Sprint HTC Hero :: Calls Being Sent To Voicemail
Apr 13, 2010
Although there are a few threads about calls going straight to voice mail in other phone sections, I have yet to see one here. From what I read, there isn't a solution, but I still want to ask being that it is now happening to my Sprint Hero. Anyone know what causes it, or if there is a setting one can change to stop it.

Does anyone know of a setting that will send calls to voice mail automatically but still allow the phone to function normally otherwise?I use an application that needs to still have GPS functionality and network access (so Airplane Mode wouldn't work ).Can anyone direct me here?

All incoming calls go directly to voicemail when I am listening to music on my Hero. Is there a setting I haven't found to address this? Or an app?

I'm finding it extremelly annoying that some calls are going straight to voicemail. When I'm at work I have a full strength signal, the phone sits on my desk all day but for some unknown reason, some calls go straight to voicemail.

I have used my Hero in 2 different countries and I get the same problem: Regardless of signal connection, I miss half (a guess) of all calls made to me. People tell me it finally dials after a few straight-to-voicemail tries. This didn't happen with any of my previous phones (Nokias and Motos), in both of the aforementioned countries. I really hope my rubber case has all to do with this because I bought the phone from eBay (i.e. no warranty).

OK, so one of my most hated issues has just arisen with my hero:
It's sat on my desk, enjoying full signal. All of a sudden it chimes up that it's got a new voicemail. No missed calls, no nothing, just a voicemail.
I HATE THAT! Can't decide whether to scream at orange or whether to scream at HTC.

I have read a couple of threads that touched on this ring issue, but was unable to find any that had a solution or work around.Since the 2.1 update and the OTA update, many times when an incoming call comes, the phone doesn't ring. If I happen to be in front of the phone, I can see the screen change showing an incoming call.If I am listening to Pandora Radio, when the phone rings, Pandora stops, but the phone never rings. If I am not near or looking at the phone this results in missing the call.If I shut off the phone and re-boot it appears to ring fine, but at some point later in the day or week it will quit ringing.I normally never turn off the phone. Should I start to re-boot every day?

I rooted my sprint HTC hero and installed CM6 on it the other day, and everything is working great... except voicemail. I was using the Sprint VVM app, and that worked, but I got that annoying SMS message with each new voicemail, so I decided to switch to Google Voice (for voicemail only). It seems to work, except when my friends (who also have Sprint) call, and I don't answer the call, they either get a fast busy signal or they hear a voice say something like "Call cannot be completed. Goodbye" and then it hangs up.
Calling from land-lines and other cells seems to work ok? I just enabled Google Voice today, so do I need to wait a certain amount of time before it works Sprint to Sprint, or? Has anyone else seen this before? I should mention, it only happens on unanswered calls. If i dismiss the call before it's done ringing, it properly goes to google voicemail.

As a Sprint Hero user, could I download any of the free voicemail apps to use with the hero? Are there any better ones than the preinstalled voicemail app? Is there any setup involved or do you just download any voicemail app, disable the built in one and you're ready to go?

Is there a way we can we use the old, automated sprint voicemail recording of "you've reached the sprint voice mailbox of ###-###-####" on the Hero? I don't particularly like that I had to record my own voicemail mailbox greeting when I setup the phone and rather have the basic sprint recording that I've had on every other sprint phone I've ever owned.

This isn't on par with the sidekick loss of data, but unknowingly missing text messages (across the board it seems) and unknowingly missing voicemails (less common, but still prevalent it seems) is a BIG DEAL. Even after I presumably fixed both text and voicemail issues, tested to confirm on both, I was surprised to find a few hours later that neither were working again! And I've not come close to toughing the 40MB limit Sprint is mentioning. I've had 100MB free on my phone the whole time. That's just unacceptable and means to me that some element of this product was released irresponsibly into the free market before it was ready. If there are fatal flaws associated with the use of task killers, or other 3rd party apps, this needs to be understood and communicated to the consumer.
As much as I LOVE Sense UI and the Hero in general, I'm porting back to my month-to-month Verizon plan to wait out the storm. Losing basic, critical phone functionality is NOT an option for me.
That's a real bummer for me because the Hero is *easily* my favorite phone on the market. Sense UI is forward looking, and I believe a bar-raiser for other companies, Apple included. But as much as I hate to give it up, it does sort of feel good to be back on the sidelines again, free to jump on the Passion (Dragon) or the like in the near future.

