View 9 RepliesLet me start by saying I am new to this so there is probably a really easy fix...here it goes
I am trying to root my Hero by following the guides that are provided in this forum. When I enter the following command I am getting an error.
C:android-sdk-windows ools>adb devices
'adb' is not a recognized as an internal or external command, operable program or batch file
I am sure I am doing something wrong. Any suggestions would be helpful. I did download the .6 update and reverted back to the .5 version.
I have tried rooting using both the Regaw method and using the writeup from CCapasso. Using the Regaw method after Step 3 I get the error msg "cannot stat 'unrevoked': No such file or directory. Using the CCappasso method after Step 6 I get the msg: [1]killed/data/local/asroot2/system/bin/sh.
I have downloaded the files and have them in C: drive
I have turned on debugging
I have unmounted the SD card
I have installed HTC Sync
I have phone on "charge only" when hooked to the computer
I am trying to route my HTC Hero (locked to Orange UK).Following jUsT2eXy's instructions :-
1)Download it.
2)Save it to your SD Card ROOT (not in any folders)
3)Open up a file manager on your phone (Download ASTRO File Manager from the marketplace..if you don't have a file manager..)
4)Find the 'InstantRoot.apk' file.
5)Run it.
6)It will say it's been successful
Ok, so on step 4, I am opening ASTRO, clicking InstantRoot, clicking Open App Manager (other displayed option is Browse file), clicking Install (then Install again). It then displays 'Application installed'. However, I get a notification stating 'Install Root failed / Root access was not acquired'. What am I doing wrong? More info if required Firmware = 1.5

I went to best buy to exchange my evo cause of some minor issues. It had the new ota update installed so I thought it was a pain in the butt to root it. So I got the new evo and I checked the software number and I have 1.32.651.6. Is it easier to update this phone to the new ota and use the simple root method over in xda or do it manually using the 1.32.651.6?

View 1 Replies View RelatedI'm looking for advice on the simplest and easiest way to root. I know theres something that wipes the phone, rolls back to 2.1 and then roots it. I just got my second eEo because my first overheats. It came with 2.2, is that an issue? What do I need to know about ROMs? I hear fresh evo is a good one. I don't mind losing all the sprint stuff as well as HTC. I prefer launcher pro so any widget loss doesn't bother me. I heard about the method to rollback 2.2, root it then whatever, but everywhere I found today from that day says that a simpler method should be out in a couple weeks. It has been a month, is there a simple point and click method yet?
View 5 Replies View Relatedi've tried out all the radios to test out which is the best for me..and i devided on the one that was based off the verizon radio..so i got an error message saying "You must be a Sprint Customer to use this feature" so i changed to the newest radio out 2.42.01.04.27 and i still get the same issue..what could it be?
View 1 Replies View Relatedhave leak #3 and I got the OTA update a few days ago.I would like to go to ROOT.using EvilEris 3.0 I'm seeing all sorts of ways to do this..and looking for the simpilist fastest way.I'm familiar with the "put a file in the root of the SD card" and re-boot method. Is that the easiest way to get going? If so - what file do I need? "EvilEris3.0.zip" or "PB00IMG.zip" (and if so - do I need a "latest" one)?
View 1 Replies View RelatedWell, upon attempting to read as much as possible before taking the plunge, I've run across a few methods to accomplish the same thing. I'm currently running 2.1 OTA(stock) and wanted the most basic way to root with the least chance of bricking.
I've gone through the guides, but have also run into DroidMod's guide on flashing 2.1 with recovery.
RSD is a little intimidating to me and I'm afraid if I breathe wrong on the phone, it will become a paperweight.
Is using RSD the only/easiest way to gain root? Sorry for the redundant question, however there are a few threads on this topic and dated within a few months of one another and I'm which route to take.
I need the easiest route to root an HTC incredible. I'm not a technical expert.

View 6 Replies View RelatedJust plucked up the courage to root my Desire. And now want to have a go at installing Froyo and looking for the easiest way. I've looked at ROM Manager and was wondering if its worth getting the paid version as it says you can get all the popular ROMs downloaded to your phone. Was wondering how good this app is and if anyone has had problems with getting the ROMs.
View 11 Replies View RelatedIf this has been asked I cannot find it. What is the easiest, quickest method for root right now? There seems to be a new method being developed every week. I know there are basebands available to load that will help with the signal issues. Are there fixes with root that will resolve the audio issue with Pandora?
View 8 Replies View RelatedSo I finally got the 2.0 root off that the guy before me had this phone on. He rooted it with droid mod, and that seemed pretty easy to use. I'm wondering and if there is someone who has more experience with this than I what is the easiest way for me to root my stock 2.1 droid?
View 9 Replies View RelatedI recently rooted my phone and was wondering how to install custom themes and lock screens for my hero. I am new to this as the title implies, so a link/instructions on how to install/create these would be what I'm looking for. I also am looking for solutions that do not need to install a new ROM as I just want to mod the current one that I have since i haven't found one I like. I rooted the 2.27.651.5 official sprint software with the instructions from the xda forum here: [GUIDE] How to Root Sprint 2.1 Release for CDMA Hero - xda-developers.

