View 4 RepliesI am having a hard time deciding for my HTC Hero.
Google Voice
Pro's
Transcribed Voicemails (Usually not that good, but a neat feature to have)
Saved Voicemails that don't have to be deleted after a couple weeks
E-mail or SMS notifications (I don't use it, but my voicemail app doesn't do that)
Con's
Wastes battery with notifications and having to download Voicemails to listen to them.
Stock Voicemail Application
Pro's
Doesn't waste battery life for having notifications of a new voicemail.
Implemented into the phone automatically
Instant notification without wasting battery, etc.
Con's
Lacks a lot of features
Not useful at all.
I can disable Google Voice whenever, which isn't the problem. But, I am having a hard time deciding.
I have set up the Google Voice App to link to my Google voice account and I select the "ask to use google voice for each call" and the "always use google voice" options and neither work. There is no way to place calls within the app, and when I use the phone app nothing happens. I have no idea what to do. Figured out you can only do that using your contacts. Seems pretty limited, even the generic iphone app could dial direct. Oh well, maybe they will update in the future.

View 4 Replies View RelatedI can't get my EVO to use my google voice as my voicemail. I have everything set up correctly and have my voicemail assigned to google instead of sprint. When I try to activate my google on my phone by dialing the *28 and my number, it either gives my an error code or just rings. Does sprint allow google as your voicemail?
View 5 Replies View RelatedI can't access voicemail anymore. When I dial *86 it says invalid and when I try just 1 it asks for area code.

View 18 Replies View RelatedI got the Droid yesterday, and I'm trying to use Google Voice *just* for voicemail. However, it seems like I never get notifications about new voicemail, unless the app is open. Also, recorded voicemail is very soft when it's played back, almost too soft to hear.
View 12 Replies View RelatedI finally changed the voicemail system on my Hero from Sprint's "visual voicemail" (which is misleading because it doesn't transcribe voicemails) to Google Voice. It's nice to see my transcribed voicemails now. However, when I actually want to hear them (if the transcription didn't work well), it only comes through the external speaker; the speaker on the back of the phone. I went into Google Voice settings and under "Voicemail Playback" I tried the only two options: "Play via Handset" and "Play via Speaker." Unfortunately, both play through the speaker phone speaker. How do I change it to the phone speaker? I also can't adjust the volume, so the whole world hears my voicemails through the external speaker.
View 7 Replies View RelatedI rooted my sprint HTC hero and installed CM6 on it the other day, and everything is working great... except voicemail. I was using the Sprint VVM app, and that worked, but I got that annoying SMS message with each new voicemail, so I decided to switch to Google Voice (for voicemail only). It seems to work, except when my friends (who also have Sprint) call, and I don't answer the call, they either get a fast busy signal or they hear a voice say something like "Call cannot be completed. Goodbye" and then it hangs up.
Calling from land-lines and other cells seems to work ok? I just enabled Google Voice today, so do I need to wait a certain amount of time before it works Sprint to Sprint, or? Has anyone else seen this before? I should mention, it only happens on unanswered calls. If i dismiss the call before it's done ringing, it properly goes to google voicemail.
Is anyone else interested in how Google voice will affect calling minutes? If you currently have your GV number set to call your Sprint cell and your incoming call is from another cell phone will you be charged for the minutes? If you setup your phone so GV is used to call all numbers that you dial will you be charged for calling other cellular number because GV masks the number? I have been through every level of support that Sprint offers and no one can answer me. Sadly tier 3 technical support told me "Google Voice is useless on a cell phone and you would not want to use this anyway". I had nothing more to say after that!

View 4 Replies View RelatedI got an invite from our benevolent overload Google to try out their new google voice feature. I haven't set up anything yet, because 1. i dont know if I really need it 2. I am not sure 100% of what it does. Is anyone running GV currently for their HTC hero and if so, what is your take on the service? Thanks!
View 44 Replies View RelatedDoes anyone know if there is a widget for Google Voice that I can put on my Hero? I am using my goggle voice number to receive my text messages since I have so many texting issues, so I wanted a widget that could host my goggle voice texts.

