Oct 14, 2009I just got my Samsung i7500 and the Android Market is missing from my phone. What do I do to get it? Android was the main reason I bought this phone.

View 49 RepliesI don't have many paid apps; I use the Hero-a-like Pure Grid Calendar Widget and a remote recorder app for Sky TV called Record It, and that's about it.
Since upgrading to 1.6, I can't seem to download Record It, it doesn't appear on the market. I thought at first this was the old "apps not appearing on market" issue, but as far as I can tell all the other usual suspects are appearing correctly.
What gives here, what am I missing? Is it related to the above issue, or has the app been pulled from the market (anyone use it who can confirm?) Or is there something else "special" about this app that means it doesn't appear when everything else seems to?
I have a Samsung i5700 (Galaxy Portal here in UK) on Three, Android 2.1 (not rooted).
Problem: I get the normal notification of an SMS in the status bar, but when I go to "Messaging" (the default SMS client - no Handcent or other installed), the SMS is not there.
I have deleted several large SMS threads in case this is a memory issue.
I'm new to this, but when I look in Market I sometimes can't find certain apps. Was just looking for Where (where.com) a good travel app and it's not in there. Also when I install Yelp, it installs but immediately closes when I try to launch.
Is this a canada thing or what? Is the firmware so old that these phones are useless?

The Samsung i7500 Galaxy is, except the support from Samsung itself, a great Android smartphone with a very good (the best?) price for value. It's with 11,9mm the second slimmest Android phone after Nexus One with 11,5mm (right?) and has unlike the HTC phones a flash light and build in storage of 8GB. On most sites the Galaxy is (one of) the cheapest Android phones, I wonder if it's because Samsung is cheaper or HTC/Motorola more expensive by itself?
I personally would compare the i7500 with the HTC Hero, although in my opinion the i7500 still has a much better price for value.
Is it even possible to define if and which Android phone is a low, middle, or high-end smartphone?
Sure, it also depends for what purposes you bought and use your phone, but I still wonder were the i7500 would be if 1=low and 10=high end Android phone, and if there even is a number 10? I also think that the D-Pad is a big plus and not a minus in comparison to the scroll ball from HTC.
I want upgrade my samsung i7500 device to android 1.6 (new build).

View 5 Replies View RelatedSorry if this thread seems inconsequential but I have been rendering myselves sleepless nights over the past couple of days ( and nights ) due to my inability to choose between the above two said android phones. I like the i5700 for its zippy 800 MHz processor and that its got the 2.1 update. I like the i7500 for its 5 MP camera and flash + a larger screen to play with I would have gone in for the i7500 but have been hearing about Samsung deciding against not updating it to version 2.1 which can off course be done taking the un-official channel. Moreover the 528 Mhz processor is certainly lagging.
But still I see people in here Going after the i7500 .... Adding to it there is more threads and discussions going around on the i7500 as compared to the i5700. Am I missing something in the i7500 or is it just that i am a stupid newbie ... I have gone through many many pages of information on this thread before posting this query.
Would you have bought a i5700, if you hadn't bought a i7500?
View 13 Replies View RelatedI've been noticing while looking at other i7500 reviews that my keyboard layout is completely different than all the other i7500, whether in landscape or portrait mode I don't have the caps lock key, instead i have a T9 and the printed orange colour keys is what I hate most
Pls look at this pix, and tell me what can be wrong with this keyboard.
In my settings these are the steps:
Settings>Locale & text >Samsung keyboard, that's all I have, no other Keyboard available, am I missing something or what?
Both handset uses same android version. 95% of the applications are same.
HTC receive more wifi ID which samsung i7500 does not.
Any setup i need to do in samsung to receive more wifi?

View 2 Replies View RelatedOne side effect I've noticed from the recent update: it seems like some apps are just gone from the Android Market. The one I know for sure is the MLB.com At Bat 2010 app. AppBrain still lists it (in fact, it shows that it got a price drop about 10 hours ago), but scanning the QR code, searching for it in the Android Market, even trying to install it from AppBrain all lead to the same thing: The item could not be found. I don't know if this is happening with other apps or not. I do know for sure that the MLB.com At Bat 2010 app was there before the update as I was trying to decide whether I was justified in spending the money to listen to the playoff games at work. But now it's just gone without a trace.Anyone else notice this or other apps missing?

I know Samsung Galaxy is coming out on monday or tuesday on O2 UK,so now when its so close to uk customers i want all of you help me and us decide which Android phone shoul I or WE go for?im very confused at this moment as for me its still unclear how much RAM Galaxy has and whether or not it would be slower or faster than HTC Hero? other thing is Sense UI that Hero has which looks amazing so question for developers or general programmers will it be possible to port it to Galaxy as i think the only differences are presence of Flash LED on Galaxy camera and D-Pad instead of Track ball on Hero. and one more thing how much future proof will both phones are in your opinion as im going to get 18month contract anyway so i dont want to regret in couple of weeks.
View 24 Replies View RelatedI just mistyped the URL for Open Source Samsung Mobile, and just typed the one for Samsung Open Source Release Center. It seems to be a "new" site for every division of Samsung to publish the sources of software distributed under open software licenses starting at April 1st 2010.Right now it only lists some sources for a multifunction printer, but it seems to be a more serious effort than the previous site. You know... they even have included the release date information.
View 4 Replies View RelatedWell for me Android really fell off the edge of a cliff in the last 6mts as a "single platform across all devices". Anyway whilst we whinge in other threads and some kind souls try and fix it I thought might be good to have a thread for Apps which DO work well in Android after all wherever we are or aren't in the development curve the user experience can be really transformed by a neat App. As well as the old favorites I came across recently:
[1.5/K4] Speaker Shake really neat you pick up the phone shake it and it answers a call with the speaker phone on Dolphin Browser - haven't succeed out the really neat gesture controls yet but do like how it downloads you tubes no prob for viewing when off line.
