
Is it the same case for Android too? Can I create local scripting files on Android phones? Since Android is a linux os... is it possible to install java sdk or other sdk (like flex?) on it?

We all know that Android runs Dalvik VM programs. Normally developers write programs in Java and they compile it to Dalvik bytecode. I wonder if it would be possible to create a compiler that can take C# code and compile it into Dalvik bytecode.

I have written an android app that needs the GPS capabilities of the phone. If GPS is activated everything works fine, but if it is not i get an error. So my question: Is it possible to write code that is activating GPS on the phone? I found a forum post that it is not possible because of security reasons. Is this true?

Is it possible to write the code/compile Android application on one machine and debug it remotely on the emulator launched on another? I'm sick and tired of the emulator constantly eating half of my laptop's processor.

No.1) Angry Birds very fun sick ass game. Huge hit on iOS, am pretty sure you heard of it. They said its coming to android but no one knows the date. Hopefully this month.
No.2) Minigore- Another huge hit on iOS, this is my second favorite game. Its super fun, addicting, funny and just pure awesome.
No.3) Plants vs Zombies- This is the most fun and challenging game on iOS in my opinion. Its fun, deep, creative, clever and freakin rocks. The best game on any mobile platform period. don't chew my head off people it's just my opinion.
This game is so fun my buddy had to break up with his long times girlfriend because she didn't cook or clean anymore all she wants to do is play plants vs zombies. Seriously. If these games can be ported over to android it would be sweet. There's just not enough games like these for android their are a few thats great but adding these three i think would make a lot of android phone owners happy, i know i would. I wouldn't need this ipod anymore for sure. Well there you have it people, this is just my opinion let me know what you think?

I have an HP Touchpad and a Galaxy Nexus, both devices with ICS and good quality screens - but I am looking for games and stuff I can play on them.
I am looking for high quality games, that has both good content and good graphics.
I have games such as Anomaly HD, World Of Goo, Edge, Dungeon Defenders, Osmos HD, Backstab HD. I also heard that portal, counter strike and GTA 3 was ported.
Is there any other good ports? Or high quality games.

I had a 3GS iPhone for a short while and while the device was nice, I didnt like it that much. For one I hate iTunes and did not like the lack of customization. Also, I use Windows Vista and the integration with Outlook 2007 was a pain. I am very intersted in WM devices and Android. What is going to be the best for me considereing the above? Do Android and WM sync with Outlook the same and better than the iPhone?

I'm looking for an easier way of switching my input method/keyboard rather than digging through the menus. (I'm using a Droid X, btw.) I constantly switch between the standard mutlitouch keyboard and the Korean keyboard 단글한글. Multitouch lets you hold down on one of the corner keys to bring up the input method selection, but any other keyboard seems to require going all the way back into my settings to change it, often forcing me to stop what I'm doing and jump out of the current application. Any recommendations? I've looked up things like Keyboard Widget, or Keyboard Manager, but haven't had any luck. On that note, if there's any devs out there that would want to create such a app...

I am looking for an "Outlook like" note and task manager that syncs between my Eris and my PC. This seems like a much needed app and apparently it exists just not for the Droid, because I used it with my Blackberry.I just want something easy and simple that I can make my grocery list either on my Eris itself or on my desktop and have it sync up. I hate having to enter everything directly on the phone and would like to see the same notes/tasks on my PC and this also enables me to print them as well. Outlook synced up with my Blackberry and it was just a simple effort to see all my notes right there on Outlook and also on my BB. It seems like everyone is looking for this, so why hasn't it been done? Why does Eris sync up with my Outlook calendar and contacts but not my notes and tasks? Google docs seems just like the name says - docs. I just want notes to be synced to my pc. I currently using Color Notes and Easy Notes to keep stuff on my phone but, again, want it to sync with PC.

Ok, simple question. How do I quickly call a contact from a specific group? If I press Phone, there's no option to choose a group.I can pless People, Groups, <group name>, <contact>, Call mobile. Not exactly quick and easy. I've been using the People widget. It can show 9 contacts, or 3 contacts, from a predefined group, and you can scroll for more. I've had two 3-contact instances on a screen, Favorites and Co-workers. That's all that will fit. But I don't have pictures on any of my contacts anymore. The link to Facebook was just too buggy, so I removed it. So the People widget takes up a lot of space for just 6 names, and I need to scroll it most of the time (actually I can only see 4 of the names when it's scrolled to the top). On one whole screen. I'd like a button that brings up all contacts from a predefined group and lets me click one to call him/her. Or a compact widget that lists just the names in a group and calls when I click. Is there anything like that?

I know there is zoomControls which can be added to the view. But it looks like I have to take care of the zoomin/zoomout actions myself. Is there a simple class that will take care of the zooming and panning automatically?just like the map behavior but without the map.

When a group message is sent between my co-workers, who are all iphone users, and myself (Note 3), one person in the exchange does not receive the text. This is not the common iMessage issue that was plaguing me when I made the switch from Apple to Android. This is specifically affecting one iphone user. When I send her a text individually it is not a problem. The other iPhone users don't have a problem receiving or sending to me.

I'm looking for calendar widget (or app with widget) that will allow me to easily toggle between several different google calendars.
I like the stock HTC calendar widget & app on my Desire, and just having the full calendar widget (with a little coloured triangle on any day with something on) seen here. But I have several different Google calendars (work, partner's work schedule, non-work events, holidays/birthdays, etc) so if I leave them all shown I look too busy every day.
I'd like a calendar widget that lets me toggle the displayed calendars on and off with, say, 2 taps instead of going all through the tree (menu, more, calendars, tickybox, back, back).
Failing that, I'd like another calendar widget that displays in the same month-grid style and can hold the setting to display only my work calendar (while leaving the other widget on the other home screen displaying all google calendars).
I've looked a bit but only see things that don't sync with Google, or only display a week-view, etc. Any ideas?
