I hear that the google search widget is blocked on the fascinate in the market place. Can't you just download it from the marketplace on another phone and copy it to the MicroSD and install it on the fascinate?

I am leaning toward the fascinate but want to know how to get google search on touchwiz because i don't want to switch launchers. I don't like adw or launcher pro. If I have to switch launchers to get google, I'll just get the X.

It locked up and perma-black screened after rooting and installing launcher pro, so I tried to use the backup from Odin to save it. Saved the phone. Seems to work. The verizon backup option successfully restores her contact info.I can't get it to sync with her google account, and I am LOSING MY MIND because I have to leave early tomorrow morning, and I don't want to leave my sis. with a broken phone.And where in the heck do you get the oft-mentioned "update.zip" file from?
View 7 Replies View RelatedI'm curious why anyone would use the Google Search box (and take up that home screen space) when all you have to do is press the magnifying glass for the same feature (and on any home screen, without having to scroll back to the widget). A long-press opens voice search, so I see no benefit in even using the widget at all.

so I just re-flashed my CM11 ROM again. It just bothers me because its always sending out packet data and utilizing my cpu even in background...i thought it would be easy. my galaxy express sgh-i437 only has a dual core 1.5ghz.
That's the widget below on the screen, but every time I press it just goes to the Google search page or if I hold it it just opens up Nova Launcher actions. Is there a way to do it from the homescreen using voice?

1) Is there a way to load the keyboard when in contacts to type in the person's name to do quick searches instead of clicking the letter on the side or scrolling all the time?
2) When groups are created in Google contacts through gmail, it will appear on the phone, but it will not list the contacts in that group on the phone as it does on gmail's contacts. When trying to do it on the phone itself, when click on add contact for the group, it only lists contacts that are not assigned. How to I configure this?
When I use Bing voice search, I always get the following message "due to a temporary connection or service issue, we can't get results. Please try again later." This has been an issue over the last 10 days or so. Anyone else have this problem? I brought it to Verizon tech and they couldn't figure it out. Google voice search works fine. I speak loudly and clearly in a quiet environment, using different search terms.

1. Launch my application, and click back. 2. Enter keyword in google search widget, i..e 'a', and launch it. Everything works fine. 3. Press Home. 4. Enter keyword in google search widget, i..e 'b', and launch it. But my application still got 'a' from getIntent() method.
The problem seems to be caused by activity life cycle. For step.4, only onRestart -> onStart -> onResume -> ... is called so that I can't get the launching intent from google search widget. The bug goes away if I finish my application in onStop method. (But it will cause problem for landscape<-> portraint switch since onStop is also invoked when switching screen). Is there any way to get the query string from google search widget for this scenario? Or did I miss any setting in AndroidManifest.xml?

View 6 Replies View RelatedI don't know why, but when I type something into the Google search widget, it will open up a browser, I think Google Now, and then when I click on a link, it will open the link in Chrome, but in Incognito mode! I don't know how to stop it from doing this, and just open links in regular Chrome.
Have tried closing Chrome + Incognito tabs, restarting device, uninstalling Chrome (which isn't possible).
I use this button all the time on my DINC for voice commands, usually things like locate .... and it pops up google maps and shows me what I'm looking for. Since Bing is the search engine of choice on the Fascinate, what function will holding down the button serve? Will it still allow Google Voice commands? If not, I think that's a deal breaker for me.

I setup my @gmail account and one of my @myprivatedomain.com emails in the gmail app and regular email app on my phone. I like using the gmail app as my email app since it auto syncs and you dont have to open and wait for sync like you do w/ the regular email app.Now I can't setup my @myprivatedomain.com emails in the gmail app. I don't understand on the Adroid phones why email setup is so hard. I had one hell of a time on the X and Inc setting up email. Very buggy and intermittent does anyone know what "your phone may not be provisioned for data services" means?
Reset my phone about an hour ago and haven't been able to d/l anything since. About to call Verizon. Ok, just noticed the similar threads above mine.

The BB gave me the option of either streaming or downloading videos, I loved that. Could someone please tell me how to download videos to the SF? Please tell me wht apps I may need or what settings to change. I am lost at this point.
View 1 Replies View RelatedI'm rooted and just flashed Super Clean rom from Rom Manager. When I go to update current apps or download new ones, it says "Starting download..." and never stops! After looking this problem up and reading other people's posts who have had similar problems, I've tried clearing all cache and data related to any Google-based app. I've done multiple nandroid backups over the past few weeks and have tried restoring back to them. I've tried factory data reset both from Settings-->Privacy and also from recovery mode in CWM. I'm out of ideas.
