What is the best music download app for the Vibrant? I have tried a few and they seem to take forever to download songs to my phone and forget about previewing one. Also I have designated ringtones to some contacts and it still rings with default ringer.

View 2 Replies View RelatedWhen I play one of the stock ringtones (which, by the way, suck) or stream radio stations, music plays fine. However, I would like to be able to download music to my phone either from my computer or from an app, but every time I try either of those, I hear a popping/dripping noise in the background. It happens both when I preview the song/sound and when I download it, and it doesn't matter where I download them from. I've tried websites, my computer, apps, etc. So frustrating!
It sounds like it may be a problem with the speakers, like maybe they are having trouble playing certain file types or something, but I haven't the slightes idea why this is. That's just a hunch, though. I know nothing about how phones work. Anyone know what might be going on? By the way, I don't know if this affects anything, but my phone is rooted now. The popping/dripping began way before I rooted it, though. Just throwing that out there.
Put a few songs on the new Vibrant--under SD folder...However, nothing shows in my music player.
View 5 Replies View RelatedI have rooted my captivate and downloaded Barnacle, both the legacy and the beta version and both are discoverable from my laptop and ipod touch but none of them can actually connect, I went through all the settings and played around to no avail. I then tried "wireless tether" app which I can't seem to find in appbrain to link but the icon is the WiFi signal strength bar in green if that helps, the only thing this app does is say wi-fi tethering is on but the device doesn't show up at all. My question is are there ANY wifi tethering apps that are currently compatible with a rooted Captivate?

View 1 Replies View RelatedI have already searched the forums. I saw some vague answers and not were particular to the vibrant. Anyways, I was very excited I got the 32gb memory card. Now, the downside is that I still have to use the AUX input to play music. It's very inefficient to lose the concurrent charging capability by ignoring the USB output right next the the 1/8.This seems like a major negative on the part of this phone.There really has to be a way to get the head unit to communicate with a phone with such incredible technologies.Ideas guys? How can I do it?

Every time I unplug my headphones from phone, the music player launches and plays music through the speaker. I use the headphones to talk while I game, and am not running the music app, however it still chooses to open. Is there anyway I can prevent this?

I can't see any of the music or photos that I was uploading.
I did reset the phone and keeps doing it.
I was trying to view a regular PC version of a site and somebody in a comment said its easier to fake a User Agent through about:debug so I did and no since I changed it to desktop it wont open and force closes. I saved a log of the crash if you guys want to see it. I just came from the iPhone world so this stuff is a tad different.

View 5 Replies View RelatedI've been using doubleTwist to sync & manage my music on my HTC EVO 4G (and Palm Pre) and I've had just about enough of its slow iTunes syncing, slow device syncing and overall clunkiness (yes, I'm a previous user of the iPod/iTunes and Zune/Zune Software systems). Though I love the doubleTwist player for Android I'm done with doubleTwist. And no I'm not interested in Salling Media Sync (especially since its not free).
If I manage things myself by manually syncing/copying music to my Android (i.e., artist/album/ folder structure under /sdcard/music/):
[1] Where do I place the playlists (in .m3u format)?: /sdcard/music/playlists OR /sdcard/music/playlist1.m3u, playlist2.m3u, etc.
[2] what Android players are compatible with this format/structure (i.e., that'll pick up the playlists just fine)?
I came across this in the marketplace. It basically lights up your screen on and off when you have a missed call or text. You have to option to set the frequency your screen flashes to notify you (every 5, 10 seconds, etc) and for how long this goes on (1 hour, 2 hours, etc) Gonna try it out. Not sure if it's a battery drainer or not, just trying it out myself.

I press the shortcut icon I want to delete, hold, wait for the vibration, drag to the garbage icon, and release. When I go back to the application page the shortcut icon is still there.
This technique works perfectly on the home pages, just not on the application pages.
I've got some photos stuck in an MMS that I tried to download before I realised that I didnt have the correct MMS APN settings in (due to swapping to the Modaco ROM). The correct settings are now in but the MMS is stuck at "downloading" status. Is there any way I can rescue it, there is no forward option and I've successfully sent and recieved MMS since.

I don't know if I'm the only one who doesn't like the new stock Froyo messaging app (I doubt I am) but is there any way to switch out the new one with the old one. Personally I loved the old stock messaging app and I would LOVE to have it back. I know there's the whole issue of it not being compatible but if anyone has gotten it to work I would love to know. I don't want to have to go back to Handcent.

View 1 Replies View RelatedThe reason why I am asking this is because I want to set myself up for the vanilla rom. From what I have read, the blur messaging us taken out. (Obviously) but despite its ugliness, I just love the fact that I can send video and if its too big, it redirects me to edit length. I am currently running handcent and handcent does not redirect me to video edit lite. So my question is what messaging ap will allow me to send videos the same way the stock app does? Another thing is that I can't even view videos sent to me from handcent, and almost every mms is sent as a slideshow (on both messaging apps). Is there any way around that?

1. I plan on going South Africa. According to this site, both the phone and 3g should work perfectly right? GSM World Coverage Map- GSM Country List by frequency bands
2. I have seen an app to unlock the Vibrant. It is by DaGentooBoy from XDA. Its called Samsung Galxy S Unlock. Would it be better for me to use this app or to just request T-Mobile to give me the unlock code. Are there any pros or cons for using either method.
3. If the OTA update or Froyo don't come out before I am gone, will I be able to get an OTA over wifi while I am in South Africa. Just to clarify, I will be using a local sim over there. I will discontinue from tmobile when I leave the US I know nothing of rooting. This is my first smartphone, so if possible I would be hesitant of doing any updates via the computer that requires me to loose all my info. I have too many apps and saved games and settings to download again so its just a scary thought of loosing it all.
4. Will google navigation work overseas. I have heard people say yes and no. I am hesitant to buy apps like co-pilot as they cost a lot and have mixed reviews, so I wanted to find out about this.
I've noticed a troubling issue with app permissions. It seems that after installing, some apps that didn't ask for these two permissions:
Storage: modify/delete SD card contents
Phone calls: read phone state and identity
will magically acquire them after install! These apps do not ask for these permissions during install, nor do their Market pages disclose that they need them. After looking through many logcat messages during an install, I found this:

Digging around, I found this online:
Android permissions: Phone Calls: read phone state and identity - Stack Overflow. It seems that an app that is compatible with systems earlier than 1.6 will automatically be assigned those two permissions. If a developer is willing to make their app compatible only with 1.6+ systems, they can change their app's manifest:
<uses-sdk android:minSdkVersion="4" android:targetSdkVersion="4" />
and when users on 1.6+ devices install the app, those two extra permissions won't show up.
I bet a lot of app developers don't know this, and therefore their apps will seems to acquire those two permissions magically. Users will install those apps, see the two extra permissions when they inspect the app security setting and be very puzzled. They'll probably think the app is malware and uninstall it. I've contacted some app developer about this issue, so that they can (hopefully) fix their app so it doesn't look like malware. Unfortunately, until all legit apps are fixed, it'll be hard to distinguish amongst apps that have those permissions, which app actually needs those permissions, which apps need fixing, and which apps are malware.
Is there a a way for my ringtones/alarm tones not to display on the default music application ??
