Nov 16, 2010I am implementing a music player application in Android. My play list selection screen is implemented as a tab selector widget which contains a ListActivity inside each of the tabs: Artist, Albums, Songs.
I want to update the ListView in each of the ListActivity when I delete an item from any of the lists.
i.e. When I long press an item in the Artists list a context menu is drawn with "Delete Artist"
And it should delete all the songs from this artist in the Songs ListView, delete all the albums by this artist in the Albums ListView, and finally delete the entry for the artist in the Artist ListView.
Each of the ListActivity has its own fillData() method, which updates the ListView when the button in the context menu is pressed.
How can I call the fillData() method of the Albums ListActivity after I update the ListView inside of the Artists ListActivity?
Android :: ScrollView With Buttons Inside / No Response Until Second Click On Any Button Inside
Oct 30, 2010I've been a couple of days trying to solve this thing but I can'f figure it out.The problem is, simple activity, with simple layout, ScrollView -> LinearLayout -> and a lot of buttons inside the layout (within the scroll content). Everything works just fine but one tricky thing. When I click a button let's say at the top of the scroll content and inmediatelly I scroll down to the bottom of the content and I click other button there, nothing happens until I click a second time and all come to normal again.This can be reproduced anytime and it's code independent (i've tried more than 20 scenarios). I've not much experience in android yet but looks like the scroll listener stops the onclick listener or something like that.

Feb 28, 2010I want to populate a table, defined in layout xml file through the programmatic way. I have define Table with a single row defining its header, with all the attributes set. Now i want to know a way so that i can just replicate that header row in the table with new content.
I tried using inflator inflate(int,view) method, but at runtime it showed up with error.

As it stands, the application Im writing has 4 different screens:
1. Screen 1 - list of nodes (main screen)
2. Screen 2 - options menu, tableLayout with buttons
3. Screen 3 - navigation
4. Screen 4 - text details on version etc
These screens can be navigated to/from using a "header" View that is placed on top. the header then has 4 different buttons:

The header is just an XML-file (header.xml) with a few buttons. That header.xml is the included in the Layouts using the include-markup. For example, the main.xml has the line:

The header show up alright, but the question is - what is the correct approach to attach OnClickListeners for the buttons in the header?
Christopher pointed out that you could create an Activity class and do the hooks there, like this:

Aug 29, 2010Im using ListView to to show some custom data, once data is updated in the adapter i call notifyDatasetChanged(), so the view will get updated, all of this works well, my issue though is i would like to run an animation once only on items that got changed when the adapter was updated. currently i keep a copy of all the changed objects and i tried to animate the correct items through the getView() call.
However if i do it only once for every getView call then i see no animation most of the time on items that changed. if i continue to do so in successive getView calls i see animation on items that don not change as well and also the ones that changed get animated again and again.
Im guessing sometimes android calls the getView() for other reasons than showing the generated view immediately, and thats the reason it doesnt work if i do it once.

The issue is that if I have lots of stuff inside it I will get a 'java.lang.OutOfMemoryError: bitmap size exceeds VM budget'

Aug 6, 2010I have read the Android UI trick 2 on Android developers, which tells people how to include a layout in another layout file multiple times, and give these included layouts different id. However, the sample here is overwriting the layout id, not the id of the views IN this layout. For example, if the workspace_screen.xml looks like this: And I include it three times in another layout file. Do I end up with three TextViews with id firstText, and another three with secondText? Isn't there an id collision? And how do I find the secondText TextView in the third included layout with findViewById? What should I input in the findViewById method?

Nov 4, 2010I'm trying to build an activity that has a checkbox on top, a button at the bottom, and a bunch of other widgets scrolling in between. Conceptually that'sWhen it renders I get the checkbox at the top, the stuff scrolling nicely underneath, but the Button drawn offscreen (I assume) below the ScrollView. The only way I can get the Button to be visible is to hard-code the height of the ScrollView, which of course only works on one screen-size. I've tried all combinations of gravity and layout_weight I can think of to no avail. Am I using the right combination of Views? Anybody managed to get this working?

Sep 9, 2010I currently have code that creates rows in a table that hold a string in column 1 with a RadioButton in column 2. There can be a variable number of these rows. That all works just great, but I want to add them to a RadioGroup so only one button can be toggled at a time. When I tried to add the dynamic RadioButton to the RadioGroup AFTER I added it to the table row, I got an error saying that the child (the RadioButton) already had a parent. I agree, it does have one, the TableRow.
can you have radio buttons tied to a radio group inside of a row or, should I just code my own toggle mechanism and avoid RadioGroup all together? I mean, I could code the onClick to unclick all other radio buttons, but I would rather not do this if I can use the build in RadioGroup.

UITabBar essentially is a battery of buttons exhibiting a TAB like behavior: every button maps to an activity. I have two solutions for this: 1. In the layout XML for every activity, I insert a <LinearLayout><Button/><Button/><Button/></LinearLayout> element. And then have a common listener class that will handle the button clicks. So, every activity will have an instance of this listener. 2. To create a custom Widget extending LinearLayout class, put all the buttons as its static members and let it handle the button clicks. Include this custom control in every screen.

Mar 2, 2010I have multiple radio buttons which I want to layout using a table but also include them in a single radio group. I have the following xml layout:

But unfortunately the radio buttons inside the table seem to ignore the fact that they're inside of the RadioGroup tags and because of this you can select more than one radio button at the time. I noticed that by removing the table and just having the radio buttons it works just fine. How can I overcome this? Would it be as simple as declaring the radio group inside of the table instead of outside?

Jan 6, 2010I have a simple ListView and on that ListView I have placed a number of custom defined Views. The CustomView has ImageView and two TextViews.
The CustomView also has a "stateful drawable" as background, so that the background image (a 9-patch) changes if you press the Row in the ListView. When pressing the Row, the background image changes to a Red-ish thing.
The problem is that when the background changes from the default greyish, all the Views in the CustomView (ImageView and TextViews) still have their greyish background and thus creates very ugly greay boxes on top of the now redish background.
What is the best way to solve that problem? I hoped that such things were handled automatically (as it is done in for example .NET), but I was wrong it seems.
Android :: ListView Items Not Clickable With HorizontalScrollView Inside / Make It?
Jun 6, 2010I have quite a complicated ListView. Each item looks something like this...
In my activity, when an item is created (getView() is called) I add dynamic TextViews to the LinearLayout inside the HorizontalScrollView (besides filling the other, simpler stuff out). Amazingly, performance is pretty good.
My problem is that when I added the HorizontalScrollView, my list items became unclickable. They don't get the orange background when clicked and they don't fire the OnItemClickedListener I have set up (to do a simple Log.d call).
How can I make my list items clickable again?
Edit: setting android:descendantFocusability="blocksDescendants" on the topmost LinearLayout seems to work. I'd like to know if there are other ways, though: what if I want focusable items in my list items?
