Ok, so i go to check running services and i see that sprint hotspot is running. i have not started it since the day i bought the phone. i have no intention of using it, for now. why is it running and how can i stop it from starting? is it supposed to be running?

So sometimes I'll go into my contacts and notice that some of them have the green ball lit up telling me that they are online in gtalk. Now I am not signed onto gtalk... but yet somehow I see that in my running services that GTalkService is running.
I can only assume that its eating away battery trying to see how is online and not. I certainly don't need this info unless I wish to go online myself... in which case I would actually go into the gtalk app.
ANyways, obviously i've been killing it in the running services, but it just comes back all on its own. ANy idea why or how to stop it?
I have the kill app program, but that doesn't work automatically. The best way is to kill the unnecessary apps that load when the phone starts and persistently load themselves at intervals.Is there a way or an apk to download to select the apps that we allow to auto-run? All without rooting, if at all possible.
View 2 Replies View RelatedIs there a way I can test if there are any other activities in my app still alive? I am looking to stop a service in an onDestroy method, but only want to do this if there are no other activities from my app still alive on the stack.
I have the call stop the service in the main activity's onDestroy() method. This works perfect EXCEPT that if a user launches my app, then launches a few activities in my app, then hits the home screen and RELAUNCHES my app, they will subvert my order and the main activity will now be above other activities of my app. From this state, if they hit the back button and 'back out' of my home screen they will trigger the onDestroy() method and kill the service even though there are other activities open on the stack. I want to avoid this by stopping the service ONLY if I am sure there are no other activities of mine open on the stack.
Is there an API, or a registry I can do in the manifest to make sure my service is being run at the device start up and being shut down before the device shuts off?
View 3 Replies View RelatedI was excited to use the new phone specifically for the wifi hotspot. I could not believe when it did not work right away that I needed to tack an extra 30 a month in order for sprint to activate the thing.
So I am wondering if there is a better way to use the phone as a wifi hotspot without haveing to eat the service charge. I seen something about a way that involved root access which I could probably do but I was hoping there was a better way or maybe going to be a better way with android 2.2?
I can't even break 1MBps download on my iPad with it on 4G. I get 8MBps on the phone. I've read that the EVO is much better at it.

The wifi router/hot spot option is an additional $30 a month and I don't anticipate I will need the option often enough to justify the cost. Is there an option to tether epic4g without the wifi hot spot option?

View 13 Replies View RelatedToday, I set my Epic to 4G Hotspot activation. Then I setup my Apple Itouch to connect WiFi with my Epic. I ran Speedtest.net app on my Itouch. This is with my Epic connected to 4G.

Are these good speeds Hotspot? It seems like Download is kinda slow, although Upload speed seems good. With the same tower and still connected with my Itouch (but Itouch not running any program), my Epic got:

I'm newly rooted and all seems to work fine. Can I use the embedded sprint HotSpot widget or is there another out there available? I can associate to the Sprint HotSpot and pull an IP address, but cannot surf.

View 11 Replies View RelatedHours later and almost out of power (started out with 75%), I turned the phone off. The email I received had 29 attachments and was 1.9 MB in size, and it loaded fairly quickly. But when I tried to forward it, I gave up after letting it grind away for a few hours. Couldn't figure out how to cancel an out going email, so I turned the phone off, and back on again. That stopped it from forwarding and placed it in the out box. I guess upload speeds with 3G really do suck. I can't wait for 4G. Turning the phone on and off did not stop it from trying to forward. Need help trying to figure out how to stop an outgoing email.
View 4 Replies View RelatedWhen my Epic boots off a fresh restart I have approximately 140M of Ram available but over the next day for so it drops to as low as 60M and I will notice sometimes when i kill apps with ATK it kills 22 apps and then it will raise my RAM up to ~120. It seems that when my ram runs lows it shuts off my live wallpaper and reverts to the standard. My question is why do all these programs load and eat up the RAM when i have never used them. IE media hub, amazon mp3 , qik etc etc they all just start on their own running in the background. Is there anyway to get them to stop loading and is killing all of them at once a bad idea?

View 15 Replies View RelatedOK, like most here I'm struggling a bit with battery life. Last night for example I was 100% charged when I went to sleep, woke up to the phone at 72%. So yeah, nearly 30% battery lost simply sitting there doing nothing.So, I have just now killed off the DRM service and media hub in running services in hopes that my issue is what others have experienced.
However... I routinely notice many other apps running in my task killer "Advance Task Killer Free". Just now for example I just shut everything down. I sent a text message to the wife, and now the following apps are once again running:
Voice Dialer
Media Hub
Amazon MP3
There are others that I actually want going, JuiceDefender, SysTray Monitor... but what is up with these above?? I am CONSTANTLY seeing them run. Is there a way to shut these down for good? Why are they starting up on their own? Does anyone know if this is a part of my battery issues?
so I ending up having to do a Factory Reset (after only 3-days), and now I am having to input ALL my contacts again manually - After much searching on Google, I found that Sprint does offer a FREE backup service, however, it's NOT available on the Epic yet - I mean really?!? *rolls eyes* So, are there any other safe + free services out there to backup my contacts? I'd much rather use Sprint's Mobile Sync service, but that may be a ways off yet.

I need to shut down the service on background.Except the service restarts itself over and over again! Even if I kill the program from task manager the service restarts itself. Other programs aren't using the service. when I uninstalled the program the foreground program information popped up indicating it was STILL there(albeit this I solved by rebooting phone).
When user says he's finished with the program 'least he can expect is for the program to stay down rather than keep eating battery by acquiring GPS signal and sending them to server. The program is not intended to be "once you log in you need to Uninstall me and reboot phone to get rid of me!" type of program!
I have an EVO and I have a problem with it. I downloaded the app Advanced Task Killer to take care of apps running in the background. However sometimes when I pull it up I find that things like Sprint Navigation, Qik, Voice Dialer, and sometimes others are running without me pulling them up. My question is, how do I keep these apps from doing this, because they kill my battery when they come on and I don't know it?
