Sprint HTC Hero :: Second Half Of Battery Drains Faster Than First Half - No Music Playing - No Wi-fi - No Internet Browsing
Oct 15, 2009I used my Hero this morning/afternoon with music, wi-fi, internet browsing, and I used up the first half of the battery. And after that, I have been mostly studying and not using my phone... but the second half of the batter drains, it seems like, FASTER than the first half did! No music playing, no wi-fi, no internet browsing? Is this normal? Is it just the nature of these batteries?

Nov 20, 2009After updating my Hero the other day I have noticed a marked decrease in battery life. This started the very next day after updating my hero.
Right now I'm at 41% of battery life left after unplugging from the charger about 9 hours ago. For the past few weeks, I have been around 65%-70% at this time of day, and I'd normally be at about 15%-20% at 10:30 when I go to bed.
Is anyone else experiencing a similar decrease in battery life after the update?

Oct 18, 2010Does everyone keep their screen brightness on auto or do you set it manually. I notice when it's on auto, sometimes the screen doesn't light up all the way. Will setting it manually drain the battery quicker? I notice in my battery usage that it says display is at like 74%. Not sure if that's normal or not. I have the brightness set at about 1/4 of the way up.

Jul 5, 2012i've just flash a new miui rom on my o2x. and i found that the battery drain much faster than it was before. last night i had 14% of battery left on my phone, and this morning it shut down due to out of battery. so i pluged in my wall charger while my phone was off. and when it showed the green fully chargeed bar i disconnected the charger and boot my phone in to CWM recovery to wipe battery stats. then i reboot the phone into android and u know what? the phone show 100% of battery only in 3 secconds and then it show 1% left. i connect the charger and the phone show that it's being charged? how can it charge a fully charged battery? and the charging speed is faster as light. it's has been charging about 15 mins now and it show 46% charged. may be google was wrong saying that batterystats.bin does not affect the measurement of battery level.

Jun 7, 2010I started a new job today, the training room somehow manages to get no service. My phone died in about 7 hours, I used it for about 10 mins total.
All weekend I got much better results, with it coming in and out of service do you think it's draining it faster? Only thing I had turned on was gps location. I would like to keep it on so I don't have to power it up on breaks and wait for any missed messages to come through.

I put my phone on the charger at 5:30 pm. It's now 6:34 pm and my battery is at 98% charged. I'm using the standard charge provided by HTC.

I only have one widget the htc one that originally came with the phone it has a huge clock and a weather update if u don't know what widget this is. But that's it I know the Internet, upstream etc drain battery life but when I'm not doing these things the battery feels short my screen timeout is for 1 minute. I just feel my battery life Drains to fast and I don't know why.

Jun 21, 2010I've searched on here, but none of the threads really answered my question post the 2.1 second upgrade. Which widgets use battery life even during sleep mode/when the homescreen ISN'T actively being displayed? I was under the impression that homescreen widgets don't load until you swipe to that homescreen (except for Twitter of course). The Facebook and YouTube widgets always load up with new status updates and videos recommended for me after I turn my phone from sleep mode. These widgets are all on one screen, so if I wake my phone up and swipe to the screen with Facebook and Youtube, they will show facebook status updates that say like updated 2 mins ago and Youtube will have the slideshow going of videos recommended for me. Also, does the official HTC battery widget cause high battery drain? I may to look at my friend's Droid at work and see how he gets 2 days of battery life. He doesn't seem like he would lie about it, and says when he uses the web it dies fast. However, he did say that it pulls his email automatically for him so he must not be turning 3G off.

Oct 18, 2009Indeed HTC is working on a fix for these issues, but here is what You can do to fix the application in the mean time. I was getting 2 hours "Heavy" (texting,data,wifi,high brightness) use before.I read somewhere that there it is a battery issue caused by the defaul HTC (or android, idk) application.The work around is for sms to something other than the included app as the default action for text messaging. This is accomplished installing another handcent sms or various other apps that you may find by going to the market and searching SMS.After installation go to the contacts list and send a text to a contact.A screen should pop up and ask which messaging app you would like to use. If i does not ask you, then you should go to Settings> Applications> Manage Applications> It will take a minute while your phone computes the space taken up by each app.Click Messages> and Tick Clear defaults if it is available. Viola! substantial battery boost and faster charges.you can verify that your phone is now using less power by rebooting then shut of your screen by pressing the end key wait for 1-5 mins mins without touching it now quickly settings> about phone> status all the way at the bottom your phones "Awake Time" (not up time) should be below %40 (mine is between 10-40%) day to day if this is not the case your phone has other issues and I will try my best to help you out
I have also heard that by letting you device go to sleep immidiately after turning it on it enters a weird device state that causes %100 cpu usage. though i cannot confirm this i always flip to the next screen and back a few times and check my twitter and what not to make sure.

