Samsung Moment :: 2.1 DD03 Phone - Audio Routing Issue
Apr 14, 2010
I upgraded from CL14 --> 2.1 DD03 last night. I've noticed the following issue with my Bluetooth / audio routing in my car.
Scenario
* Moment successfully paired to car's Bluetooth after DD03
* I can make/receive calls via Bluetooth -- voice commands with my car's Bluetooth system and call is successfully placed by Moment
* My car has an RCA/AUX jack - I've connected that to my Moment's headphone jack to listen to podcasts while commuting to work.
Here's where the problem starts. If the Moment's headphone jack is connected to my car's AUX input with an RCA cable, I can place calls via Bluetooth (or I can hear the ringing of an incoming call) but when the call is connected (incoming/outgoing) the audio isn't being sent from the Moment to the car's speaker. I know the call is connected because I see the call duration timer on the Moment's dialer screen -- and more importantly, if I remove the cable from the headphone jack the audio is then routed to the car's speaker via Bluetooth. If I plug the cable back into the jack, the audio stops again.
I'm pretty sure that this wasn't a problem in CL14.

I have the the leaked version of 2.1 w/DD10 and root and works really well.
1)Is it possible to install DD03 with root on my leaked 2.1 for improved battery life?
2)Will the DD03 reset the phone or take out the installed apps?
3)Are there known issues with DD03?
Could somebody link me to the best DD03 with root from SDX.

It is not as easy as it was in the past since we haven't gotten the source code to modify this into the kernel... but you can root the DD03 release. SDX Rooted Leaked Android 2.1 DD03

I've been messing around with Tasker for the last several days, and it's raised a concern I've had with android itself. Is there a definitive answer to how audio is routed? I see that there are at least 6 audio stream types: call, system, ringer, media, alarm, notification. I also see (using Smart Volume or Quick Settings, etc.) that there are corresponding audio volume controls for each of the above.
My question is, which speaker do each of the audio streams get routed to? Obviously, there are different setups for when the headphones are plugged in and not. Here's what I see empirically so far: When the physical headphones are unplugged, the system, ringer, media, alarm and notification streams get routed to the external speaker. The call stream is routed to the earpiece.
When the headphones are plugged in, the alarm and notification streams seem to be routed to the external speaker (speakerphone, I guess). The call, system and media streams get routed to the headphones. The ringer stream has been behaving oddly. Sometimes it comes through the headphones, and sometimes through the ext. speaker.

if it was possible to route audio files from the phone to a bluetooth headset on versions of Android API Level 7 and under (so versions older than the new Froyo) If so, do you know of any sample code I could look at to figure out how to do this? Or perhaps just point me in the right direction?

This is driving me nuts. When I get in my car and bluetooth connects to the phone, the phone automatically starts playing music through BT audio. I cant find any way to disable it short of turning off BT and I dont want to do that as I play Slacker through BT. Is there an option Ive missed to disable autoplaying of music?

I have a non -A2DP single ear BT headset (Plant ronics 510) and would like to use it with my Android HTC Magic to listen to low quality audio like pod casts/audio books. After much goggle I found that only phone call audio can be routed to the non-A2DP BT headsets. (I would like to know if you have found a ready solution to route all kinds of audio to non-A2DP BT headsets). So I figured, somehow pro grammatically I can channel the audio to the stream that carries phone call audio. This way I will fool the phone to carry my mp3 audio to my BT headset. I wrote following simple code.
import android.content.*;
import android.app.Activity;
import android.os.Bundle;
import android.media.*;
import java.io.*;
import android.until.Log;
public class BT Audio Activity extends Activity. But none of the above worked. If I remove the Audio Manager calls in the above code, the audio plays from speaker and if I replace them as shown above then the audio stops coming from speakers, but it doesn't come through the BT headset. So this might be a partial success. I have checked that the BT headset works alright with phone calls. There must be a reason for Android not supporting this. But I can't let go of the feeling that it is not possible to pro grammatically reroute the audio.

I have a Plantronics Voyager 510 (LOVE IT!!) and I can only seem to get the phone to send calls through to it. It works perfect, but how can I send audio from the Music Player or from when I am playing a movie? Do I need an App to do it or is there a setting that I am missing somewhere? I am using the Samsung Moment with 2.1

we all know there are problems with stuttering and skipping in Pandora. Here's some proof of what's going on when it happens. I hooked up my phone and grabbed the system log as I started Pandora and easily got it to stutter and skip. I added notes as to what what happening at each step.Perhaps this log will raise some awareness of the problem and if we're lucky all this will make it back to Sprint and Samsung and get fixed soon.

