Is there a way to force the GPS on the Galaxy S to switch on?
I'm using Goggle Navigation and sometimes the GPS fails to switch on. I can get round it with 'turn it off - turn it on' and works first time, however, is there a way of just turning off the GPS and turning it back on, or forcing it on?

Very happy with the i9000 in the last few days of ownership, using launcher pro in place of stock but otherwise mostly unchanged. One issue we have is that after being at home overnight on WiFi, the phone doesn't automatically re enable 3g. To restore the mobile data you have to go into the network operator selection and re select Optus (our carrier here in Aus). Leaving it on auto doesn't help, and you have to manually choose it each time (ie: it "forgets" what I selected or something). Using apndroid to mangle the apn on/off doesn't help. Restarting the phone fixes it but obviously not ideal.
Have tried entering the code to change it to gsm only instead of the default wcdma/gsm auto with no benefit. When the mobile data is working, it happily switches between 2g and 3g, but will sometimes simply stop working as per the wifi overnight problem and I have to manually select the operator again. This happens very randomly and can go several days without drama, our only a few minutes. While this data won't connect, the phone capabilities aren't affected and you can make and receive calls fine. In fact if you dial a number it sometimes causes the data to re connect.
Not had my galaxy s long and want to use swype... I've done the tutorial but can't find where to switch it on.

Now I can't seem to switch 3G access back on. I've downloaded APNdroid, but I've clearly left something crucial switched off as 3G still not working. The instruction manual isn't very useful.

View 2 Replies View RelatedI am using GIO as wireless access point for my notebook, but in 90 % of cases when I am calling someone or someone is calling me it automatically switches to 2G and of course dropping internet connection.
When using it as AP its always connected to charger.
There is no option in stock rom to make it stay at 3G , there is only option to force 2G.
Was trying to uncover "secret" menu using "any cut" application but no luck with it.
I am using stock 2.3.4 Android , was trying 2.3.6 but there is no option to force 3G either.
I saw there is such menu to force 3G on SGS2 / SGN but not on GIO
How can I force Samsung Galaxy GIO to stay on 3G while talking with someone ?
I'm from Portugal and here we have some accentuated letters like "à á é ç ã õ".
When the system language is set to English and we insert one of these letters the SMS limit falls down from 160 charachters to 70 because it changes the encoding of the SMS .
What I would like to know is if it's possible to come with an hack to force the system to encode the SMS in a particular way so these kind of letters don't cut us 90 characters off the message.
Actually this is a problem in a lot of countries. Spain, France, Portugal, Italy, Brazil, Mexico, Argentina and the list goes on... Any country that speeks a latin language really.

View 3 Replies View RelatedFor whatever reason every browser I try reloads tabs when I leave the browser. It's REALLY annoying - I'm stuck on edge most of the time, and finding out that my tabs suddenly reload just because I switched to twitter for a second.
I tried to pretty much disable the LMK, and it still did this...
I tried Chrome, Browser Plus, stock ICS browser, Dolphin and Opera (which does this slightly less often) Last time I had this problem was on my old tablet with only 256 MB of RAM. (Which still did this less often than the Note on ICS)
Every time this happened, I had at least 120 MB of ram free. Seriously, the note has a full gigabyte of ram, and yet this happens.
This doesn't happen to me on GB.
Is there anything I can do to make browsing normal again? Like, exclude a browser from getting killed, or something? I'm using a Galaxy Note..
i have a samsung galaxy gio GT-S5660M Android version 2.3.4 build number GINGERBREAD.MUGKG3 (Stock rom gingerbread ) but it is rooted. ok so i was trying to free up some space on my internal memory and i was using titanium back up and i converted google play to a user app (it took too long so i assumed it didn't work) but i backup the google play. i was able to move it to sd card thought ,but then i still don't have enought free memory to receive text msg (20mb needed) so i did a factory reset which freed up everything. and i was still rooted ( i fixed it) but now google play won't open it gives me this message (process com,android,vending) so i downloaded a new com.android.vending but still won't work i tried the clear data it will open and i can search but whenever i try to download it will force close.

I created a vcf file and was able to import the contacts gmail however now when it downloads to the phone it put all the contacts under the group namegoogle rather than phone. Is there anyway to switch the contacts to get them listed under group phone?
Also how do you save attachments from an email? I was trying to save the vcf attachment and then import it into the phone but couldnt save the attachment.

