Ive had my hero for about two months now, and so far its good. I switched from blackberry and had a major adjustment to the on screen keyboard. The thing that is pretty annoying is the delay when typing, i was told i may just need to slow down, but sometime you just need to shoot a quick message. i have changed the callibration a few times and nothing seems to help.

I think I'm experiencing my first real problem with my Hero. I've noticed that my wife (and who knows who else) hasn't been getting my txts when I send them... Sometimes it takes a full day for her to get them. Email has been delayed the past couple days, too. Items will sit in the outbox for hours and when I pull them up, there's red text saying it's sending..." This happens whether I'm connected to WiFi or just using the mobile radio. 2 bars or 5 bars, it doesn't seem to matter.
View 11 Replies View RelatedI've searched on here and can't find the threads. How do you turn off the screen when in a call? I'm tired of hanging up or pushing buttons while talking. And is there a better lock screen out there? I've looked on the market place, but haven't really found any. I want to have the choice of unlocking my phone when it rings before I can answer.
Also,I get delays on my messages where I can see there is a blinking light, but the sound won't notify me of a text until I wake up the phone. Anyone else getting hits? I use Handcent.
When I am responding to a text, the screen will not rotate.If I initate a text, it will rotate for me when I rotate the phone, but, when someone sends me a text, and I turn the phone to landscape to get the larger keyboard to send with, it will not change.I do have it set to rotate, as it will rotate if I try to do so when sending.Anything I can do about this? I've tried rebooting the phone a couple of times.
View 13 Replies View RelatedI have recently noticed that my Sprint HTC Hero (Stock and unrooted) has been receiving texts in a weird way. I doesnt notify me when the screen is off. If I turn on the screen I will receive notification as soon as I turn the screen on, but when I look at the time stamp it is usually old. Like 5 minutes or so. It doesnt do this all the time, just today I left my phone in my car (so I could charge it) while I was at work when I went out to my car the light was blinking and when i turned on the screen it said I had 2 texts, however, just as I get off work I responed back to my friends and when I got home when I looked at the phone nothing was going on. I turn the screen on and then my phone vibrates and notifies me but the time stamp on the text is 10 minutes old.

View 7 Replies View RelatedThe only thing that I've found that I dislike about this phone is the way it alerts you about new text messages. Is there a way to make your phones screen light up when you receive a text message? Also is there a way to set a reminder like every few minutes that you have a text message? Say if you receive a text message while you're away from the phone then two minutes later the phone vibrates or sounds to remind you that you have a new text.

View 1 Replies View RelatedDoes anybody else besides me also like the way the iPhone and Palm Pre both place the photo (or text "balloon") of peopl on alternate sides of the screen during text messengering and IM chat conversations? It really gives a nice sense the "back and forth" of real life conversation...and to also help distinguish one's own comments from those of the person one is conversing with...particularly if there's no actual photo in the phone book to show the person (you can still see the back and forth pattern Seems like such a great idea and so simple to implement! Why the heck can't they do that on our Android phone?

The problem is that when my phone is in SLEEP mode, it takes about 10-30 seconds for my phone to AWAKEN when receiving a text message and around 10 rings (from the caller) for my phone to AWAKEN start ringing. But when my phone AWAKE, I receive texts/calls right away. I have two phones so I constantly test it out and results are the same. Do you think some of my apps are delaying it? My default SMS app is Handcent and configured properly. Do you think Automatic Task Killer is the culprit (this kills all apps when in SLEEP mode)? But even if I exclude MESSAGES, VOICE DIALER and HANDCENT, I still get the delays.
View 3 Replies View RelatedI'm rooted but s is still on and nand is not unlocked. I'm running the stock rom.
I use to get little delays occasionally when I tried to make a phone call, and sometimes the keyboard was unresponsive when I tried to text. Always passed in a few minutes.
Now the thing is just lagging. delays all the time regardless of what I'm doing. I also get a message sometimes when I try to take pics saying I don't have file permissions for the sd card. A shutdown will usually resolve this.
Sometimes when I shutdown I can't restart it without popping the battery out for a few seconds.
I thought it might be related to an overclock widget I was trying so I deleted it without improvement.
Is it possible to change the "Sprint" text on the lock screen (above the time) to something else?