View 5 Replies View RelatedRooting Android 1.5 on the Sprint Hero. Rooting 2.1 can be found HERE. Manually rooting your phone: This section will cover how to manually root your phone. Keep in mind there is a one-click method, but reading this is helpful and educational. You do not have to do it this way, but I suggest at least reading though it. The following was taken from here: Before We Begin, here is a video on doing this manually:You Tube - How To Root The Sprint CDMA Hero.

View 4 Replies View RelatedI recently installed the new security patch that came out around the release of the EVO because I was unaware of what it entailed. However this battery life problem has become sickening and I would really love to root my phone and get rid of all this sprint trash on my phone.
View 3 Replies View RelatedWith a free sunday at my disposal, i thought i would try and sort my hero out as it has become super-laggy after the OTA 2.1 update (HTC hero locked to 3UK network, previously had 1.5).
So i've been trying to read as much as i can on this and other forums and got as far as installing Universal Androot, which reported success in rooting the phone.
However have now installed (and bought PRO ver) of Titanium Backup which refuses to recognize the root. It returns:
ERROR: Sorry, I could not acquire root privileges. This application will *not* work! Please verify that your ROM is rooted and includes BusyBox, and try again.
Yet, TB is listed as 'allowed' under SuperUser Permissions. And even weirder when the error dialogue box comes up sometimes a strapline flashes briefly across the screen 'Titanium backup has been granted .. permissions'. I take it that this is Superuser informing me.
So why doesn't Titanium recognize the root? Have tried re-starting and rerunning Androot (which reports that phone is already rooted, do you still wish to proceed). It's almost as if superuser isn't giving the OK fast enough or something.
Obviously don't want to start messing around with ROMs if i can't first backup my data!
Does anyone know if the upcoming Android 2.1 update to the Sprint Hero will allow us to save apps to the SD card without having to root the phone? And also, some things to think about: remember that the Hero only runs class 2 speeds, even if the card is class 6. Do you think this will change once we receive Android 2.1? Because if not, I would imagine that the phone would be slow opening apps (assuming apps to SD will be available).I know that if they do program the Hero to allow class 6 speeds, and allow apps to SD (without root) then the Hero could run MUCH faster than it does now.
View 2 Replies View RelatedI am new to all the rooting your phone stuff. So i was just wondering why i should root my Sprint Hero. I know that an ipod can be jail broken ... is it the same or different than that? and i was wondering how hard it is to root a phone and get live wallpapers and stuff.

Okay so i did the the unrevoked method of rooting my htc hero and it worked fine for a couple months however one morning my phone reset it self and the superuser permissions icon in the apps tray was gone. I tried running through the steps to root it again (How to root your CDMA HTC HERO running Android 2.1 (Windows) | MacHackPC) but the superuser icon never came back. I'm not sure what to do, I even tried pressing the on button and the home to select flash from recovery and that didn't work either. any idea how i can get my phone re-rooted?
View 4 Replies View RelatedI've had my Sprint Hero for around 4 months now, it is not rooted, running stock 1.5.I was trying to check the marketplace for any updates to my apps and it brought me to the set up google account screen.I've tried signing in and It tells me that there was an error on sign in and my SIM card might not be provisioned for data. Obviously as a Sprint customer I don't have a SIM card, is there anything I can do to get things working again?
View 5 Replies View RelatedI just got my Hero two days ago. I was told to make sure there were to firmware or PRL updates. The Firmware said it was up to date. I tried the PRL update this morning and it said it could not be done now to try later. If problem persists contact Sprint. Error code 1012. I am not sure what PRL even is and does this sound like a problem on Sprint's end or my phone? Sorry for the dumb question, I am new to all this technology.
View 10 Replies View RelatedI am having a problem with my voicemail, not sure if it is related to my phone or not.
If my phone rings, and I ignore or miss the call, the caller will hear a recorded voice say "The number or code you have entered is incorrect, please check the number or code and try again. Message 7, Switch .."
BUT, if the phone never rings (like it cannot connect b/c of no service or in data and call never comes thru) then the caller is forwarded to my voicemail, can leave a message, and it comes thru on visual voicemail.
I have uninstalled/reinstalled the voicemail app, no such luck. I think this may be a Sprint-side problem.
