View 2 Replies View RelatedI have been debating rooting and using Fresh 1.1 and was possibly going to do it over lunch today at work, however, i have a question:
With HTC releasing the kernal for 2.1 for the Hero today, what does this mean for me (the unrooted Hero user looking forward to 2.1)?
Is it any indication as to the update being released soon? I know the 99.9% answer to that is "it's up to Sprint to release it" and the 100% answer to that question is "your guess is as good as mine", but historically speaking, when the kernal for a build is released, what timeframe usually exists between kernal release and upgrade release? I guess the bigger question is, what exactly is a "kernal"?
I know most everyone is going to say "root, once 2.1 is released, the cooks will have the rooted version available shortly after" or "root, and if it does come out, you can always flash back the stock RUU and upgrade OTA then", but the think is, I dont' want to root and then with my luck, 2.1 gets released next week
Just looking for some insight/best guesses.
Also, while on rooting, I actually brought a separate microSD card to make the Nandroid backup on. Is this a good/bad idea? Is the best way to do this to make a copy of the SD card on the PC, do the root and flash with a clean card) and then copy everything back to the card? I have an 8 GB card that is nearly full. Don't know how much space is required on the card to root/flash.
i just discovered that in the ROM manager app you can update your clockworkmod recovery version, i updated to v2.5.0.1 and when i boot into recovery mode it looks completely different now, its a different color green, its got different options, and instead of pressing home as the ok you have to scroll down past like 7 no's to get to yes. is it supposed to be like this and should i always keep it updated? is there anything else i should always check updates for? im running froyo nightlys on a (sprint) cdma htc hero with google
View 1 Replies View RelatedWhat is the best way to overclock Fresh 2.3.3? I am just looking for something I can flash once and be done with it. Want it to make the phone faster and get better battery life. Is 710 kernel/OC Widget combo best? Looking for links... Thanks! looking for something like gumbo custom kernel...
View 19 Replies View RelatedI will be rooting tonight then putting fresh 1.1 on and then the gumbo kernel and want to use one of these two to speed up the phone. Which one should I use?
I am okay with paying 99 cents for the app so please do not count that against it. I am looking for overall performance.
I tried both overclock and setcpu for 528 max and 160 (or 245) min. Whenever I put my phone in sleep and turn it back on, it automatically goes to 245 min 245 max which is slooow. Could this be a problem with the rom? because Im using Darchlegend v4 2.1 rom. Im just gonna unistall for now

View 1 Replies View RelatedI was wondering if there is a way to determine who passed an intent to my application. For example, I have a service, that I want to act differently depending on who passed the intent (for security reasons). I'm trying to sandbox each calling application, so they only have access to their data stored in my application.
For it to be secure, I cannot trust any application to be truthful about the identifying data it is passing into my service. Therefore, I need some system way of identifying who sent the intent in a way that the calling application cannot change that information. I don't know if it is possible, but I can't find anything in the Intent class, and I was wondering if there may be another structure which does what I want it to. If it is not possible, I would like to get some type of mechanism to do this in the roadmap.
after installing 2.2 on my hero, everything was working fine, until now. im having problems with my text messages, they wont send under sprints network, if i put it in roaming then they send right away, but roaming has awefully slow (1x) network speeds, but if i put it back to the 3g network speeds of sprint then everytime i try to send a text it just swirls in circles (the little thing next to the message) and wont send. is this sprints network being down? or does this have to do with the 2.2 update?i dont think its sprint because my mom and sister arent having any problems with there phones from the same plan. but i tryed restarting many times, taking out and leaving out the battery, putting it in airplane mode and turning that back off to reset connection, iv tryed everything and cant get it to work, so idk what to do, and i dont understand why if it was a software problem with the 2.2 installation, why would they send in roaming but not on sprints network?
View 6 Replies View RelatedI have read a couple of threads that touched on this ring issue, but was unable to find any that had a solution or work around.Since the 2.1 update and the OTA update, many times when an incoming call comes, the phone doesn't ring. If I happen to be in front of the phone, I can see the screen change showing an incoming call.If I am listening to Pandora Radio, when the phone rings, Pandora stops, but the phone never rings. If I am not near or looking at the phone this results in missing the call.If I shut off the phone and re-boot it appears to ring fine, but at some point later in the day or week it will quit ringing.I normally never turn off the phone. Should I start to re-boot every day?

View 3 Replies View RelatedI am writing a music player for esoteric music formats, and have defined mime types for them in my Manifest.
However, the standard music player is always started even though it can't handle the format. Looking at logcat I see;
: D/MediaScannerService( 688): IMediaScannerService.scanFile: / sdcard/download/Cybernoid.sid mimeType: audio/prs.sid : I/ActivityManager( 578): Stopping service: com.android.providers.media/.MediaScannerService : I/ActivityManager( 578): Starting activity: Intent { action=android.intent.action.VIEW data=file:///sdcard/download/ Cybernoid.sid type=audio/prs.sid flags=0x4000000 comp={com.android.music/com.android.music.MediaPlaybackActivity} }
.. so it seems the component is explicitly set to the music player ? Is there any way around this ?
Why below code is throwing nullPointer exception in last line (when accessing javaInterface.mValue) This line through NullPointer, so basically it is not being set. even though the javascript is correct and has been verified using FireBug that it returns expected string.
There are few lines above this code chunk but it is irrelevant this problem

I have an activity that implements LocationListener in my application and my onLocationChanged method has been working perfectly up until recently. For some reason the Location object being passed into the method is null. My question is, why is it null? Does it pass in a null object if it cannot acquire a location?
My GPS is on and I have it set to pull a location from the GPS, and I know my GPS can get a fix on me as I used Maps and had it locate me.
Also, I have the permission for my app set as:
CODE:.................
I don't believe permissions is the issue though, as my activity was working beforehand and I have not altered the permissions since then.
Here is the code that determines the provider of the location object:
CODE:.............
Here is the LogCat output of the error:
CODE:..............
I have tested the same code on another device (an HTC MyTouch 3G to be precise) and it works flawlessly with the GPS, however on my Motorola Droid it crashes.

To sum up:
When I click on an item in the ListView, the background color that gets changed is not that of the clicked item but instead of the other item in the opposite side relative to the middle item:
1 <-- I click here 2 3 <-- Acts as a mirror 4 5 <-- This is the one that gets changed
1 2 <-- This is the one that gets changed 3 <-- Acts as a mirror 4 <-- I click here 5
This problem persists even when I use CheckedTextView like what is suggested in the post.
I use the latest stable SDK.
This problem occurs when the target platform is Android 1.6, 2.0 or 2.0.1.
The problem does not occur when the target platform is Android 1.1 or 1.5.
However, the problem will also occur when the program is compiled for 1.5 and run in 2.0.1.
The simple problematic code can be found here: [url]
There I also put the screenshots showing the problem: demo01.png: I click an item. demo02.png: the clicked item doesn't get changed but the reflective item does.
Is this a bug in newer Android platforms?
If it is intended, what is the reason and could you please show me how I should fix my code?
Is there a way to scale the Drawable passed to TextView.setCompoundDrawables ? The following code works very well but of course is set to the full intrinsic size of the drawable. This code is used with the Holder pattern in a ListView where the purpose is to update the drawable without two more Views (LinearLayout and ImageView) to accomplish the same thing. code...
I suppose I can use Drawable.setBounds() and preserve the original aspect ratio with a small function but just wondering if there this a more direct way to do this with the api?
My phone has just presented with the above problem. When I switch it on it won't boot passed the start up screen with the big 'S' and 'Samsung Galaxy S II' below it.
