Jul 29, 2010So, I called tmobile to get a replace phone because of the GPS issue. Will I need to unroot my phone since the techs will probably be checking the phone out so that it wasn't messed with. I have superusers permissions on the phone and i Just simply flashed the update.zip. I don't know how to work with adb, so if someone can give me some info on what to do I'd greatly appreciate it.

Nov 16, 2009This was originally going to be a post about missing icons. I'll return to that.
I recently installed a (paid) homescreen app called GDE from a guy at XDA developers. It's wonderful, and gives me a choice of the number of homescreens, transition type, and whether the sequence of screens loops or not (appears endless) It works well and is very smooth. I use the box transitions and it's very impressive.
Back to the icons, which will be of interest to anyone who replaces their homescreen app. When I installed GDE, I was basically given 5 blank homescreens. All my shortcuts were gone and had to be re-installed.
Not so bad, because it gave me a chance to re-organize my device. But, I couldn't find my CNN, ESPN, Facebook icons. That's when I started this post, because I thought they were apps, they are not, they are browser favorite shortcuts on the homescreen.
So, if any of you replace your home app and want to restore these, just open your browser, go to favorites, and long hold on the shortcuts you want to install on home.
Samsung Vibrant :: Single Dead Pixel? Call For Replacement?
Aug 21, 2010I love my new vibrant and recently developed a dead pixel. I've whipped my phone clear of finger prints now and still when I open my flashlight application, I find a single blue pixel. Unless it's grey/black it becomes quite annoying. I hardly notice it with my nexus one live wallpaper but thats about the only time I don't notice it. Should I stop complaining and deal with it or should ask for a replacement and throw out 10 bucks(and later pay 15 for a new screen protector)to ship it back hoping it doesn't get lost by the postal service which would mean I'd have to pay for the replacement/further deal with hell in that situation(Sorry, never had good times with them)and start backing up now?

May 7, 2010Just found this one on the market last night, its called PandaHero-Hero Style, by Honeybee apps. It is an actual full app that makes the phone almost exactly like a HTC-Hero. I love it so far, so easy to use and looks really good, it is pretty intuitive.

Nov 17, 2010Just picked up a Fascinate for my wife and as we all know it's infested with Bing (until the 2.2 update). I have installed google search etc and its mostly running like her Eris was BUT the car home app that pops up when you place the phone in the car mount is the Samsung Bing app. The icons point to VZ navigator etc and she is like WTF I can't get the nav to work. Anyone know the easiest way (here come the "root the phone man....." comments) to disable the car home or replace it will the stock google one?

Feb 7, 2010The Android Applications forum keeps misleading me because people talk about apps and features that aren't available in Android 1.5, so I thought I'd ask the other Moment owners about home replacement apps. I think I'd like something, but I'm really hesitant to pay for one that I may not like, and I also worry that I'd not really understand all I could do with one and therefore not truly appreciate it.
I've also seen very mixed reviews on nearly every home replacement app.
So I'm curious about the opinions of other Moment owners on these home replacement apps and also if there are any good places for thorough information on them.

May 19, 2010I have been working on a replacement for the stock Car Home app for a bit, and I am completely stumped on how to override the Home button so that my app will be brought back to the foreground whenever the phone is docked. This is the way that Car Home works, so there must be a way. It seems that BroadcastReceivers won't work, because the intent that is broadcast whenever the Home button is pressed will still cause the default homescreen app to launch; I cannot prevent it. I can override the Home button from within my app, but that does me no good since this needs to work when the user is outside my app. Car Home also does not do anything weird like set itself as the default homescreen app while it's running (I checked the logcat to make sure).
I've been really beating my head against the wall on this. Does anyone have any ideas, or can you at least point me in the right direction?

Jul 16, 2010I've been playing around with my Vibrant and just lowered the number of pages the Home screen has. Doing this, however, changed the page that comes up when I hit the actual "Home" button. It's becoming very annoying and switching the order of the pages around by dragging them in the Edit mode hasn't helped. It even sometimes chooses the very right-most, completely blank page to be the default home one. How can I assign which of the Home pages I want to pop up when that button is hit?
