Samsung Vibrant : Popping - Dripping Sound With Audio Downloading
Nov 16, 2010
When I play one of the stock ringtones (which, by the way, suck) or stream radio stations, music plays fine. However, I would like to be able to download music to my phone either from my computer or from an app, but every time I try either of those, I hear a popping/dripping noise in the background. It happens both when I preview the song/sound and when I download it, and it doesn't matter where I download them from. I've tried websites, my computer, apps, etc. So frustrating!
It sounds like it may be a problem with the speakers, like maybe they are having trouble playing certain file types or something, but I haven't the slightes idea why this is. That's just a hunch, though. I know nothing about how phones work. Anyone know what might be going on? By the way, I don't know if this affects anything, but my phone is rooted now. The popping/dripping began way before I rooted it, though. Just throwing that out there.

Everytime I open up my sms app, i'm always getting this pop up message:"do you want to limit the number of messages you save to conversation"I have to repeatedly set it at "No limit" and it's becoming frustrating doing this over and over. I've went into message settings and checked off "no limit" has anyone encountered this? if so, what are possible solutions?

What is the best music download app for the Vibrant? I have tried a few and they seem to take forever to download songs to my phone and forget about previewing one. Also I have designated ringtones to some contacts and it still rings with default ringer.

If the Mods decide to delete this and direct you to the OP then thats fine. I just want to spread awareness if this issue. This might not be a big deal to most but I went to the Android market looking for a music app, something like NanoStudio for iPhone. I found a lot of 2nd rate loop creation synth nonsense. After trying different free versions of paid software I asked myself "why are there no good music apps for Android?"
I emailed the creators of NanoStudio to ask if there are any plans to release an Android version of their software. here is the reply: "Not until they get their act together with audio latency, no. Shame really because NanoStudio's written to be cross platform" This greatly disappointed me. I am a music producer going on 10 years (hip hop, Trip hop, Electronic, etc..) so you can understand my interest in this issue. iphone, iPod have amazing music apps of this sort. Android has nothing close.

while listening to Pandora with headphones (using my iphone ear buds), noticing significant static/popping while listening to Pandora... a little better if you turn on the high quality option in the preferences, but still present...

Everytime I start any audio or video there seems to be a pop sound that occurs. It's louder if I happen to pause a track and then resume playing it again. It's still there even if I use my own earphones as well, so I'm thinking it's the handset. It doesn't happen with the speaker, only the 3.5mm jack. I was just wondering if it was a common issue or a problem just with my handset.

So i didn't put any unofficial software,in other words, everything is as it came out of the store (except lots of apps ofc. the problem is that i doesn't play any sound when i want to play music,or with some app (without headphones, when i have them then it's normal) but when someone calls me or i set an alarm then it plays perfectly normal so i'm confused...it's obvious that speaker is not broken.
Then today suddenly i can't hear anything when i'm in a call, and the person from the other side also doesn't hear me,i also don't know why is that...i'm not an expert for this kinda things and actually i'm quite knew in this world.

My volume buttons seem loose. Is that normal you think? Perhaps its a petty thing to think about, but play (I can hear them rattle a bit if I shake the phone gently) in my experience leads to quick wear.

There have been multiple threads of people saying they are experiencing sound popping when using the 3.5mm jack, most of them say its on Pandora others will say that it happens on all mp3's or a few mp3's that otherwise sound perfect when played on their computer. To test I want to see if its a defect in hardware or if it just another Droid Does problem. I always consistently experience sound popping with my Sony headphones while playing Home by Michael Buble. If you go to youtube and search "home buble" play the first search result in high quality and turn the media volume to maximum. Listen in about 45 seconds and let me know if you hear popping.

I want to get rid of the sound that plays when you turn on and turn off the phone, and the video too if possible. But I can't find the file on my phone to delete it.

I've got some photos stuck in an MMS that I tried to download before I realised that I didnt have the correct MMS APN settings in (due to swapping to the Modaco ROM). The correct settings are now in but the MMS is stuck at "downloading" status. Is there any way I can rescue it, there is no forward option and I've successfully sent and recieved MMS since.

A new update came out yesterday for doubleTwist that allows podcasts to be downloaded and synced just like on the iPod/iPhones. And not just audio podcasts like Google's app, you also get video podcasts as well! Though it does seem like it takes awhile to sync them, it is a way cool addition that makes doubleTwist closer to that all-inclusive experience that iTunes gives with all the different media.

Ok, so I may be leaving the USA soon. I plan on unlocking my phone and going out of the country with it. I don't know how long I may be gone.maybe years, so here are a few questions.
1. I plan on going South Africa. According to this site, both the phone and 3g should work perfectly right? GSM World Coverage Map- GSM Country List by frequency bands
2. I have seen an app to unlock the Vibrant. It is by DaGentooBoy from XDA. Its called Samsung Galxy S Unlock. Would it be better for me to use this app or to just request T-Mobile to give me the unlock code. Are there any pros or cons for using either method.
3. If the OTA update or Froyo don't come out before I am gone, will I be able to get an OTA over wifi while I am in South Africa. Just to clarify, I will be using a local sim over there. I will discontinue from tmobile when I leave the US I know nothing of rooting. This is my first smartphone, so if possible I would be hesitant of doing any updates via the computer that requires me to loose all my info. I have too many apps and saved games and settings to download again so its just a scary thought of loosing it all.
4. Will google navigation work overseas. I have heard people say yes and no. I am hesitant to buy apps like co-pilot as they cost a lot and have mixed reviews, so I wanted to find out about this.