View 5 Replies View RelatedI have a rooted Fascinate. After a second re-root my SF has been very buggy. My first root was successful. I messed something up trying to install voodoo and had to flash back to stock. Now, after a second buggy root I am faced with many freezes and FC's. (primarily in com.android.settings, but will float to various apps). Battery pulls don't seem to help. After a certain amount of using my phone, hopping WiFi, maps, email, just normal use, something will need to FC.
Within the next few days I plan on un-lagfixing my phone & un-rooting it. Ultimately I'd like to take it back stock and not root. This leads to my question: what is the best way to flash stock. I don't want anything left. I can tell there was something left from my first root because ads still do not show up. I had an ad block program installed on my first root.

View 1 Replies View RelatedEverytime i reboot my phone, I get bunch of problems with my phone. when I try to open the phone dialer I get a force close on com.google.process.acore. Sometimes it completely prevents me from using the phone.
Then on occasion the phone freaks out and shuts the screen off, but leaves the navigation lights on the bottom of the phone. At that point the phone is completely unusable for about 1-2minutes. Sometimes when it comes back on, it starts rerunning the media scanner.
I want to be able to set up my phone, Verizon Galaxy S4, to have different profiles, I guess you would say. For instance I want to be able to set up a home screen, wallpaper, launcher etc. to look real classy/minimal at times, then at other times I want everything on the home screen, different wallpapers, icons, etc. and maybe a different launcher to boot. A completely different look. I would like to be able to just switch between the setups quickly and at will. The more profiles supported the better..

Is there an app or setting to force the phone to "wake up" when a new notification comes in (gmail, sms, calendar, etc...). I find it easy to miss notifications when the phone is locked and it would be nice for the screen to turn on when a new notification is received.
View 4 Replies View RelatedI got a Samsung Galaxy S, through Bell and it has 2.2 on it... it has a feature that allows me to end applications like going CTRL+ALT+DEL in windows, because it shows the battery usage so it makes me a little more concerned about that, but anyways now some apps are force closing, crashing sometimes.. is it best to not force close any apps? has anyone had the same problem for the same reason? Some apps i just cant "quit" like in windows.
View 4 Replies View RelatedMy device is a Galaxy Y, and has no official support from both the CM7 or the MIUi teams. There is CM7 build by a developer here on the XDA device thread, but it isn't completely stable due to lack of closed source drivers from Qualcomm.
Since MIUi is only available on MDPI and above devices, I have resorted to taking files from other ports for LDPI devices.
I was very successful in booting a release of MIUi I had made the previous day, but the browser kept encountering FC errors. There is already a port of MIUi available on my device forum, and that has the same problem too. I have taken a logcat, but I am completely lost as to why it keeps FCing.
Here is a segment of the logcat that is relevant to the issue at hand.

View 6 Replies View RelatedI have this problem with my friends galaxy ace GT-S5839i: here because I don't know what to do I pulled the file framework-res.apk from system and then changed the extension to zip, and changed an image inside one of the folders.
After that I zipped the pack again (tried several zip options) and changed the extension back to apk My first question: Is this ok?
I copied the changed file to sdcard and using es explorer moved the file to system/framework. Imediately After answering if I wanted to overwrite the phone freezes and never booted again.
I restored the rom and tried several times with same result I tought the problem would be trying to overwrite a file that's in use but then I found a tool the decompiled the original apk, changed the image, compiled and signed it and made a flashable zip of it.
It gsve always error in trying to flash this on recovery so I extrated the compiled and signed new framwork apk and moved it to system with es explorer... The difference now is that it didn't froze the phone but started to show fc's everywhere. Rebooted, wipede cash and dalvik, messed up woth permissions... Everything I could think of and the result os always tbe same...
i don't have in my home a WIFI ROUTER and i don' have DATA 3g so my only option surfing the net and enter MARKET from my galaxy s is if i can some how when connected in USB to my GALAXY s get my PC internet to my GALAXY S. till now i conected my phone and pressed "PC INTERNET" it made a network connection ..yes ....but nothing happans i still can't surf the internet from my phone and...my regular pc internet stopped working when i;m still connected with the usb ' when i take it out it's or back to NORMAL i got XP sp2. is it even possible to do or i'm just spending my time
