Sprint HTC Hero :: Where Can You See A List Of ROMS?
Aug 30, 2010
If there is some place you cans simply see a list of ROMS for rooted Heros? Roughly how many are there? Is there an easy way to see what each is known for so you can narrow down what will be right for each person?

I asked this in another thread and it got buried in other questions. Just want Google navigation really but assumed all this work on Roms was to utilize new Android source and not just uninstalling stock apps

I want to use Fresh 2.3.3s phone and contacts portion and replace the darchdroid 2.7's default phone and contacts. How does one do this? Is it simple or buggy and difficult? I've made a nandbackup, i am ready to experiment.

Are there any 100% stable and functional overclocked ROMs out now? When I say stable and functional I mean no phone app crashes on incoming calls and multimedia messaging works as well. I loved how fast and stable Fresh1.1 was, but all the OC'd 2.1 ROM's I've tried have at least a few problems.

No matter what 2.1 rom I load, I can make/receive calls ok for a few minutes.... then suddenly I cannot hear anything - no matter if I am making the call, or receiving the call. Have to reboot in order to get it to work. AFter rebooting, same thing. Everything works for a few calls, then I cannot hear anything. Anyone else experiencing this? I tried loading the Fresh audio fix, but it did not fix.

I have my Hero rooted with Fresh 1.1. I love it, but I have a few questions for the future.
1- I recently switched from a PC to a Mac. If I want to switch ROM's or go back to stock, can I do this on a mac? Or do I have to use a Windows pc?
2- I was interested in switching from Fresh 1.1 to Fresh 2.0c, but I'm a bit confused. Do I have to go back to stock, then root and flash 2.0c? Or can I flash it on top of 1.1?

About two days ago the DamageControl2.0r ROM started giving me the WiFi issues, and where I am with no EVDO or even E network. I rely on the WiFi at work and home, and wherever else I may need it. So I attempted to flash back to Fresh2.0c using the wipe/reboot and all the normal steps. Well it kept booting back to the Damage Control ROM. Someone suggested I use Nanroid backup then tried reflashing the rom. Which ended up working. Well I then decided I wanted to try the New Kitchen, because I love tinkering with this stuff, and it wouldn't flash again. I had to use Nandroid backup to go back to Fresh2.0c and have it working properly. Is there something I could be missing completely?

Just a few questions on flashing a new radio on a Sprint Hero, as I'd like to be sure I won't brick my phone and there really don't seem to be many guides on this.
Are certain radios only compatible with certain ROMs? If so, what do you do if you want to flash a new ROM afterwards? In the event a radio flash fails, can you attempt to flash a different one or is your phone pretty much bricked at that point?
I'll probably have more questions later, as the thought of bricking my new Hero is well, I'd really rather not have to go back to my old BlackBerry.

might be a dumb question, but I don't wanna do the fw update on my fresh 2.1.2 hero, if it's going to break root. I'm guessing not but want to be sure.

Just a small discussion. Curious as to why people prefer Sense-less ROM's. Android is the best cell phone OS I have ever used, and I think the SenseUI only improves it, aesthetically(sp?) and socially speaking. The tiny lag my Hero suffers is worth it for all of the beautiful widgets, the launcher, the Facebook and Twitter integrations and did I mention. I have never described anything electronic as beautiful before! The stock Android look captivates me until I use it. It seems so bland and *ugh* to me. And as far as speed goes, the Senseless ROM's I have tried are no faster then the Fresh ROM I am running, and if it is it's completely unnoticed by me. But anyways I am just curious what reasons you have for using the SenseUI or stock Android OS, whether it be for apps to run more efficiently, speed, whatever. Just curious, might try a couple new ROM's soon.

I'm running basic Sprint 2.1 rooted. I've removed all the bloatware, and wireless tether is working great. Pretty much everything is working great, actually, aside from the standard dialer and contact lag many people have reported, plus occasional lag in other areas.
So here's my question: Is there a custom ROM out there that solves the lagginess problem while leaving everything else basically functional and intact? I've been reading the threads around all the various ROMs, and while it seems that some offer real advantages in various areas, it also appears that each introduces its own new set of problems and dysfunctions. While I'd love a snappier phone, I don't want a bunch of new bugs, worse battery life, whatever. I mean, based on the threads here, the average custom ROM user's experience would seem to be slightly worse than my experience with the standard Sprint release.

