Samsung :: How To Enable Radio In Spica I5700
Apr 25, 2010
From Samsung's spec there is no radio in I5700. But is it possible to add an app that can provide this functionality. I am not interested in Internet radio apps. Does Android 2.1 have a solution for this?

I am deliberating between HTC Hero and Samsung Galaxy Spica I5700. Chosing between this two because Nexus One is too expensive for me and the only android phones avaliable in my country is Samsung Galaxy and Hero. Here is my breakdown of the Samsung Galaxy and Hero. I tot the main difference these two phones have is that Hero have customisable roms readily availble while the Galaxy don't. It is important to have customisable roms. Will the Samsung Galaxy unskinned Android 1.5 suffice? I heard that it is getting Android 2.0 Will there be any ramification if my Galaxy stays as 2.0 as I am worried that Samsung will support it till then and that without customisable roms I can't update it myself.

I have a problem with samsung gt-I5700 phone.. I bought it in Norway and when I arrived in the Philippines I ask help to the samsung customer service if they can upgrade my android.. Before the upgrade my phone works really good but after they upgraded the android from 1.6 to 2.1 ,my phones ruined or it is not working good.I cant download any application rom the market because i dont have enough phone memory and everytime i restart my phone all the contacts will gone and my the setting that i want it will turn it back to a normal settings..So everytime restarted it i will set the settings again..I ask help and consult it again to the man who upgrade my phone. He said he cant fix it because she dont know about that kind of problem. There is a lot of people dont have any problem after they upgrade but in my case why i have this kind of problem.

The Hero is older, but both seem currently available for 150,00 via eBay. A lot of HTC Hero users have decided to sell their Hero's.I think the Samsung Spica looks better, it has a better CPU, and is newer. The HTC Hero however is HTC-brand, has a big community and more memory. What would you recommend me to buy for 150,00? I very much like mod- and tweak-ability.

This may sound pretty weird and there may be a lot of reasons y this was never attempted, but would it be remotely possible to flash spicas firmwares on galaxy after adding galaxy specific drivers to it? The reason why I ask this iz that both the phones are of similar(not same) configs.

I was originally going to get either the HTC Hero or Motorola Droid but found out they are both CMDA. and the Milestone is out of my budget. People have been suggesting to get the Samsung Galaxy S, that's also out of my budget and looks too much like an iPhone. So i stumbled upon these two phones.I'm leaning more towards the Spica because it has superior battery life, and 800mhz compared to the 528mhz the i7500 has. and it can also play DivX.What's making it a difficult decision is the i7500 has an AMOLED Screen. It can display 16,777,216 Colors while the Spica can only display 65,536 Colors I'm not too sure if that will make a difference. Also it has 5mp w/LED Flash while Spica is only 3.2.One phone has a little of both. This will be my first Android phone I'm coming from a Sony Ericsson W995.

Sorry if this thread seems inconsequential but I have been rendering myselves sleepless nights over the past couple of days ( and nights ) due to my inability to choose between the above two said android phones. I like the i5700 for its zippy 800 MHz processor and that its got the 2.1 update. I like the i7500 for its 5 MP camera and flash + a larger screen to play with I would have gone in for the i7500 but have been hearing about Samsung deciding against not updating it to version 2.1 which can off course be done taking the un-official channel. Moreover the 528 Mhz processor is certainly lagging.
But still I see people in here Going after the i7500 .... Adding to it there is more threads and discussions going around on the i7500 as compared to the i5700. Am I missing something in the i7500 or is it just that i am a stupid newbie ... I have gone through many many pages of information on this thread before posting this query.

One of the main reason I purchased this phone is to mirror the screen in my car and use the GPS on my in-dash. From my reading, it seems that it has been disabled and there is no clear answer that I have found stating that the hardware to perform TV Out was removed. Has anyone investigated this feature and had luck? I am still on a hunt to fix this feature because it's a big factor on whether or not I'll keep the phone.

I've been pretty vocal about this issue, because it's one that really bothered me. Mainly because the Galaxy S supports HSUPA, and really, any new high end phone should. I suspected AT&T was disabling it on the Captivate, likely to save features like that for the iPhone 4, and it looks like that was right. After a suggestion from trinikartel at XDA (thanks twice for good info that helped figure this out!), I flashed the i9000 JP3 modem firmware to the Captivate, and sure enough, the result was:
I've only been an Android owner for less than two weeks, so it took a little while to figure out at first, haha, but the process is very simple:
1. Download an i9000 firmware, I got the JP3 firmware from Home -. See my note below
2. Extract the firmware and find the modem firmware tar file. I9000XXJP3.tar for JP3, not to be confused with I9000XXJP3.rar which was the whole archive. If you're not sure, open it up, it should have modem.bin in it....................

I currently have code that creates rows in a table that hold a string in column 1 with a RadioButton in column 2. There can be a variable number of these rows. That all works just great, but I want to add them to a RadioGroup so only one button can be toggled at a time. When I tried to add the dynamic RadioButton to the RadioGroup AFTER I added it to the table row, I got an error saying that the child (the RadioButton) already had a parent. I agree, it does have one, the TableRow.
can you have radio buttons tied to a radio group inside of a row or, should I just code my own toggle mechanism and avoid RadioGroup all together? I mean, I could code the onClick to unclick all other radio buttons, but I would rather not do this if I can use the build in RadioGroup.
<ScrollView
android:id="@+id/ScrollViewModifyGroups"
android:layout_width="fill_parent"
android:layout_height="fill_parent".............

I just read about how the Nexus one doesn't have multi-touch enabled, even though it has the capability. The Moment has the capability for it too, but doesn't have it enabled either. Anyone happen to know why the phone makers bother spending extra money on multi-touch screens only to not enable it?

I am running Galax Hero 1.1. I tried to enable swap. First, I used the recovery mode and selected format ext. SD card with swap, then i restarted and enabled comp-cache and set it to 2 (now I see it should have been 0). Then I restarted and I just get the Android splash screen running forever. Can anyone suggest a solution?

from the updated Engadget review "[Update: We just spoke with Samsung, who told us that Google is now requiring that the "use wireless networks" setting for location-based services be turned off by default in Android devices, in other words, no AGPS unless you manually enable it. Sure enough, we went into Settings, found that it was disabled on the Epic, turned it on, and we were good to go. No GPS bug!]" that paragraph is now right before the wrap-up.