I figured that since it can read my WiFi easier, it might use less power, then again it is a function on the phone that needs to be launched and therefore might be draining more.

Jan 11, 2010I just got my Hero from Sprint last week and I love it! But I have one small problem. When my battery drains and the phone shuts itself off (ie powers down). After I charge it up and turn the phone back on I have no service, if I try to go turn my mobile network back on it wont allow me to open the program and it forecloses on itself. The only way I am able to do ANYTHING on the phone or use it is to reset it to factory settings which causes me to lose EVERYTHING!Has anyone had this problem or know of anyway to fix it when this happens?

Dec 29, 2009I was unexpectedly away from home, but using the device quite heavily, and didn't have a method to charge the battery. Once the battery had drained to about 3%, I switched the phone off. I ended up needing to make another call. The phone booted, but all core apps returned a force close message. Phone, Maps, Google Account, all the main stuff. Other apps would launch and function with no problem though. I rebooted the phone again thinking there would still be just enough juice to allow a phone call, but while booting, the battery totally failed.
Once I had a change to plug in the charger, all core apps continued to fail, even though the phone now had plenty of power. Even after a battery pull, the same issues continued, rendering the phone pretty much useless. No phone link, no network, nothing. The phone is rooted and I'm currently running Fresh ROM v1.0, so lacking anything else to do, I performed a Nandroid restore from about 2 days ago and that seems to have fixed up the problem. (I did not want to resort to the RUU)

Jul 23, 2010If you're like a lot of Android users, you're obsessed with battery life and probably require a percentage widget. If you don't use a battery life widget, this probably isn't for you. I used to use Curve Fish's battery life widget which, in my initial testing months ago, didn't seem to affect battery life so I kept it and didn't think much about it.
My brother-in-law showed me a percentage indication that goes over the battery icon in the status bar on his Evo 4G. I found this hack for the Hero:

It adds the percentage remaining on top of your existing battery gauge in the status bar. Yes, root is required for this. At the time of writing this, I am at 14h 20m since unplugged and have 69% remaining. I would typically be between 47-53% remaining by this time. That equates to 3.5% drain per hour improved to 2.2% drain per hour. Which then comes out to around 60% increase in battery life without the loss of any features.
Sprint HTC Hero :: Best Way To Do Good Deep Cleaning Of Screen?
Oct 28, 2009So I expected this as I have friends with iPhones and I see it on their phones. Smudges! I hate smudges! So normally I just wipe it clean with a microfiber and it looks pretty good, however that does not always remove all the oils caught on the screen. I would think that over time, the oils sitting on the screen will end up degrading the screen or make it look nasty later on. I am wanting to clean it and not sure what to use. I have a cleaning kit we use on the document scanners at work. It has microfiber pads and a cleaning chemical which after reading the ingredients is just isopropyl rubbing alcohol.I heard the HTC Hero has a special coating on it that keeps it resistant to scratches and makes smudges easier to clean. My concern is that the isopropyl alcohol will beat up that coating.So after beating around the bush...the question is, what is the best way to do a good deep cleaning of the screen?

Jul 18, 2010My droid x signal pretty much always between -92dBm and -87dBm with 1-3 3g bars. My former droid eris would get -92dBm with 1 bar and also drain incredibly fast.
On the droid x, if I go into google maps, the circle of the cell tower appears and the place I live at is half way within the edge of the circle and the other half is outside of the circle. I always seem to be connected to this tower. Bad luck I guess that I'm on the outskirts of the circle.
Does anyone know how cell towers are distributed? Do they overlap sometimes?
I run pandora with the screen off for a half hour with the screen off and my battery is down to 70%. I have about 15% screen brightness and battery saving mode on.
yesterday, I was on meebo for an hour and 45 minutes and it was down to 60% from a full charge.

I installed an app called Quick Settings, which decreases brightness by another 10-20%. May not work for some brighter situations, but if you want to have the screen "always on" or know you'll be going hard w/ Facebook, every little bit helps.

Mar 21, 2010I've had this phone for a week now and today it developed something new. When I plug in the battery charger, the touch screen becomes almost entirely non-responsive. When I attempt to slide the Lock Screen away it either won't move or I can get it to slightly move but it bounces right back or even sticks halfway. If I unplug the charger and wait about a minute it's back to working fine again. I've removed the battery a few times now to see if this helped but nothing seems to help. It didn't do this till today. Anyone else run into this problem and if so how did you remedy it?
