Today my phone (Sprint Epic DI18) sounded a notificatiom and I was surprised to see a facebook icon on my status bar that told me that I had a new message from a friend.
AFIK, this option wasn't implemented yet. Is this starting to roll out now?

I just got the Epic 4G and I'm confused about how to make my facebook notifications show up AND how can I add a hotmail account and see that I received a new email? I'm confused! I have gmail but the icon won't show how many emails--only on the top left..
View 6 Replies View RelatedI have had my Epic 4g for two days now and I am having the some notification and email problems. I don't get notifications when new email is available. I only get my email to show up on my inbox on my phone ONLY when i open email. I currently have it set to to check email every 5 minutes but this is obviously not happening. and i dont get a blinking LED when i get a SMS, Text message.

I do not seem to have any LED notifications for anything? Is there one on/off toggle for all apps for this? I have reset my phone once and never seen the LED light up?

View 2 Replies View RelatedThere appears to be a problem with some android phones where even if the sms notifications are off they still pop up in the bar.Has anyone figured out how to turn this off on The Epic 4G.Ive been to messaging app and then also to system setting and I have not been able to get this off. I wanna use handcent but i get the dual notification problem.
View 10 Replies View RelatedI fought for quite a while trying to add custom ringtones to the epic, don't know why they make it so difficult. Anyway, create a two folders on you phone called "notifications" and "ringtones" these can either be in the root dir of your sd card or nested in another folder. Apperantly it for these it searches for folder names instead of file type. I have my nested in another folder called media. I use this for all external media I add to phone.
Also remember that the phone will find pictures by file type. So any pictures you put anywhere on your sdcard will show up in gallery. This makes it real easy to create folders for sorting pics. If you don't want a certain folder to show up in the gallery just put a "." in the beginning of the name. Then when you want it to show up in the gallery go to the folder, delete the period at the beginning of the name and there it is in gallery. So folder name "confidential pics" will show in gallery but folder name ".confidential pics" wont show up in gallery. I use Astro for changing the folder names on the phone and it works pretty good.
anyone know how to edit the type of vibrate associated with notifications? for instance for emails it uses the notification ringtone, but only has an option to vibrate and it uses the long vibrate. i want to change the vibrate to just a short one. i was able to do this on my hero. i just cant find the option anywhere.

I was wondering if the Epic lockscreen shows any indications of unread items (particular SMS text messages)? Also, if music is being played, does it show music controls on the lockscreen so that you dont have to unlock the screen and go to the music app before being able to control music?
Is there anyway to get the notifications to be louder than the ones installed with the phone? I can't hear them when I have the phone in my pocket, any help will be deeply appreciated.
I can barely hear the ring tone much less the notifications and I downloaded songs but that doesn't increase the volume for them.
I am wondering how I can get my gmail to refresh itself and notify me of emails? I have all of the gmail settings figured out (including email notifications), but I always have to manually go in and refresh to see if my inbox has been updated.

Or are the only notifications given on the actual chomp icon? (I don't want to have two notifications.) I was also wondering if I would still be able to use the "speak to text" feature that the stock app has? Lastly, there is a set of permanent icons on the home screen (phone, contacts, messaging, apps). When I click messaging, would it go to chomp?

The only time I see that there's an update, is when that application is actually opened. This unit is set to update at the minimum.

The stock messaging app won't stop notifications even if they're turned off...even if the app is deleted? If mms.apk is installed, it keeps notifying me even though it's notifications is turned off. If I remove mms.apk it keeps notifying me that I have 0 new messages. I've tried rebooting, reinstalling and removing. I'm running a sdx kitchen rom with meatkernel 2.0.9/no jit and I have ChompSMS installed. I don't understand how the app can keep notifying me if it's uninstalled? Other than this, the rom has been rock solid with good bat life, so I don't want to flash to stock and start all over for the 5th time this week.

2. Is there anyway to get push notifications with emails and facebook. Im always having to check my email to see if I have any.
3. What happens when I fill up all 7 pages with apps? Will I not be able to download anymore?
Been lurking all over google, and the forums but to no avail. Is there solutions to receiving push notifications for facebook on SGS? I've set my settings to receive notifications, but so far I've set my notifications to come to my email. I've heard from someone that google and facebook are having some sort of differences. Anyone have any solutions?

View 9 Replies View RelatedI am running into a peculiar issue with an app which has multiple Activities.I have a screen manager class that is bound to a service.The service polls a server for data.The screen manager starts Activity A, B, or C, based on the data.It will also allow the user to select to display the other Activities or it may swap out an Activity automatically based on new data from the service.Currently all the navigation works great and if the user presses Home, the applicable Activity comes back to the foreground when the user presses the apps icon from the Android home screen or the recently run apps list.I then had to implement a new feature to display an icon and notification.I first implemented this by only displaying the notification when the Activities were no longer visible by setting it in each Activities on Pause.Worked like a charm and gave the user a third option to redisplay the app after Home button press.However if the data from the server (when the app is not displayed) causes the screen manager to update the Activity to be displayed I have issues. I think my Activity stack is getting screwed up.I have since tried a little different model where the screen Manager handles the notifications and always displays the notification, updating it with a new Intent whenever an Activity is updated, but its still not cutting it.
When the app is minimized and the data changes I can see the screen manager call the startActivityForResult on the new Activity and it seems like Android knows we are minimized and does not display the Activity. I can then also the screen Manager call to finish on the old top Activity.Each Activity currently has the flag set to singleTop in the manifest and FLAG_ACTIVITY_SINGLE_TOP in the code. When the data hasn't changed on the server, I pull the app back up using any of the above I get what I expect and the Activity's onNewIntent is called. However when the data has changed and the user calls up the app via the notification it calls the Activities onCreate. The Activity does come up and runs, but then pressing back takes me to what seems like another instance of the same Activity instead of exiting. I just took a closer look at my logcat and I see 2 calls to the Activity's onResume, but then no doubles after that.
I was wandering if anybody could help me with the email notification problem im currently having. Iphones and blackberrys all give you a notification when you receive a new email or a new facebook message. The galaxy s does nothing when you receive a new mail. In settings you can select a ringtone, set it to vibrate when you receive a message. But nothing happens. The only way to find out if there any new messages is by clicking on the email app ( in which i am using hotmail).
