AT&T 3G bands - 850/1900
Can I use the International unlocked version on AT&T and get 3G coverage on ATT or do I need to have both bands 850 and 1900 in my area? I could wait for the AT&T version, but I am concerned that AT&T will change some of the features and cripple the phone. They have done this before.

I was going to use some sort of film protector, such as Zagg invisible shield and a Flip Case. But the only flip case I can find for the Galaxy S looks horrid, and I am not sure on the texture of Zagg Invisible Shields.I have also considered silicone gel cases, but I am having trouble finding one that is nice, and pouches in combo with a screen protector.What would you use and if I did buy a screen protector, which brand should it be, I want one that will protect but with minimum difference to the feel or colour of the screen.

I'll need to use it on the AT&T network occasionally, but don't want to get the Captivate model since AT&T locks it out from installing apps from "unknown sources" (makes it difficult to develop s/w!).Anyway, the unlocked Galaxies that I've seen for sale don't have what's required to use AT&T's 3G service (they work on T-Mobile, but are mostly for the European/Asian market). The Captivate works on AT&T 3G, but as I said I'd like to stay away from it and also don't want to hack it or unlock it myself, etc.Is there any solution for this? They don't sell an unbranded, unlocked Galaxy that has the wider range of 3G connectivity?This isn't really a show-stopper since I don't have or want a full cell phone plan and won't be using it that way except for occasional testing (I'll do most of my web access over WiFi). But if I'm spending $600 for a smartphone I'd like to get the max functionality out of it.

I have not seen any guides on Youtube or online yet that show guides on rooting a certain unlocked phone. I want to root it as soon as it is possible to root it safely. I am going to buy it unlocked but I am not going to get a plan from T-Mobile from it until January. View 1 Replies View RelatedI am considering upgrading to the Galaxy from my Tattoo. The app I currently use the most is Aldiko. The much bigger screen on the Galaxy appeals to me. I went into a shop the other day to try out the Galaxy and had a quick look at Aldiko which comes pre-installed on it. I have the latest version but the one on the Galaxy appears to be an old/different version and did not seem as good as the version I. So my question is, can these pre-installed apps be completely removed (or upgraded from the market to the latest versions) or am I stuck with the pre-installed version forever (unless I root it).

There is a new version of kies available 1.5.3.10093.31. I couldn't get it from the update within kies, so quite by accident I clicked on samsung widgets and it said I needed the latest version of kies, click ok to download. Am downloading right now and it's taking ages so haven't had a chance to see if its any better but will post back when I have had a chance to see. It has just finished installing and as soon as kies started it came up with a fatal error and closed down, so I think that just about says it all. Will report back later when I have had sometime to try and sort it out.

Unfortunately, the network appeared rumors that Samsung would indicate that the Galaxy will not be upgrading to the new OS 1.6, nor even to Eclair Donut 2.0. Changes include a new tab called RAM. You can now clear up your RAM according to two levels. I recommend that you only use Level 1 since level 2 kills some essential apps (like your widgets), meaning that they have to be relaunched again, consuming power and CPU cycles.

I applied RyanZA's One Click Lag Fix a while ago which worked fine and more recently tried updating the registry hack a couple of weeks ago.

I believe I uninstalled all the OCLF tools and then uninstalled the OCLF program itself.
I have an i9000M (Bell) Galaxy S that is unlocked. I have had different versions of Froyo on the phone in the last couple of months, Currently, I have JPO and it is working fine.
My first question is,
Is there a generic (Non Bell, Orange, Att, etc.) version of Android that works on any android phone? Also, what about a version that works on any brand of phone, sort of like WIndows on a PC. I know there are a sh*t load of different phones out there, but I was wondering if a generic version would work.

I read information on rooting your device, in which everything is explained very well, but could not find information on how to update once a device was rooted (probably I did not search in the right place). What I did so far is:
1) Taking backup of my pics (by manually drag and drop the folder on my pc), SMS and call logs (with sms backup + app), syncronized my contacts with gmail so that I can recover them later on and backup the music folder. I installed backup Titanium to back up my apps on my SD card.
1) Which most recent version of Android is supported on the device I have?
2) Is there important information that I forgot to back up?
3) Is there a guide with step by step procedure on which files I have to download on my pc and which procedure to follow?
I just took my first trip to Europe with my Captivate. While there I could not get my corporate email service (which is setup via exchange activesync) to push email. The only way I could get email was to open the email application. It would then force a sync and update. The gmail push (with gmail app) seamed to work fairly well although delayed. As soon as I landed on US soil yesterday, push was instantaneous. I am coming from Blackberry so I am used to seamless push everywhere in the world. I have talked to some iPhone users and they indicate similar issues. So is this just an exchange thing that I have to live with or is there something that I can do to improve performance?

I just recently unlocked it with a unlock code from TMobile, it was saying "no service" before i unlocked it because my Tmobile account is deactivated and now its saying the same thing when i put in my AT&T sim card. I changed the APN settings in safe mode to the new cingular settings, I have a current AT&T data plan and it still won't let me do anything? I also master reset all my settings, AND STILL NOTHING! But my AT&T sim card works fine (messaging,web,calling) in my little Nokia phone from AT&T.
