Sprint HTC Hero :: How To Prevent Dust Getting Under Screen?
Jan 23, 2010
I'm not buying my phone from Sprint, so I doubt they would exchange it if I got dust under the screen. Is it easy to pop the phone open and hit it with a blast of compressed air if need be? Also, what's the best case for preventing dust? I know the Otterbox cases are fantastic at this, but they don't seem to support the Hero. Also, is Android 1.6 available for the Hero?

I currently am having a build-up of dust underneath the outerscreen. I did see this thread (Dis-assembly), however I am wanting to stay away from that. Is there a good way to remove screen with an air duster? Using a specific method? I will be heading into the Sprint Store tomorrow to see what all they can do, but I don't really want to have to re-root my phone again, especially if I get a phone that may already be setup to not be rooted (New firmware/software package) perhaps.

Does anyone else notice any dust under the keypad? If you lock the phone so the screen so it is dark and then look towards the edges of the glass in direct light do you see the dust? I am wonder how bad this is going to build up over time? Outdoor in the sunlight makes it very easy to see. It has only been a week and mine is very visible.

I returned my HTC hero after a week because it had a dead pixel, but I also noticed dust under the lower portion of the screen right above the buttons on bottom. I use a otterbox commuter case while has covers for the dock and head phone jack, so Im assuming the dust came in between the buttons and the bottom of the screen.

When I sync my Sprint HTC Hero with Windows Vista (using HTC Sync version 2.0.8), I get the following error message: "The application com.android.providers.calendar (process com.htc.calendar) has stopped unexpectedly. Please try again." I also get this message occasionally when I'm not syncing. It doesn't seem to prevent my Hero from syncing new calendar events, but the error message is annoying. Anyone have an idea why I'm getting it and what I can do about it?

How can I prevent Sprint Navigation from running in the background all the time? Every time I go on the market, browser, check my email, or send a text, Sprint Navigation is shown running in all of my 3rd party app managers. I have task killer so I can kill it as I please, however I would like to completely prevent it from starting up when i'm not even using it. Any ideas on how I can accomplish this?

I have just noticed that there is a lot of dust under the screen on my phone, ive had it about 10 days now and it lives either in my pocket or on the desk. Has anyone else had this on the desire yet? Should I try to take off the glass front or try to use the one months free insurance (which is probably worthless) that Vodafone made me have?

I have received three Desires and all have had dust under the screen. It's white and almost looks like a tiny hair. You really have to look to notice it, but once you know it's there it is rather annoying. I just wanted to see how many suffer from this problem on their Desire. In order to check properly, your phone needs to be off or in standby mode. Wipe away all excess dust on the screen and look very carefully. Post your findings in this thread and vote in the poll. Feel free to post information about how long you have had your phone, if it's built up over time, was present as soon as you took it out of the box, your location and network.

I've had my Inc since near the beginning (AMOLED), and just recently noticed a speck of dust under the screen. Nothing major, but a bit annoying when you're OCD like me. I bought it from Best Buy originally. Is this a pretty standard issue for the Inc, and most large screened smartphones for that matter? Is it worth taking in?? Will the problem just get worse, or is it an inevitable thing?

There are now two dust specs on the left side of the screen; one on top, and one on the bottom. Has anyone else seen this? Does anyone have any suggestions as to what I should do about this? It seems silly to return the phone and get a new one for something so simple, but if it becomes a large problem, it will not be something I am willing to live with.

i was cleaning my screen when I noticed some dust on the top left corner of the screen. I don't have a case on but man, i've only had this phone for like 2 weeks. Anyone else having this issue and how did you deal with it? I'm thinking about bringing it into the Sprint store and hopefully, they can clean it out.

I don't even think I am gonna bother with all the crap I went through last time, but I wanted to see if anyone else was seeing dust under there screens? My hero was horrible, had the evo for about a week and sure enough dust is accumulating in the upper right. I don't understand how HTC cannot put together a phone to keep dust out yet they can fit amazing hardware into the thing. I never ever had this problem with any of my old phones (besides the hero)
Yeah I could exchange it, get another which will prob accumulate dust. Or call HTC and send it in for another 3 weeks. But I just feel after all the problems the hero had with dust they might concentrate on sealing it properly. I know some people think this is being too picky. But a 600 dollar device should not show dust less than a week after owning. Sadly, I'm just not that surprised..

Some users are reporting that they have dust under their screen. Hopefully it was a manufacturing error and didn't get in there post assembly. However recent reports of other users saying water freely got under their screen when they installed a screen or body shield have me concerned. Is there a reasonable way to absolutely and definitively seal the area around the screen to prevent dust entry? It would have to be invisible to the eye for it to be feasible. I was thinking that a black thread inserted in the gap might act like a gasket and completely eliminate the possibility of dust entry. I don't know if this is even possible to do and I am too chicken to attempt it. But if it worked it would be removable too. Any thoughts on this or other ideas?

My 30 days is up in the next few days, and I have some dust under the screen. Now this is really the only problem I have with my droid, so I was wondering if its even worth exchaning for another one or will it just happen again as long as its pocketed? Did motorola fix this problem by chance with newer models?

My droid is in the 3909 batch, and so far I've had no software problems. However, there are now a few pieces of dust that have found their way under the screen, around the edges. I keep my phone in my pocket, which I make sure I clean out every day. Is this normal, or is it something that I should exchange the phone for? I'm worried that if it's happened within the first week, it will continue to get worse.

So I have seen several people complain about the dust under the screen issue. Some people have it....some don't. I thought I would share some pictures of how bad mine has become. I carry this phone in the OEM Holster, and take extremely good care of it. However.....you can see how it's annoying the heck out of me......

There is a spec of dust along the left side of the screen about 1" up. Its definatly under the glass and annoying as shit. Also the metal on the frame is so dense that it has 3 small and i mean SMALL pits in the metal.... How is this even possible? I use my iPhone as a coaster for the Droid and it sits in my pocket glass out... They are definatly pitted indentions in the metal as you can run your fingernail across them and feel it. Any ideas if I can go into verizon store to get a replacement for the spec under the glass? I bought it online launch day and have only had it since monday.

note: this is an artist rendition because my digital camera is terrible and i couldn't figure out how to get the dust in the shot. but it looks just like this. it's a black speck under the screen that can only be seen on bright surfaces and only if you are looking at the screen head on. i'm not sure if it might be a dead pixel. i can certainly live with this problem although i'd prefer if it wasn't there.
1. is this a dead pixel or dust?
2. how do i fix this, can i just exchange it at the vzw store whenever they stop being sold out?

After having my Desire for no more than 2 weeks, I started to get dust under the screen on the left hand side about half way up. Though frustrating as my phone is never out of some sort of case, it is not too bad, doesn?t affect the phone in anyway and you can only really see it when the screen is off. I have been to my local T-Mobile shop and they have said they will happily send it off to be cleaned but to wait until it gets worse as I will be without my phone for a couple of weeks.

I too have dust under the screen of my Evo like some other users on the forums. Almost in the same places too. Upper left hand corner of the screen. Has anyone taken their Evo back because of this issue? I hate to be a nit picky costumer and take it back due to this issue but because I notice it all the time now it's starting to bother me. I bought it at Best Buy so I'm sure they won't have any in stock if I try to return it anytime soon.