I like having the screen turn off quickly (since I believe power on/off for OLED is negligible) but it is annoying to have to constantly unlock the phone if I don't hit the power button within a second or so of the screen turning off.

View 3 Replies View Related1st time poster long time lurker. I have done a search on Google trying to find a solution or at least a reason as to why my phone is behaving this way. Search produces nothing. This week my phone started behaving strange. I will get a call, but the caller ID no longer displays. Suddenly the screen starts to flash and I have to unlock the screen in order to see who is calling. By the time the screen is unlocked the person has already hung up. I have not done anything (add new programs) in the last 2 weeks and I am not sure why this is happening.

View 6 Replies View RelatedThis isn't on par with the sidekick loss of data, but unknowingly missing text messages (across the board it seems) and unknowingly missing voicemails (less common, but still prevalent it seems) is a BIG DEAL. Even after I presumably fixed both text and voicemail issues, tested to confirm on both, I was surprised to find a few hours later that neither were working again! And I've not come close to toughing the 40MB limit Sprint is mentioning. I've had 100MB free on my phone the whole time. That's just unacceptable and means to me that some element of this product was released irresponsibly into the free market before it was ready. If there are fatal flaws associated with the use of task killers, or other 3rd party apps, this needs to be understood and communicated to the consumer.
As much as I LOVE Sense UI and the Hero in general, I'm porting back to my month-to-month Verizon plan to wait out the storm. Losing basic, critical phone functionality is NOT an option for me.
That's a real bummer for me because the Hero is *easily* my favorite phone on the market. Sense UI is forward looking, and I believe a bar-raiser for other companies, Apple included. But as much as I hate to give it up, it does sort of feel good to be back on the sidelines again, free to jump on the Passion (Dragon) or the like in the near future.
I thought this was supposed to be a huge feature in 2.1, am I missing the option to activate it? Was hoping to dictate texts and email, but I don't see the mic symbol on my input keyboard, and a cursory search of google nets results that point toward menu options that don't exist on my hero...
View 49 Replies View RelatedI recently bought a Hero to replace my BlackBerry Curve and it's a big improvement in most ways. I very much enjoy this device. One of the ways it's not an improvement, however, is this text prediction/replacement thing. I'm hoping I'm just using it wrong.
The Curve had a bunch of words set up (and the user could add more very easily if desired) such that typing "dont" followed by a space automatically changed it to "don't ". Very handy.
With the Hero's prediction turned on, "don't" is an option, but one of a few, so I have to actually tap it to replace what I typed, and then add a space afterwards. It's only a couple taps, I realize, but it happens all the time, and I thought the prediction was supposed to save taps and make things easier, and this "dictionary" the Hero adds to seems virtually useless.
I've also found that I'll type something and neither accept nor deny a suggested replacement, and it'll replace what I typed, sometimes with a rediculous word that even changed the first letter I typed! Very frustrating.
For now I've turned off the prediction option, but I like to type "properly" with punctuation and proper spelling, and adding apostrophes and other things isn't a quick process with this keyboard.
Is there a way to select text easier for example, when you select text on an iPod touch or an iPhone? Perhaps there is an app in the market?

A friend of mine just downloaded the HTC 2.1 update and I noticed that he does not have this option. Was this removed from the final upgrade or is there a way to add it on to a stock Hero?

View 11 Replies View RelatedI hate the lock screen on the Hero, I know their is a way to turn it off, but i don't like getting a message and then the phone doing something in my pocket. Is their a way to extract the .apk of the lock screen from the droid, and just install it on the hero, I understand that the resolution on the hero is different, but hate the current lock screen, i have to slide it down 2-3 times for it to recognize. I downloaded lock 2.0 already on the market, its not bad. but it takes 3-4 seconds on my phone to actually give me the slide to unlock screen.
