Is there a way to quickly switch between qwerty and phone pad keyboards?For those who know TouchPal, it's just a swipe to switch between the keyboard types/layout.With the Hero, one must select menu and change the keyboard--several actions.Even with Windows Mobile, it only takes two taps.It would even be better if one can set the type of keyboard used based on application or context.

I can't select 3rd party text entry types.
Go into Language & Keyboard - I see Big Buttons Keyboard, Swiftkey Beta and HTC_IME mod listed, all 3rd party keyboards I have installed.
I select one of them. It gives me a warning, I say OK, box is ticked. This keyboard is now selected.
I go to create a new SMS or enter something into the browser.
Stock HTC Keyboard.
I try again. Choose a different 3rd party keyboard. Stock HTC Keyboard.
Am I Just missing some essential stage in the process here, or is something messed up?
I was just wondering if anyone out there knows an easier way to organize the shortcuts for the HTC Hero's Sense UI. Its kinda a PITA to handle it IMO when you want to switch things around.

Text messaging app crashes from time to time and I have to force close and loose all the texts. Should I upgrade the SD card? I've been reading about rooting the phone and about ROMs but I dont fully comprehend it.

I put my phone on the charger at 5:30 pm. It's now 6:34 pm and my battery is at 98% charged. I'm using the standard charge provided by HTC.

View 3 Replies View RelatedWell, I was playing with my phone today and I might have made it a faster in a few minutes. This is what I did Home - Menu -settings - Applications - Manage Applications. In this menu it shows how much memory each program is using (?), not really sure, but if you click on the program you can clear out the cache and also clear the data of the program. I cleared out all of the data and cache from the programs that I dont use (sprint TV, NFL crap, footprints, etc...). It seems like its running faster, might help for people that have been using the phone for a long time and have a build up of data just sitting there doing nothing? Let me know if this works for anyone else!

View 3 Replies View RelatedAfter updating my Hero the other day I have noticed a marked decrease in battery life. This started the very next day after updating my hero.
Right now I'm at 41% of battery life left after unplugging from the charger about 9 hours ago. For the past few weeks, I have been around 65%-70% at this time of day, and I'd normally be at about 15%-20% at 10:30 when I go to bed.
Is anyone else experiencing a similar decrease in battery life after the update?
Indeed HTC is working on a fix for these issues, but here is what You can do to fix the application in the mean time. I was getting 2 hours "Heavy" (texting,data,wifi,high brightness) use before.I read somewhere that there it is a battery issue caused by the defaul HTC (or android, idk) application.The work around is for sms to something other than the included app as the default action for text messaging. This is accomplished installing another handcent sms or various other apps that you may find by going to the market and searching SMS.After installation go to the contacts list and send a text to a contact.A screen should pop up and ask which messaging app you would like to use. If i does not ask you, then you should go to Settings> Applications> Manage Applications> It will take a minute while your phone computes the space taken up by each app.Click Messages> and Tick Clear defaults if it is available. Viola! substantial battery boost and faster charges.you can verify that your phone is now using less power by rebooting then shut of your screen by pressing the end key wait for 1-5 mins mins without touching it now quickly settings> about phone> status all the way at the bottom your phones "Awake Time" (not up time) should be below %40 (mine is between 10-40%) day to day if this is not the case your phone has other issues and I will try my best to help you out
I have also heard that by letting you device go to sleep immidiately after turning it on it enters a weird device state that causes %100 cpu usage. though i cannot confirm this i always flip to the next screen and back a few times and check my twitter and what not to make sure.
Having music junk on the phone does it kill the battery faster? and does it slow down the phone?
View 2 Replies View RelatedDont get me wrong, the QWERTY keyboard is sick, and I love it. But after typing on the keyboard for while, I wanted to switch it up, so I tried the on screen key pad. And to my surprise, the on screen keyboard appears to be much quicker than using the QWERTY!

I know that I am missing something.You can search for roms. I can do that with google.You can reboot into recovery. You can do that buy holding the up-volume button.You can automatically install a rom from the SD card. No you can't. I tried and all the app did was reboot my phone into recovery.You can install a rom using a picture. What? There MUST be a way to install a ROM using ROM Manager without the need to plug into the desktop. Could somebody out there please educate me?

View 3 Replies View RelatedI have a weird issue, I have a Bluetooth speaker that I used for music on my Blackberry Storm, the storm automatically recognized that the speaker was a speaker, but the droid recognizes it as headphones, which is an issue, because the speakers are a2dp, and it's using the headset profile, which makes the sound quality SUCK!
Anyone have any idea how I can change it? I've tried unpairing and repairing it like 3 times now...
I used my Hero this morning/afternoon with music, wi-fi, internet browsing, and I used up the first half of the battery. And after that, I have been mostly studying and not using my phone... but the second half of the batter drains, it seems like, FASTER than the first half did! No music playing, no wi-fi, no internet browsing? Is this normal? Is it just the nature of these batteries?

I remember literally doing my HW online with that kb. Was just wondering if devs ever considered using that kb with 2.1 builds. I'm sure our kb's can be better than what it is (laggy).

View 1 Replies View RelatedI just go hero and I went to the Pop3 setting and started to insert my microsoft pop3 account setting in the fields as prompted. The password was not correct so it would not pull in my emails.I can't seem to find out how to go back into my pop3 settings since the HTC Hero email application will not let me view my previous settings to make changes.There must be a way, I am just not seeing it.Please help me with the correct procedure.It tells me to select my email account from the drop down screen in my created email account, so, I select the email address that it shows that I created.

The reason i want to change it is because my gmail app only opens email from that account, and I used a new gmail account to register my phone with that was specifically for my contacts, and now i cant check my other gmail accounts email. anyone know a good solution without having to format?

I have tried to change orientation, and exit the app and no luck. The only thing that really works is to reset the phone. i have even tried to use Better Keyboard and it does it too.
View 19 Replies View RelatedWhen I rooted to 2.1 I had a microphone by the gear. I also notice a microphone on the Evo. I was having issues with Gmail and switched to the official RUU and now have no microphone icon. That is an amazing feature! So how do I get it back? Diff keyboard or a feature I am missing? It looks like I cannot root anymore (for a while at least). Anyways just having the microphone icon would suffice I don't have to root per se.