It's time we find out if the audio problems are with all Moment's or just some.If you have used any streaming audio apps such as Pandora, Last.fm or the new Slacker Radio, have you experienced regular stuttering?

I rooted and installed a custom kernal several days ago and am very happy with the battery life. However I have a weird problem ever since. My audio stops working all the sudden out of the blue. Ring, text alert, etc. just stops. the only way I can get it to start again is rebooting. Anyone else having this issue? Can i fix it?

1. When my car is off, I need the telephone audio to go out the headphone jack.
2. When my car is on, I need the Moment to make a Bluetooth connection with the car and send the telephone audio to the car.
3. I need to keep the audio cable plugged into the headphone jack 24/7.
It is an extremely long story, so just assume 1, 2, and 3 are true and accept that premise.
If the car is on Bluetooth is active but there is an audio cable plugged into the headphone jack, audio is sent out the cable and NOT via Bluetooth. So when the car is on, I need to trick the Moment into not realizing that there is a audio cable plugged into the headphone jack, so that it will send the audio via Bluetooth to the car.Here's my plan:
Disconnect the audio jack from the Moment.
Wire speaker audio to the audio jack.
Assume I have a PACE SMT kit and am comfortable with dealing with surface mount components.From the physical layout, is this do-able?

Don't know if anyone over here cares, but zefie over on SamsungMomentForum.com released a custom kernel with a bunch of fixes. Including a partial audio buffer fix, and a bunch of tweaks and optimizations. Also, persistent root so you can run a bunch of those programs on the market that require it. No WiFi tethering yet, but it is being worked on. Not sure if this includes the battery notification fix because I had already installed CL14 the other day and it's been working for me ever since. This was not difficult to install, once you have the software and drivers required, the update takes less than 30 seconds.
Here's a link:
Time for the first custom "ROM" (well kernel)

Does the moment have the capability to send audio/video to an external display? I have a ton of shows/movies on it and I would like to hook it up to a tv to watch them. I found this ---> T3 TV-Out Video AV Cable For Samsung Moment SPH m900 US - eBay (item 110497826612 end time Mar-23-10 05:09:55 PDT) but it is the only place I've seen it and I'm not sure if it will actually work with the phone. Any one got a clue?

My wife's Captivate stopped ringing today...
No ringtones, no notifications, no mp3s, no sound on videos...calls show up and you can answer, talk and be heard, just no audio other than that.
Media volume up full.
Ringer volume up full.
Notification volume up full.
System volume up full.
Not on silent.
Not on vibrate.
Haven't tried it with a bluetooth headset because she doesn't use one.
Hasn't dropped it...nothing like that.

I connected my phone via USB to my RR sport to upload audio files to the RR hard drive. However, I keep getting connection error. Apparently my device is not being recognized as a storage. I did the unmount thinking. Also, I am wondering how I can play audio from my phone through the RR audio system.

I got my phone on Monday and I've noticed that when somebody is talking to me on the phone it causes a vibration type noise. I've tried lowering the volume but it still seems to be doing it. Not to mention, even with the audio turned all the way up it's hard to hear the people I'm talking to.

No, not me. I still have my Hero. But a co-worker just got a Moment so I wanted to ask if there is anything needed to be done right out the box to fix any known issues. Like with the Hero we had to install Handcent and disable the standard sms to stop it from draining the battery. Is there anything like that you recommend to be done?

Here I am with 2 HTC Hero phones, with only one on an active account. I would love to try out the Samsung Moment, but don't have the $$ to just go out and buy one.My hero comes with all it had when new, plus I have an extra battery for it I will add to the deal. This hero has only been used for about a week, and while using it, it "lived" in my Blackberry Tour holster to give it maximum protection. There are no scratches or rub marks on it, never been dropped and I have reset it to Factory Specs via the SECURITY MENU and the ESN is clear and ready to be activated on your SPRINT account.Please email me at sy@rayzel.com if you are interested. Maybe we can work out a swap.Now for the additional 1 to 2 feet of snow that is forecast for this afternoon and tomorrow, on top of the 2.5 feet still on the ground.

Pretty much ever since I flashed over to 2.1 I don't receive any of my emails anymore. The only ones I do get are my work ones and that's connected directly to the Exchange server. I have a total of 4 emails being sent to my phone, My gmail, Hotmail, and 2 from my website exile-designs.com. I have the settings to check every 15 minutes but I never get any. Anyone have any idea's on this? I know the settings are right for sure on my Hotmail because I can pull that one up and see my old email's sitting in my inbox. The other 3 accounts should all be fine as well.
