Jun 11, 2010I'd like to make an Android app that lets a user apply cool effects to photos taken with the camera. There are already a few out there, I know, but I'd like to try my own hand at one.
I have been googling and stack-overflowing, but so far I've mostly found some references to published papers or books. I am ordering this one from Amazon presently - Digital Image Processing: An Algorithmic Introduction using Java
After some reading, I think I have a basic understanding of manipulating the RGB values for all the pixels in the image. My main question is how do I come up with a transformation that produces cool effects?
By cool effects I mean some like those in these iPhone apps:
I already have quite a bit of experience with Java, and I've made my first app for android already. Any ideas?

May 8, 2010I just rooted my phone and loaded a 2.1 ROM (Damage Control v2.08). Everything seems to be working great. I went into my contacts (reloaded through MS Exchange) and noticed that some of the Facebook photos were auto linked to a contact, but some were not. I am guessing the ones that did not do not have a name that matches exactly did not load.With the stock phone, I was able to manually select the Facebook friend I wanted to associate with my contact and it added the picture.With 2.1, when I try to manually select a Facebook contact through "Link Facebook Profile", the screen doesn't list anyone to choose from.It is just blank and says "no matches found".Has anyone else had this problem? I'm trying to figure out how to manually link people. I can log into Facebook with no problem and everything there seems to work.

Oct 6, 2010I just noticed today when I opened my gallery that there is a folder titled "240x400." It has fifty random images that look like backgrounds for something. This folder has never been there before today and the only app I've added recently is Autokiller. Where the heck did this thing come from? Running CM6 if that helps.

May 22, 2010Does anybody else besides me also like the way the iPhone and Palm Pre both place the photo (or text "balloon") of peopl on alternate sides of the screen during text messengering and IM chat conversations? It really gives a nice sense the "back and forth" of real life conversation...and to also help distinguish one's own comments from those of the person one is conversing with...particularly if there's no actual photo in the phone book to show the person (you can still see the back and forth pattern Seems like such a great idea and so simple to implement! Why the heck can't they do that on our Android phone?

May 9, 2010I've made folders and added pics to the sd card while i had it in my computer but the stock photo app won't recognize the folders but it does see the pics and puts them in both the stock folders (All Photos, Camera Shots).
Why can't the stock photo app (photos) recognize the folders I put on my sd card? I'm fairly tech. savvy but can't figure this photo app file structure for the life of me! Is there a photo/camera app that asks where and what folder I want camera pics to be saved too?

HTC Eris :: Photo Gallery / Loading Pictures Slowly
Nov 11, 2010Today I finally upgraded to 2.2 and installed kaosfroyo. As with many other eris owners the camera app shuts out on me so I installed camera360 and I'm pretty happy with it. The only problem I have is the photo gallery and how stupid slow it is. It takes so long to load my pictures (which is pretty few) that my screen turns off after waiting. And when I go back into it, it attempts to reloads all the pictures again, just to have the screen turn off(again)! I never had this problem with 2.1 (xtrROM).

Nov 14, 2009I just got my new Droid phone 2 days ago. Great phone! But I have many things to learn. I have a question about the saved pictures. Why is it that when I open my photo gallery there are more than just the "all photos" folder. Seems when I take a picture, or save one off the Internet or transfer the pics off my old phone,that it makes a new folder for each different set of pics and puts all the pics in the "all pictures"folder. Is there any way I can just have the "all pictures" folder as the only one?