I have Advanced Task Killer Free and it always shows Voice Search and AT&T Navigator keep coming on after I kill those apps. Can I disable them from running? I don't believe I have any apps running that require for those 2 to be running. Excuse my naiveness. This is my first Android phone and I'm still learning. Also, I've had my phone charging for about 45 minutes and the charge only went up 2% since. I turned off wifi, syncing, and whatever else should be draining the battery. Any suggestions on what I could do to have a longer lasting battery?

On G5 and Modaco RC3 every time my phone starts up, it'll ask if Titanium Backup can have superuser. If I look at the permissions list, I can see the apps I've allowed. But, every time I run them, it prompts. This happens when any app wants su.I've tried changing the option in Superuser to Toast as someone suggested on another forum but that has not fixed it.

The galaxy s phones were made for high end games. I want to find and try all the high end games for android, so please post which games you found...Here are the high end games I've tried and what I think about them:
Asphalt HD from Gameloft. I really love this racing game. Its on par with racing games made for the psp. I hope they release an expansion pack with more cars/tracks/events. N.O.V.A from Gameloft. A pretty good fps. It kinda reminds me of halo. I wish there was more weapons and enemies/bosses. note: you cant get this game from the market, you have to buy from the gameloft website. Dungeon Hunter from Gameloft. A standard rpg. Im playing this right now. my thoughts so far is that its a pretty good rpg for a phone but pales in comparison to handheld console rpgs. note: you cant get this game from the market, you have to buy from the gameloft website. Hero of Sparta from gameloft. its a hack n slash game. this is the only game from the gameloft hd series that I didnt like so far. I havent tried the other 5 HD games from gameloft but I plan on doing so.
I really want to try all the high end games for android so please any games you have found
Here's a video of the games in action:http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=OxdZWhga0Vw

The application allowed its users to control the volume of the artist; even mute it.How is this possible?Does adjusting artist sound/setting equalizer etc. mean performing some transformation of required frequencies? What sort of mathematics is required here(frequency domain transformations)? The application recorded users voice input via a mic. Assuming that the sound is recorded in some format, the application was able to mix the recording with the karaoke track(with artists voice muted). How can this be done?Did they play both the track and voice recording simultaneously? Or maybe they inserted additional frequency(channel?) in the original track, maybe replaced it?What sort of DSP is involved here? Is this possible in Java, Objective C?

I have a flash file that I open through smartswf and suddenly the audio is now echoing, like its playing the sound twice. It use to work OK on this ROM (cyanogenmod 10) with this app. It does the same with other flash files also. I have tried other apps and does the same thing, and tried reinstalling flash and rolling back to earlier versions with the same result.

I recently rooted my kyocera rise and everything was fine until I decided to install beats audio. My first mistake before installing the drivers was not backing up anything, yes I know that's bad. Okay so I installed the drivers with beats audio from the market then rebooted. Now I have no sound at all. No ring no music nothing. And my phone is running a lot worse now. Now come to find out apparently beats audio is not removable. The drivers can't be removed. I really need sound. Is there a way to unroot and completely factory reset the phone through factory settings?

The music player randomly starts up when I have my headphones inserted! How do I describe this? I'm watching a movie in Merdian, I change my body position, the headphone jack moves around a bit, then, without any warning, the music player starts playing in the background! Right in the middle of my movie Anyone else seen this problem ? If my headphones are inserted, a small twist at the jack, and regardless of what I'm doing (browser, home screen ...etc) the music player starts up.

I plugged my Moto Droid into my truck today and used it for navagation. Sounded great. Later after I unplugged it and tried to make a call on the phone there was no audio coming from the phone. I had to reboot the phone to get it back. I think I read somthing about this someplace. I kinda remember something about the switch sticking in the audio jack. I've only used this jack twice now and the phone is only a month or so old. Is this a known issue?

I was really hoping to save 55% off the cost of the Tmobile Gel Case but alas it was not to be. When my wife saw the case installed on the phone she said "what the heck?" That's because the case fits the Vibrant unevenly. And it doesn't wrap around the bezel fully.
Here is my review:
The Amzer "Silicone Skin Case" is completely unacceptable to me in terms of fit, feel and function. The Vibrant is a top of the line, expensive and amazing device deserving of quality accessories. This case is basically junk and not commensurate with the quality or value of the Vibrant.
First the fit: It slides onto the Vibrant easily enough (too easily in fact - it feels like it might fall off) and the cutouts are all lined up with the camera, USB, etc. However, the case barely fits around the bezel and it fits the face of the phone unevenly so you can see the bezel on one side but not the other side. The last point about the fit is that the phone feels like it could pop out of the case if you squeezed the sides; this is a very unsettling feeling. A case should make you feel more secure not less and it shouldn't detract from the quality appearance of this device.
Second, the feel: The case feels much too thin along the sides, the corners feel nice and thick as they should be to protect the phone. The sides however offer little in the way of protection. It just feels cheap and not nearly thick enough to offer much protection.
Third, the function: I bought a case to protect the phone from damage in the event it is dropped. I want protection around the bezel and the sides and back of the phone. The Amzer case only seems to protect the Vibrant on the corners where this case is thicker. I feel like if I dropped the phone and it landed on the side there would be little to prevent the phone from being damaged.
Needless to say I was disappointed when I tried the Amzer on my Vibrant this afternoon. So much so that I immediately called Amazon to arrange for its return. I have the Gel Case from Tmobile which by comparison is vastly superior although 55% more in price.
In this case you get what you pay for. And I do not want to skimp on protection a device as valuable as the Vibrant. Let's see, save $6 on a case for a $500 phone? No way, not when it's ugly when installed, feels cheap and insecure in the hand, and offers less protection. The Tmobile case fits snugly, wraps evenly around the bezel, is thicker to better protect the phone in the event of an impact.
I give this case 1 out 5 stars. The Tmobile Gel Case gets 4.5 stars.
