I'm running fresh 2.3.3 and i updated the witless tether app while running through app updates? Is there an easy way to downgrade, and is downgrading it even necessary?

For some reason when I'm using the tethering software on my rooted (Modaco 3.0) Hero it only works as a 'computer to computer' network, and not ad-hoc. This then means I can't use the connection to access the internet.I'm sure I've had this working before. Any ideas what I'm doing wrong? I've looked through the Setup and there doesn't seem to be an option to choose between the two types.

I was having extremely slow speeds and was going to try disconnecting and reconnecting but as soon as I disconnected, my phone rebooted. Now, every time I go into the wireless tether for root users app, it force closes. What the Hell am I supposed to do? I need this to work.

View 3 Replies View RelatedI've got a Sprint Hero with Android 2.1 (.6 and not .5 as required for unrevoked). All I want is root access (no custom roms) for some applications (mainly WiFi tether). I'm a complete noob to rooting and what I gathered from the guides is that all data is erased. Is there any way (regardless of how complicated) such taht I don't lose any data/apps and just gain root access?

Wasn't sure if I was going to keep it (bought it dirt cheap so was maybe going to resell it) but after playing around with it I decided to keep it. Rooted it, flashed in custom cyanogen ROM...set it up just the way I wanted it, all before activating the phone. LOL
So as I'm sure many of you know, you can't activate with a custom ROM. From what I've read in other forums, rooting doesn't matter when activating, it's all about the ROM. So I'll have to flash back to stock 2.1 to activate this thing. I called Sprint and played dumb but there was no way they could activate it apparently. Well, technically the phone is "activated" but can not be "programmed" for use with a custom ROM.
So will the flashback to stock 2.1 de-root? Or can I just back up my current ROM, flash to stock 2.1, activate and then simply reload my custom ROM?
Let me start off by saying I did/still do have a nandroid and also a custom ROM zip on my SD. I used the ROM manager application to wipe data/cache, like I have done about 10 times this past week, and flashed a new ROM. So my phone reboots to recovery, "clockwork mod recovery", you have to use this recovery to use ROM manager, and instead of flashing the ROM, it gives me some error message. Now for anyone who isn't familiar with clockwork recovery, you can't flash a nandroid from it, you have to revert back to the stock recovery to flash a nandroid, or at least I do.
So now all I can do is reboot my hero which brings me back to stock 2.1 with no root access. Now I know what your thinking, "just flash your nandroid", but now I can't. To flash my nandroid I would have to reflash the stock recovery image through ROM manager, and now I'm stuck with the clockwork recovery image because ROM manager requires root to swap recoveries, and no ability to nandroid back to where I was before. Basically, unless there is a way to change my recovery back to stock without being rooted currently.
I went from a stock 1.5 to 2.1 using the Sprint 2.1 RUU and all is well. I understand it's a dev build and as such is already root but when I trying installing android-wifi-tether (both 2.0 and 1.6) it all looks well except when I touch the icon to start and it fails. The 1.6 version did report I didn't have root.
What do I need to do in ADB/shell to ensure the proper permissions are there for AWT? This is the last thing I want to get working and I'm happy.
Do I need to remount the filesystem as rw? Add superuser? Not sure what's needed.
I have a rooted hero on sprint with unlimited data but I found out that o can tether my xbox but , I worry now Sprint may catch on to my tethering and may surprise me with a high bill since I haven't paid for mobile hotspot Not that I wouldn't but it is not available with my phone . So should I worry ?
View 5 Replies View RelatedI just installed Fresh 2.1.1, and its running great with one exception. Wireless Tether, which is the reason I rooted in the first place, wont run. When I start the app it gives me a popup saying that root access is required. I have 2 options override and close. If I override and turn on the tether the screen goes black and says su permission at the top.

View 4 Replies View RelatedI tried searching but did not find anything to answer this question. I recently rooted my wife's hero so she could use wireless tether. Everything works great except that the phone discharges at an alarming rate. While plugged into the wall, it discharges faster than it can charge. Is this normal? I tried different cables/chargers but nothing seems to charge or keep the charge while wireless tether is on and being used. My evo easily handles the wireless tether and even charges up the phone while doing it. If this is normal for the Hero then I will not worry anymore about it. Will just tell her to use the wireless tether in 1-2 hours times to avoid draining her phone all the way.

I just installed the official 2.1 version from Sprint. For some reason Easy Tether is no longer working on 2.1, but PDANet works. Anyone else having the same problem?

View 22 Replies View RelatedI've been using Fresh 2.3.3, and everything is working great. However, Wireless Tether won't start. Whenever I use it - it force closes. This is actually the first time I think I've tried it. I don't remember ever using it on the earlier version of Fresh rom I had.
This only seems to happen when trying to connect through bluetooth. I can start the program, access the menu and settings and all of that - but as soon as I press on the big green wi-fi icon to start tethering - it force closes. The USB mode seems to work fine... but I need to use bluetooth mode.
I can connect my PC to the wifi tether system but the internet only worked twice (no idea why). I tried uninstalling/reinstalling several times, tried changing encryption status but nothing seemed to make a difference. If anyone has any thoughts that may help I'd be glad to hear them.

View 7 Replies View RelatedI installed fresh-cdma-hero-2.0b2. Wireless tether for remote users is not working for me. I would like to use this program. I am able to get the laptop to see and connect to the phone. But the laptop cannot ping or browse out to the internet. I have security disabled (WEP) as I read that it doesnt work. I have tried it with access control on and off to no resolution. I have tried it in Windows and in OSX without any luck. Could someone tell me what the trick is? I tried with what the Fresh image came with which I think is wireless_tether_2_0-pre7.apk and I also downloaded and tried pre8. I've searched multiple forums over the last 3 days but haven't found any solid solutions at all.
