Samsung Captivate :: How To Enable Swype Option?
Jul 24, 2010Just got my captivate, but I cant figure it out! I hit the button in bottom left that looks like a gear and I have 4 options - but none are swype. I cant figure it out.

The SYM button and the one to the left of it are blanked out - meaning they are just black boxes and clicking/pressing them does nothing. She has had to switch to the default keyboard and she hates it.Any idea what is going on and how to fix this?

Jul 9, 2010The Captivate (and Galaxy S in general) all come with Swype, right? But Swype isn't a market app right now, right? As in, the HTC Aria can't get it unless it is rooted/worked around (not too hard, but a hassle)
So is the Captivate the only phone on AT&T that can officially have swype? We all know that Apple won't let Swype in their market
Is swype coming to the official android market? is it already there? (I don't have an android, but I want one)
Samsung Captivate :: How To Enable HSUPA
Jul 30, 2010I've been pretty vocal about this issue, because it's one that really bothered me. Mainly because the Galaxy S supports HSUPA, and really, any new high end phone should. I suspected AT&T was disabling it on the Captivate, likely to save features like that for the iPhone 4, and it looks like that was right. After a suggestion from trinikartel at XDA (thanks twice for good info that helped figure this out!), I flashed the i9000 JP3 modem firmware to the Captivate, and sure enough, the result was:
I've only been an Android owner for less than two weeks, so it took a little while to figure out at first, haha, but the process is very simple:
1. Download an i9000 firmware, I got the JP3 firmware from Home -. See my note below
2. Extract the firmware and find the modem firmware tar file. I9000XXJP3.tar for JP3, not to be confused with I9000XXJP3.rar which was the whole archive. If you're not sure, open it up, it should have modem.bin in it....................
Samsung Captivate :: Accuracy Of Swype Has Been Going Down?
Sep 30, 2010Seems as though the accuracy of Swype has been going down for me over the last 2 weeks. I haven't messed with any of the settings. The main thing is that it will put in a word that I am clearly not spelling, even if I go so slow and make sure I'm touching the exact letters.
The biggest culprit for me is the word, "WANT". It keeps spelling it as "WASN'T". It is driving me crazy. I am making 100% sure I am not touching the apostrophe at all. And it will still spell "WASN'T". I have to manually type the word "WANT" everytime. There are other examples, but that is the biggest one.
Advice?

Oct 19, 2010When i d/l an app from AppPlanet it won't let me install the app because i don't have Non-Market enabled. I searched around and found there is an option in the Applications settings but i don't see that option on my rooted phone

When travelling I don't want my phone to ring or else i'd get charged international roaming rates for the voicemail if one is left, so I need any incoming calls to go immediately straight to my home phone without the call reaching the Captivate while i'm abroad. While i'm overseas I use my phone for text messaging, no voice to save money. I do this with my Palm Treo Pro all the time when travelling, set up the network so that the call immediately gets forwarded to my home number.

Dec 1, 2010I was able to successfully configure the stock email app on my android phone (Samsung Captivate). However when I went to "Email check frequency" in the settings to enable push, it did not allow me to do so. According to Android, there is an option in this setting called "Automatic (push)" other than polling options. In my case I just had polling options like "5 mts", "10 mts", "Never", and so on. But I don't have the "automatic push" option!
I checked in with my system admin. He said that they have enabled push from their end. In fact, we are on the corporate email of Google apps. So it is like a gmail except that it has my corporate email address. So this should have been a piece of cake, no?

Nov 4, 2010So awhile back I changed my google account password by logging onto my home computer. Now when I try and check emails from my captivate it says invalid user name or password. Oct 31, 2010I did it last night, seemed to work fine, but I noticed something today. Under settings, applications, USB settings, there is an option for PC Internet that wasnt there originally. When I try to go to software update, it says Communication Failed. Unable to connect to ATT servers.
Coincidence that this started now, or is there something wrong? I reset the phone twice, and reloaded Odin twice. Everything else seems to work fine.
