Well, upon attempting to read as much as possible before taking the plunge, I've run across a few methods to accomplish the same thing. I'm currently running 2.1 OTA(stock) and wanted the most basic way to root with the least chance of bricking.
I've gone through the guides, but have also run into DroidMod's guide on flashing 2.1 with recovery.
RSD is a little intimidating to me and I'm afraid if I breathe wrong on the phone, it will become a paperweight.
Is using RSD the only/easiest way to gain root? Sorry for the redundant question, however there are a few threads on this topic and dated within a few months of one another and I'm which route to take.
If this has been asked I cannot find it. What is the easiest, quickest method for root right now? There seems to be a new method being developed every week. I know there are basebands available to load that will help with the signal issues. Are there fixes with root that will resolve the audio issue with Pandora?

I'm wondering and if there is someone who has more experience with this than I what is the easiest way for me to root my stock 2.1 droid?
View 9 Replies View RelatedI went to best buy to exchange my evo cause of some minor issues. It had the new ota update installed so I thought it was a pain in the butt to root it. So I got the new evo and I checked the software number and I have 1.32.651.6. Is it easier to update this phone to the new ota and use the simple root method over in xda or do it manually using the 1.32.651.6?
View 3 Replies View RelatedI'm looking for advice on the simplest and easiest way to root. I know theres something that wipes the phone, rolls back to 2.1 and then roots it. I just got my second eEo because my first overheats. It came with 2.2, is that an issue? What do I need to know about ROMs? I hear fresh evo is a good one. I don't mind losing all the sprint stuff as well as HTC. I prefer launcher pro so any widget loss doesn't bother me. I heard about the method to rollback 2.2, root it then whatever, but everywhere I found today from that day says that a simpler method should be out in a couple weeks. It has been a month, is there a simple point and click method yet?
View 5 Replies View Relatedhave leak #3 and I got the OTA update a few days ago.I would like to go to ROOT.using EvilEris 3.0 I'm seeing all sorts of ways to do this..and looking for the simpilist fastest way.I'm familiar with the "put a file in the root of the SD card" and re-boot method. Is that the easiest way to get going? If so - what file do I need? "EvilEris3.0.zip" or "PB00IMG.zip" (and if so - do I need a "latest" one)?

I've looked at ROM Manager and was wondering if its worth getting the paid version as it says you can get all the popular ROMs downloaded to your phone. Was wondering how good this app is and if anyone has had problems with getting the ROMs.

View 5 Replies View RelatedI want to find an easy way to just have the phone silent except SMS messages while I'm sleeping. I have tried different profile applications but it looks like they just generically turn off "notifications" which looks like both email and SMS notifications. I know I can go in and manually silence the email and the other notifications each time but I wanted to find an easier way. I get important SMS messages from work at all hours but thats all I want to hear.

View 4 Replies View RelatedLike many, my DroidX is ordered and on the way. I would like some input from those of you who have already gone from the Droid to the DroidX about the easiest way to transition apps, contacts, and anything else. I'm not really expecting it to be difficult. I have a rooted Droid, Titanium Backup (which probably won't help), AppBrain (which I hope will) and all my contacts are in my Google account. I'm just looking for things to watch out for and ways to make it easy.

Motorola Droid - Original
1. Rooted 2.1, then
2. OTA Stock Update to 2.2, then
3. Seem to have lost root, However - I still have the Superuser Permissions Icon.
I use Barnacle for WiFi Tether - I get a "Permission Denied" error when I try to start the application. I also went into the terminal emulator and tried an "su" which also gave a permission denied response. I tried "sudo" and also got permission denied response. Others have told me this is common with this progression of events. However, How do I now ROOT 2.2 in this scenario?
I just rooted my stock froyo with it! If this has already been discussed.
View 42 Replies View RelatedI used DroidMod to root when I had 2.01. When 2.1 became available, I "un-rooted" then forced update to 2.1. Well to be honest, it is really slow and laggy. I now want to go back to DroidMod, but nothing I have tried seems to work.

View 11 Replies View RelatedI'm trying to gain root and having some problems...
I had my droid rooted for some time, running droid mod 1.0. All was well until recently the battery life turned to shit (followed all guides to resolve recent OTA update issues, but still shitty.) Because of this, I decided I would go back to stock, since I couldn't justify the rom's features if the battery would kick out after 16 hours. So I returned to stock no problem and received the OTA to upgrade to 2.1.
After getting the upgrade to 2.1, I wanted to at least have root access to run a few programs. I followed this guide:
http://androidforums.com/all-things-root-droid/63010-how-install-sprecovery-unrooted-2-1-ota.html
to get SPRecovery back on my phone. Everything went well, it all checked out. After that I used SPRecovery to install the root update.zip. This worked fine, the root access app is in my tray and everything seems to be fine... HOWEVER when opening programs that require root access (setcpu and adfree are the ones I've tried) they say I don't have root access. I have tried reinstalling the update.zip file to no luck. USB debugging is ON. Is there a special update.zip to gain root on 2.1 (I saw no posts about that)? Is there some setting I missed this time around that I didn't the first time I rooted?
I've got plenty of music on my computer as well as pictures that I'd like to put on my Droid. What's the easiest way to do this? Also, if I don't have one of the ringo type apps can I use these songs as ringtones for specific contacts?