Here is the link to the original post. SMS ISSUES!! (HTC Is Working On A Fix!) - SprintUsers.com Please watch for any ROM memory leaks that some of us are experiencing as this could render your phone unable to receive sms or voicemail notifications. See here: Low on spaceTo check your ROM space go to SD & phone storage in your settings menu. By the way even though the official HTC Issue does not include voicemail I have added it because it was my personal experience that this effects voicemail as well. I believe it is pushed the same way as sms/mms.
Issue Title:
HTC Hero (A6277) - Unable to receive SMS, cannot be resolved via Hard Reset
Posted Date:
10/26/2009
Issue Type:
Known Issue
Description:
An issue has been identified where the Hero by HTC may enter a state where the device is unable to receive SMS and cannot be resolved thru standard troubleshooting up to and including a Hard Reset, ##786, and software reflash.
Action: Policy Exchange
When the device runs out of available memory a system flag is set indicating that there is no memory available to receive incoming messages. The device requests a retry, and the network will continue resending for 72 hours. Currently there is no field accessible method available to bring a device out of this state, however HTC is working to develop both a short and long term solution that will be communicated when available.
The best method of prevention currently is to ensure adequate memory is available on the device to prevent the flag from being set.
If the this issue is encountered, follow the steps below:
Back up all customer data from the device.
Power the device off.
Hold the Home and Back buttons then press the End/Power button.
Follow the on screen prompt to clear all user data.
One the reset is complete, test the ability for the device to receive SMS. This can be done by sending a test message then confirming it has been received via the SMS network tool (Intercarrier/Metcalf/ICSMS).
If the issue persists, exchange the device and return the unit via the EFFA process until this article is updated with a solution.
We are investigating an additional issue that may cause devices to intermittantly receive an SMS but not display the message to the user. This issue is distinguished from the above in that it is resolved by a soft or hard reset. No exchange is neccesary for the intermittant unable to receive SMS issue, we will post an additional KI when a solution is available.

I cannot get my Hero to give me notifications that I have Voicemails to listen too. I just got this thing a week ago and was beginning to wonder why I hadn't gotten a voicemail in that long since I don't answer every call. Well last night I discovered that I had a bunch of them but it's not letting me know. I did the setup like it instructed when I got the phone. Anyone else ever have this problem and if so, how did you fix it? Thanks.

I just received a mandatory update for my Visual Voicemail app. It downloaded and installed without a problem. I think I had read about this update somewhere a few days ago. It kept on shilling an add-on service from Sprint for voicemail to text transcription service. I do not mind being asked once about a service because I can just decline. However, this advertisement insists on on rearing its ugly head every time you restart your handset and go to use the Visual Voicemail app again.

I am having a hard time deciding for my HTC Hero.
Google Voice
Pro's
Transcribed Voicemails (Usually not that good, but a neat feature to have)
Saved Voicemails that don't have to be deleted after a couple weeks
E-mail or SMS notifications (I don't use it, but my voicemail app doesn't do that)
Con's
Wastes battery with notifications and having to download Voicemails to listen to them.
Stock Voicemail Application
Pro's
Doesn't waste battery life for having notifications of a new voicemail.
Implemented into the phone automatically
Instant notification without wasting battery, etc.
Con's
Lacks a lot of features
Not useful at all.
I can disable Google Voice whenever, which isn't the problem. But, I am having a hard time deciding.

