Can someone help me root? I have read and read, but i still don't get what all i need to do, and stuff like that.

Anyone in the Central FL area that would be willing to help me root this phone? I just got my moment 2 weeks ago. I tried rooting it today by following what seemed to be fairly simple instructions but when I went to do the recovery part, I got this message..."Samsung PST MFC Application has stopped working". I tried going thru the whole process again while phone was still plugged in but I kept getting same msg. When I unplugged it and tried turning it on, all I would get was a pic of a phone, a question mark, and a computer. I had to hard boot it. Once I did that, it was on the 1.5 version. I had to take it to the fix it shop to get the upgrade and my contacts back. I'm very scared to even try this again myself but I want it rooted so bad! I want to be able to use it as a modem for my laptop.

View 5 Replies View RelatedI bought an used Samsung Moment via Craiglist about 3 weeks ago. Initially, I had to wiggle my cable to get it charged. After few days, it was not charging nor communicating with my laptop via USB cable. Of course, the Craiglist seller was not willing help me.
After contacting Samsung, I had sent it in to be fixed since it was still under warranty. It just came back today with a note saying:
Your phone is damaged beyond economical repair in the form of a warped board, or missing or damaged components. The factory warranty has been voided.
I know that I can charge my battery via some kind of external batter charger that is around, but can I update my phone and/or root my phone without using USB cable? Can I use a bluetooth connection? If not any idea or suggestion?
So for the last cuple of days I have been trying root my moment using the sw update and system tool but have run into problem with the phone connecting during downloading. So I was wondering if there is a way to root/flash the phone using terminal emulator and telnet?

View 39 Replies View RelatedSo I rooted my moment and everything is fine and dandy. But when I went to flash back to the sprint stock firmware my PC won't pick up the USB. I have the drivers. My PC sees the phone as Android not Samsung mobile device. I can't seem to find a way for it to get the drivers. I wanted to try a different ROM then the one I'm running now.

Question 1:
I got the Open Home .apk, and while I like most features of Open Home, I don't like the icons it uses. I'd rather use the default Android icons. And I can't figure out how... there are no "default Android icon packs" out there. So I got clever. I opened my .apk with WinRar on a PC, found all the new icons I didn't like, and replaced them with the standard icons (which I cleverly extracted from the Android SDK).
However, I guess I wasn't so clever, because the new modified .apk won't install. I guess the creator of the .apk put in a protection of some sort to not let it install if it's been modified? Way over my head at this point...
Question 2:
If I root my phone, will I be able to access the root structure from PC over USB link? I was thinking, maybe the modified Open Home .apk won't install, but if I were able to get into the already installed default Open Home, and then replace the icons, maybe I'd have more success that way.
Anyone else been having trouble with their network only sometimes working? After installing de03 and rooting yesterday I have been having. Issues with my network only sometimes working. I can get into the market place find apps but when I try to download o update aps it sometimes only does one or two before it hangs then throws an error message saying problem with the network. Then the evdo icon completly dissapears and I have to cycle it in and out of airplane mode to get the network back. My wifi works great but trying to use the cell for Internet I lose all connection as soon as I try to download anything from the marketplace

View 8 Replies View RelatedI am new to this (less than a week) and I removed everything with root explorer (and it was so simple). You can get it from the market. I would recommend it if you are not used to linux commands. It was well worth the two dollars for me. The main thing to know is r/w (read/write) vs. r/o (read only). It is just as it says - r/o will only let you read files, while r/w will let you read AND write files (which includes move and delete).

I want to copy my contacts to my SIM card so i can reset it and update it.
But the problem is, in pcs you can copy your contacts from your phone to pcs, but i first have to update it.
But when i update it all my numbers would be lost.
And the second problem is it doesnt want to update my phone.
When i try to update it, it says there has been a problem with the connection with the server.
Could i put a memory card in to my phone and copy my numbers to it?

I just want version 1.6 on the moment so I can get the WGN Radio app. The phone says it's running firmware version 1.5, and I get a "cannot connect" message when I try to update firmware, so what do I do? Am I stuck with 1.5 until 2.1 comes out, or is there a way to get 1.6?

However, I hate HTC Calendar and the way it has sync problems with Google Calendar, i would much prefer the stock Android Google Calendar. Anyone know where I can grab the latest one that comes with non-HTC Froyo so I can make my life better?And for anyone skittish about rooting don't be! It's easy and you won't regret it.it's awesome having the access to just remove whatever files you want whereever they are and customize things.
