Samsung Fascinate :: Google Search Widget Download It From Another Phone?
Sep 9, 2010I hear that the google search widget is blocked on the fascinate in the market place. Can't you just download it from the marketplace on another phone and copy it to the MicroSD and install it on the fascinate?

"We've been working on this story since yesterday in regards to the Verizon Samsung Fascinate, A Galaxy S Phone. After the Samsung Galaxy release event in late June we discovered, as the rest of you did, that Bing would be the search on the fascinate. We pinged Verizon spokeswoman, back on July 1, 2010 who gave us this reply: We also have a great relationship with Microsoft and Bing is the default search engine on our feature phones. Customers may change the search engine on their phones if they like. However after careful review of the Samsung Fascinate we found that the Google Search" bar is not in the Android Widgets menu, nor can you access it from market. Also we tried several of the Google Seach bar and have not been able to get those to work either. These are working on the Captivate, and Vibrant as side loads. Here where the story gets interesting. 2 of our Verizon tipsters, including the one who substantiated those HTC Merge photos back on August 4th, have told us that Verizon is dropping the Google Search from all future Android Devices and offering Bing in it place. We were under the impression that Verizon is committed to the entire Google/Android experience."

Sep 24, 2010i got the phone i have not used the stock launcher, i've always used launcher pro, but today i started having force closes, i have turned the phone off, done a battery pull, uninstalled and installed again. But i am still having force closes, i have not even been able to run launcherpro, i just get a black screen and a force close. Any tips on what to do will be helpful, i tried ADW and dont like it very much, i am using stock right now.

Sep 12, 2010I'm using the Fascinate and LauncherPro (free).I've dropped shortcuts (by long pressing home screen, add shortcut) to my favorite Apps around the home screens.Well, after a reboot the shortcut custom/built-in icons 'disappear.' They become stock android icons.After some troubleshooting, I noticed that if I open up the [place where all the apps are stored] and long press dragged them to the home screen I want, they will retain the proper icon after reboot.

Nov 17, 2010I was using the plus version of LP, but it seemed to run pretty slow on my phone. Usually with menu selections (aka widget selection, or app selection when long pressing on the screen). The widgets also didn't update properly etc.I'm curious though is it might of been some advanced settings that I didn't play with. I typically just did an install setup my dock and homescreen, but never touched the advanced settings.Does anyone have some advanced settings they could share? Also my phone isn't rooted, would that cause all the lag with it? Cause honestly TW runs fine.

Oct 13, 2010I finally got the answer to what the D icon is by verizon techs which stand for Digital signal in regards to calling not data. This should be on in most cases right? meaning that if your not seeing this D then your using an analog signal which could contribute to the poor call quality for some.When I first got the Fascinate this D showed up every ones in a while but then did the *228 option 2 then I got this constant D which lead me to this quest to find out what it was. Now the question is does every one get this icon in a consistent bases?

Sep 23, 2010Ok, this is my question...What does a phone have to have to be considered a Droid by VZW? It's not a moto thing because the Incredible has the Droid name attached to it, and it's an HTC phone. I would think all Android Phones put out by vzw would carry the name. Is the Fascinate not EVIL enough for the Robotic, Terminator marketing, and instead they use a merry go round conveyor belt with a bunch of Fascinates attached to it for commercials and marketing? My fear is that the Fascinate will get left behind, and the attention will go towards phones with the Droid name. When I say left behind I mean updates and what not, and just plain love from Google, considering the whole BING fiasco and how that must have pissed of Google.

Oct 4, 2010I rooted my Samsung Fascinate. Installed Titanium Backup and managed to uninstall some bloatware.
I would like to remove the text "Verizon Wireless" from my pattern lock screen and replace it with my name.
When I rooted my HTC Eris and loaded KoasFroyo I encountered a similar situation where that ROM made it say Team AndIRC. I was able to do what I wanted by replacing eri.xml.
When I try to use ADB to push that same eri.xml file to my Fascinate I get an access denied error. Can anyone tell me how to do this? Any guidance would be appreciated. Since the phone is locked I want my name available on the front in case it is ever lost.

Oct 6, 2010I'm curious why anyone would use the Google Search box (and take up that home screen space) when all you have to do is press the magnifying glass for the same feature (and on any home screen, without having to scroll back to the widget). A long-press opens voice search, so I see no benefit in even using the widget at all.

Sep 22, 2010I was rooted and and had lagfix on my fascinate. Then I decided to download the new update from verizon today. After the update the update screen kept on popping up even after I already installed it. Then I found out that my apps that require root like autokiller and setcpu did not work anymore even though I still hade the superuser app. So I rooted my phone again restarted it and the apps worked again then I decided I wanted to do the clockworkmod installation thing so I could make my phone flashable, the instructions recommended that i remove lag fix so I took my phone plugged it into the pc and went to my ryan lagfix folder whatever on my desktop and clicked on the unlagfixme.bat thing and at the end it had some errors or something even mentioning the Innopath Activecare in it which was for some reason probably why it didnt work. So I decided to try it again and it didnt work. Then I rebooted the phone and I saw the samsung logo and then black screen!

Sep 17, 2010I'm wondering if this is a common verizon thing or a phone thing.Every time the verizon signal is lost or detected my music pauses for a split second. this becomes very annoying while commuting to and from work everyday underground where the signal is lost and gained about 17 times due to the depth of the subway. how can i fix this? this is not an email sync issue but a carrier signal detection issue.

1) Is there a way to load the keyboard when in contacts to type in the person's name to do quick searches instead of clicking the letter on the side or scrolling all the time?
2) When groups are created in Google contacts through gmail, it will appear on the phone, but it will not list the contacts in that group on the phone as it does on gmail's contacts. When trying to do it on the phone itself, when click on add contact for the group, it only lists contacts that are not assigned. How to I configure this?

Nov 22, 2010When I use Bing voice search, I always get the following message "due to a temporary connection or service issue, we can't get results. Please try again later." This has been an issue over the last 10 days or so. Anyone else have this problem? I brought it to Verizon tech and they couldn't figure it out. Google voice search works fine. I speak loudly and clearly in a quiet environment, using different search terms.