View 4 Replies View RelatedI have a GV account that I don't really use much, but I am familiar with the system. I know they also offer just VM so you can keep your current cell #. What I want to know is, what do people think about the Sprint visual voicemail that comes on the Hero as it compares to google's VM. Besides transcription, are there any benefits? Are there any downsides?
View 3 Replies View RelatedCan someone tell me a definitive way to get an invite?
View 3 Replies View RelatedSince Google Voice Actions only runs on froyo, you'd think the Hero would be left out.
Try Vlingo, which, since the GVA announcement, is now free. It's pretty amazing. Not perfect, but very useful.
Vlingo can also be set to read your texts/emails to you (good for driving).
Calling someone using the dialer keypad will never route over Google Voice. Calling someone from the "People" application works fine. Of course I have GV enabled for all calls. Is this the way it is or is something messed up?
View 3 Replies View RelatedI downloaded and flashed Fresh 2.0d last night, and all looks good until I try to use Google Voice. I get an error message of - We have a problem, Your phone number could not be verified.
I tried it several times and no go. I then downloaded and older version of Google Voice and got it to recognize my phone, but it won't take messages for missed calls. I called my number, let it go to voicemail, and just get dead air.
Also, received an email from this morning from the Android Team at Google welcoming me and my new Nexus One. I have a Sprint Hero. What's that all about?
Maybe I missed the boat on this, but could someone tell me the benefits of using google voice on the HTC Hero?
View 1 Replies View RelatedJust got G-Voice and at this point, all I want to do is use it for visual voicemail. During setup, it asked me if I wanted to use my carrier's service or Google's service. I chose Google at which point I had to call a provided number that seems to initiate forwarding?
Anyway, just wondering what would happen if I choose Verizon's service instead of Google? Do you still get visual voicemail?
Searched for this but didn't find anything. I have my GV voicemail set up to go directly to my voicemail box (no pin) when dialing voicemail from my phone. I have everything configured correctly on the GV site and on my phone (dialed the *71GVNumber). When I call my voicemail it just rings and I have to press * to get to the PIN prompt. Is there something different about the Incredible that this doesn't work correctly? I had this correctly setup on my Storm2.
View 19 Replies View RelatedI use the Google Voice (GV) click to call (click-to-call / ctt) feature quite a bit. When it rings my phone, my OWN google voice number shows up in my phone's call log. Does anybody know if it is possible, or how, to get the click-to-call initiated calls to show up as the person that I was calling in my phone's call log?
View 2 Replies View RelatedMy wife and I both have Hero's and after the recent updates our phone takes forever to dial a number. It was bad before going to 2.1 but now it's terrible. It takes about 10 to 15 seconds to actually dial out. Any suggestions? We both have Google Voice but it dials slow regardless if we're using Google Voice or the standard dialer.
View 49 Replies View RelatedHow can I setup google Voice to be used just for Visual Voicemail? I know it can be done but not sure how to set it up or use it. I still want to use my Verizon phone number for eveything, just use GV for VV. Also I am with Verizon will this cost anymore?
View 20 Replies View RelatedFor my work voicemail, I have to call in.
I have it programmed in my contacts (or I did on my old BB) with the pauses and password pre-entered
However, with Google Voice, this doesn't work; when I have it programmed in, GV just calls my GV voicemail...
I can turn google voice off, or change it to 'ask every time', but really don't want to.....
So I set up Google Voice to be my voicemail provider on my phone.
Twice.
The first time I did it directly on the site and followed the instructions.....THEN I went to the phone and actually changed it in the Voicemail provider settings (there is a spot for it)
When called it still made me put in my voicemail #.
So I started the process over again.
This time I set up my verizon voice mail with the phone number and the ",****" for the pause and the password. Then i told it to use google voicemail.
Then I went into google voicemail and set up the phone again.
And....
Voila....it automatically puts in my password for me now. Although on the phone it doesn't show that its there at all.
There doesn't seem to be a reason to switch the setting on the phone as the voicemail indicator in "messages" doesn't change.....and also It doesn't seem to be able to set up the true visual voicemail through it.
You have to use the Google Voice app to get them and just search through your mails. (If anyone has a way around that one I'd be grateful - for both the message indicator and the visual voicemail)
I am currently using Google Voice for my Visual Voicemail. When someone leaves a voicemail, I get about 5 notification sounds in a row! It's so annoying. I bascially get a couple of email notifications, a message notification, etc. Is there a way where it only makes one notification sound and just shows that you have a new voicemail? I don't need a bunch of things going off at once.
View 5 Replies View RelatedSo I have had Google Voice for the past month or so. I have had several people call me and I let it go to Voicemail and then they later tell me that the voicemail wouldn't work for them. They say they don't get my message and instead get some form of automated message that cuts out about halfway through and then ends the call.
