I have my samsung galaxy s phone. I would like to know how to enable it as Access Point and connect to net using my laptop. I went under Settings > Wireless Networks, but cant find?

I have a samsung galaxy S i9000, and the mobile access point is activated, I can successfully connect to it using my laptop but when I try to connect using my other mobile (ex: Nokia) to the Galaxy's mobile access point on the target device it says the wireless connection is lost and on the Galaxy the mobile access point is deactivated automatically, is this a limitation that the other device cannot be a WiFi mobile (Which I don't think)? OR is this a bug in Galaxy's mobile access point.

The settings are supposed to be automatic, and I do indeed have a "Telkomsel GPRS" under "Mobile networks" > "Access Point Names". The 3G on the old SIM worked pretty well, without having to do anything, but this one gets only rare and short-lived connections to the net. I've rung up Telkomsel a few times now, and they're supposed to be fixing it soon, but it's a few days and I'm getting impatient. One of the help line people suggested manually entering a new access point, but the info he gave me was a bit confusing.

View 2 Replies View RelatedI have just recently moved from Nokia E75 to HTC Desire, and there are lots of stuff on the E75 that I will never miss... But, there are a couple of things I am missing very much, tho. One thing was a very clever feature that saved a lot of battery... On my HTC Desire I have to leave wlan enabled at all time for the phone to utilize wireless at all, and I can see that it's consuming approx 20% of the battery power - even if no apps or widgets are accessing internet.
But on the Nokia E75 it's very different... The wlan is switched off by default, so whenever an application on the E75 needs a data connection (internet), it will quickly enable wlan and check to see if there are any networks nearby it can access, and then disable it again if it doesn't find any. (If no wlan access point is detected, it will go online using the mobile data connection automatically instead)

I am using ralink WiFi driver in android, I am able to connect to the access-point using the Wireless Settings provided in the Android, But once I connect to the network and restart the WiFi. I have to reconnect manually by providing the authentication key. WiFi Manager is not remembering the last access point used. I am using the Settings application provided by the android.

When I turn on my phone it searches and connects to the first access point it finds, which is not necessarily the one with the strongest signal. e.g. I have one access point on channel 10 (lounge) and another on channel 1 (bedroom). When I'm in the lounge it always connects to the A/P in the bedroom, unless I actively "forget" that network, even though the signal strength of the one in the bedroom is VERY weak. Is there a way to force it to pick the strongest A/P?

Therefor I start a scan (WifiManager.startScan()) and listen to BroadCastEvents of type SCAN_RESULTS_AVAILABLE_ACTION and NETWORK_STATE_CHANGED_ACTION. When the scan results are available, I check if my AP is found and if so I connect to it.
When I'm connected to the AP, I receive a NETWORK_STATE_CHANGED_ACTION and there I open a SocketConnection to my serverSocket. The problem I'm having is that on the moment that I'm connected to the AP, the DHCP request is not yet finished. This causes the opening of the socketConnection to throw a "SocketException: Network unreachable". A few moments later I see in the logcat logging: WifiStateTracker - DhcpHandler: DHCP request succeeded. If I try to connect after this message, all goes fine. is there an event that I can listen to that informs me that the DHCP request is done? Now I try to create a connection and while an error occurs I retry. This is however very dangerous for hanging (if e.g the dhcp fails, the loop will never stop...)

Everytime I take a new phone, during initial setup it gives me to restore my settings from Google which when I enable I get all my saved wifi-access points.
This time however by mistake I didn't allow Google to restore that data in my Note 2 so now I haven't got any saved WiFi passwords.
I had backup of all user and system data from S4 via titanium backup and I tried to restore WiFi access points in Note2 which wont work (maybe compatibility or something, I don't know)
how can i re-enable or force a re-sync that Google to restore my WiFi access points to my mobile or what can i do to get all my saved WiFi profiles back.
I just bought a unlocked galaxy note and I had to to get my access point names right so I could use my data form AT&T. I'm ready to rooted my phone and flash a ics firmware (rom) on my samsung galaxy note N-7000. when I flash, will my access point names be ok. I've already went ahead and copy on paper the way they are now so I wont lose them.
P.S. Your access point names are how you get your data from your cell phone provider such as at&t, sprint, boost mobile, etc etc. It has nothing to do with your wi-fi.
Problem: When pressing the power button to turn phone on, there is no samsung boot logo. the only thing that shows up is a black screen, [the backlight] it will stay that way until the battery dies.
i know it's not a problem with the display because i can get to the recovery screen by pressing the three buttons. i tried numerous wipes and factory resets, even tried to reboot from there. but it still wont boot up, it only ends up with that black screen. Also the green battery shows which further indicates that it's not a display problem.

That's basically all i know about this phone, i know it's a clone because on the hardware differences under the hood compared to the real S4. [it's probably a legend or a superking since it's from korea i think] im not sure which operating system it runs, from the looks of it i dont think it has one.
Some things i've tried: i downloaded android SDK, MTK droid tools, SP FLash tools, for some reason, i keep getting error 8200 in sp flash tools and mtk droid tools doesn't detect my phone. I tried flash updating firmware with adb sideload, it always ends up with an error ''aborted''. i can't enable usb debugging since the phone wont turn on.
I have searched alot on this but could not find anything on google or stack overflow.

View 1 Replies View RelatedI have now been using the samsung galaxy for a week now and there is only one factor that is letting down the phone for me and thats the lagging. I have no complaints about the camera even though its without the flash, the internet speed is top notch and the innovative swype makes life so much easier. However what irritates me is the time it takes to access an app or returning to the home page. It must take 30 seconds or more before the screen is loaded which is annoying when you want to do something in a hurry. This also occurs when someone is ringing me and I'm trying to answer, the phone freezes for 10 seconds. I,ve only downloaded around 10 apps so surely that cannot be the problem. I've got a week left before I have to come to a decision whether or not to keep the phone or return it back to vodafone and would like some advice or reassurance about this problem. Also out of interest I would like to know if anyone has encountered the same problem on the iphone 4. The one area in which the galaxy beats the iphone 4 is the price considering what you get with both however it may be worth it to use a phone that dosent lag.