So I upgraded to zenexp and now I don't have visual voice mail. I do have a google voice account though, so I downloaded the program. Am I missing something or can I only use the google visual voice mail with my google #? I cannot seem to figure out how to pick up my voice mail when people call my cell phone.

I am having a problem with my voicemail, not sure if it is related to my phone or not.
If my phone rings, and I ignore or miss the call, the caller will hear a recorded voice say "The number or code you have entered is incorrect, please check the number or code and try again. Message 7, Switch .."
BUT, if the phone never rings (like it cannot connect b/c of no service or in data and call never comes thru) then the caller is forwarded to my voicemail, can leave a message, and it comes thru on visual voicemail.
I have uninstalled/reinstalled the voicemail app, no such luck. I think this may be a Sprint-side problem.

I've been away from a rooted phone a few months and I recently rooted my phone again and I have the Purple glass theme [ROM] (UPDATED 16-NOV) FroYo 2.2 - CM6 Extremely Blue, BlackMod, Red, Purple, Vanilla - xda-developers
I've flashed gapps, and vvm and gapps is working great, vvm not so much.. am I doing something wrong? I've gotten 4 texts to tell me I have voicemail but I'm not able to get them w/vvm. I love this theme and I don't want to have to change it due to vvm problems!

Since upgrading to 2.1, I've been receiving a text alert for every voicemail I get. I've black listed these messages in the past. Since the update, the text alert comes from the individual. If I black list it, I don't get any text from that person.

I just discovered this today, and it has been mentioned in part before but I thought I'd share myself because it is an extremely useful feature, not to mention i had seen posts in the past that claimed this was not possible.Any app that produces sound, be it NAV, Voicemail or the music player can stream through your BT earpiece. I discovered it when my phone pocket dialed a strange combination of '?9797**' I have no idea how to reproduce a '?'After some reading I found that ** or p (pause?) will open the BT connection. The easiest way to enable it is to save a call contact shortcut of 'p' on the home screen. Just hit that icon prior to using whatever app you want and it will play through the earpiece. Hit the icon again to close the connection so you dont run into battery issue.Note you can dial ** to achieve the same (which will change into a p) however it will not work if you create a contact with **, you must create it with a p

Recently my Phonefusion voicemail stopped working. I don't think that it's related to the 2.1 update, because it was working fine until a few days ago. It seems that when people call me, after 4 or 5 rings, it goes to voicemail, but my voicemail greeting does not come on, and therefore people are not aware that their call is in voicemail. They just think that I've picked up. And then when I try to retrieve/listen to my voicemail, there is just this buzzing sound.

I swear I saw this as an option on my stock Hero.
I can't find it with the Voicemail app on the Fresh v1.1 rom.
Am I missing something? Did I just imagine it? If so, is there any app that can do this?

I have had the Hero for three weeks or so. After updating the visual voicemail after the initial purchase. Everything was fine until I received a text a week ago informing me that X sent me a voice SMS message and I had to call 408.970.0000 to listen. There was no notification on the visual voicemail native app that anyone had called me. Upon calling this number, I had four voicemails from the preceding few days that I never got. As of today, 11/15, according to the native voicemail app, I haven't received a VM since 11/4. In actuality, I've received many.
After calling sprint and explaining this to them and having "tech" support tell me to "disable WiFi to get my voicemails (!?)", I went to the sprint store. Several call to their support and their own tinkering resolved nothing but an overnight ship of a new Hero due tomorrow. Now, I do have handcent installed after having awake/up time issues (see other posts) with the native message app. Could this be somehow related?

When I receive a voice mail, it shows up in the visual voice mail application like it always does. Everything is normal EXCEPT ... When I play the voice mail I hear nothing. The time bar moves as it is playing, but nothing can be heard. This has been happening for the past 3 days. I then have to access my VMs through the traditional "Dial #1" portal. I love visual VM though, and would like to fix this. Does anyone know what the problem might be and/or have had this problem before?
Note: I am not using a task killer, and I don't even have one downloaded on my UNROOTED Hero.