I have rooted 2.1 on my Sprint Hero. So far I have tried Fresh 2.3.3, Darchdroid 2.7 and PureHero 2.3.I rooted for several issues, most of which have been solved, but my number one issue seems to still be haunting me. Good corporate exchange support! Sense based ROM's (Fresh 2.3.3 and stock) support Exchanges security policy and force you to enter a PIN, but bring up the keyboard. My company requires number in the PIN and therefore I have to switch to numbers and enter my pin on a keyboard. I can no longer chew gum and use my phone at the same time. Nonsense based ROM's (Darch and Pure) don't require the PIN and allow me to use a pattern security on my phone, but they don't let me overlay my exchange calendar onto my phone with my google calendar. They only sync mail and contacts. Hope this is where I am missing something. This is a deal breaker for me since I have google calendars for everyone in my family and exchange for work. Got to see them all in one place to be where I need to be.I have tried Lockpicker on the sense ROM's, but then I have no phone security. I have too much info on my phone to go with no security, but I don't want to quit chewing gum.Any suggestions? Is there ways to pick and choose some of the features in sense?

The official 2.1 is finally here! I have been trying to get a confirmed feature list for the 2.1 update and I haven't been able to find one specific to the hero. I know there is some variation between our update and the 2.1 running on the nexus one. I want to make sure to utilize all of the new bells and whistles that come with the update but I can't find a complete list. Any help would be great. so when will the "When is 2.2 gonna come to the hero?

I've got a Sprint Hero with Android 2.1 (.6 and not .5 as required for unrevoked). All I want is root access (no custom roms) for some applications (mainly WiFi tether). I'm a complete noob to rooting and what I gathered from the guides is that all data is erased. Is there any way (regardless of how complicated) such taht I don't lose any data/apps and just gain root access?

I use the TouchPal onscreen keyboard and there doesn't seem to be a way to add new words to the prediction list.
Now that the phone is rooted, I plan on really searching around, but before I do, maybe someone already has the answer.
Is there a sqllite database file somewhere in the system that contains the list of words that we can just easily add to?

Since Bluetooth is sketchy on the Hero, I figure it would be useful to have a list of peoples' experiences with different devices. If you have a Bluetooth device, please reply with it's manufacturer, name, the exact OS you are using, and how well it works. I'll try to keep this post updated.
Stock 2.1:
* Blueant Interphone (motorcycle helmet bluetooth) -- Works
* Jawbone Icon -- Works for both voice and A2DP
* Parrot CK3100 car kit -- Works for voice and enables voice dial
* Plantronics Voyager Pro -- Works
* 2010 Mazda 3 GT with Bose stereo system -- Works for voice but not A2DP
* Blue Ant T1 -- Does not work properly
Stock 1.5:
* Blueparrott B250-XT -- Works
* Foxl G-2 Bluetooth speaker -- Works
Fresh 2.3.3:
* Blue Ant T1 -- Does not work properly

I'm looking for some kind of list making app or a notepad app that can keep an ongoing list. More specifically I would like to find a good way to keep track of my DVDs. I never know whats missing because I have so many or if I'm buying a new one, whether or not I have it already. So I'm just looking for something that can handle a long list (600+ movies I have) and simply a check box to click if it has been loaned out and a numbering system to keep track of the running total. I can't find anything that really does that. Any suggestions?

The Android 2.2 Upgrade List: Phones Definitely Getting Froyo
Nexus One: Despite the shuttering of its online store, Google's flagship phone is still first in line for the Froyo upgrade. In late May, a "very limited test group" received an early copy of the 2.2 software. Google has since been working on final tweaks and expects a widespread rollout to begin soon.
Motorola Droid: The Droid that started it all is set to be second in line for the Android 2.2 upgrade. Early reports suggested the Droid could see Froyo before the end of June. We all know what happened with the Droid's 2.1 upgrade schedule, though, so don't mark your calendars just yet.
HTC Droid Incredible: HTC has confirmed that its newest Droid handset will be feasting on Froyo. No specific timeframe has been released outside of sometime "in the second half of this year."
HTC EVO 4G: The EVO 4G is the phone most frequently pitted up against Apple's new iPhone 4 (hint: the EVO wins), so it's no surprise that it's on the confirmed guest list for the latest and greatest Android release. The EVO should get Froyo sometime in the next six months.
MyTouch 3G and MyTouch 3G Slide: The entire MyTouch line of phones on T-Mobile is expected to see Froyo before the end of 2010.
HTC Desire: It's not yet available in the States, but this desirable HTC handset is on-tap to get the Android 2.2 upgrade sometime in the next six months as well.

I discovered this new feature today... well, actually I should give credit to my son, who got his hero about 3 weeks ago for finding this.
Pressing on the contact's picture in the people list pops a little menu that allows you to easily choose whether to call or text them. It even provides the Handcent icon if you are using that as your main messaging app!
Just thought I would share this finding, in case I wasn't the only one who didn't know about it!
