Every time I try to do a software update from my captivate it tells me....Communication error. Try again later. Does it do this because there is no current updates or because there's an issue with my phone or network?

When I select the software update option from settings, to see if there are any ATT firmware updates, I get an error message that the phone is unable to connect with ATT servers. I have been getting this error each time I have tried it for the last several weeks.

View 3 Replies View RelatedIf your download fully cancels in the middle, do not resume the download. When you try to resume - the phone will think you want to resume installation [it thinks the download is complete] and will update the phone with the partial firmware download. For those phones that were bricked, that is what was said happened to them - myself included. Now, why would the update not realize the firmware isn't complete and just abort the update is beyond me. Many of us ended up with paperweights from that. Had to go to AT&T to replace the phone last night.

There have been several days where I wake up, check email on wifi, then head out and turn off wifi and then get no network signal.It shows bars but doesn't show the little 3g symbol with the arrows lighting up.Any help would be much appreciated!
View 17 Replies View RelatedFor the past few weeks ive been trying to do a software update on my phone. i know 2.2 isnt available yet, but i just wanted to give it a try for sh!ts n giggles. my old captivate that i returned was able to connect to the att server and gave me a message saying that there are no updates available. the new captivate i have wont even connect to the att server. it sucks that i have to wait 24hours until i can try again. everytime ive done it, it gives me that error message. anyone else having this issue? i thought being rooted and having the one click lag fix was the problem so i undid the lag fix and unrooted, but i still got the same error message. im worried that when 2.2 is available, i wont be able to get it since i cant even connect to the att server.

From looking on forums it appears it's because I mistakenly deleted the GTalk (Google Talk app). I'm trying to reinstall it but can't find the apk files for it and probably shouldn't tinker with it much more.

Worked great! Simple, and not much to it. I have the Superuser Permissions app in my app list.This morning I installed the android sdk and the drivers from the samsung website, enabled usb debugging on my phone, connected the phone, and did the following in my cmd prompt:.C:android-sdk-windows yes, that is the correct location of the android sdk folder) but all i'm getting is 'error: device not found'. I tried uninstalling my drivers and doing it again, this time connected to a different USB port, and still the same thing. Anyone have any insights? I'm able to successfully connect my phone to my machine and view it like a storage device (drag folders around, etc)

I also have my itouch with me and after it connects with hotel server, a sign-on screen comes up and I enter the server password.
Can't get the Captivate to supply a sign-on screen. Is there some other way to enter the server password that was supplied to me?

View 1 Replies View RelatedI have 3 email accounts on my Captivate, 2 gmail and My purdue email account. I can send and receive through both the gmail accounts but the Purdue one will not send no matter what settings I try. According to the school the outgoing settings need to be
IMAP
TSL enabled
port 587
require log in
I have tried TSL, SSL (both regular and accept all certs) login and no login and a few other settings. Done 2 battery pulls and re composing the message countless times. It just stays in my outbox. WiFi on and off. When I go into the outbox, I press on the "Send outgoing messages button" and it blinks like I pressed it, but it doesn't immediately try to send the email, have to wait another 2-4 minutes before it decides it wants to try and connect to the server. When it does finally try to send the email it tries for about 30 seconds then comes back with "connection error" and gives up. Also none of my email accounts will automatically check for email like I have them set to do. I have them set to check every 5 minutes and it seems like some check every 4 hours and others will only manually check. Its inconsistent at best.
The email issues for this phone are really making me regret the purchase.
Okay -- so I finally mustered up the courage to root and try a lag fix. I rooted using the unleash the beast files. And then tried the lag fix over at XDA found here: xda-developers - View Single Post - [UTIL] One Click Lag Fix 2.0
I ran the lagfix_ext2, like the forum says -- it took about 10 minutes to do some things ...There was an error message in the middle saying that it had to stop the process. I said okay, but the process kept working, finished, and then rebooted. It booted up, and I downloaded quadrant again (it was gone for some reason), ran it, and only ran an 895 -- this is 16 points less than what i ran just using the unleash the beast. Should I try the lag fix again?
Anyone get this when trying to check for updates on a ROOTED captivate?
Wonder what it means? It won't let me check for updates...wonder if its because of the root?

Alright so i am trying to get the Evo keyboard up here on the captivate but i keep getting this error message
any ideas as to why and what to do?
It gets to the point of "verifying update package" and then says a bunch of other stuff (can't read it as this step and the next happen too quickly), and then in red says "Error in data/fota/(then I don't know what it says here because it reboots)." It powers back up and then tries to run the update process on its own again. I can cancel out of that and it works fine, but I'm just wondering why it won't update. No other root users have had trouble, right?

But the thing is right after i try one of those things i wait a minute or so then open up the browser and have a fine a connection.

Now when I close out of the text message and try to go back and serbs something the persons number shows up as only 7 digits. When I try to send a text with only the 7 numbers I get a return error message saying
8852662 Error Invalid Number. Please re-send using a valid 10 digit mobile number.
So here's my problem I keep trying to do the OTA update but I keep getting the same mesg communication to the server failed try back 24hrs,I did the manual date change trick twice and that did not work now it says 71hrs before I try again.

I hit download and it does it but when it goes to install it says 'error installing' and button for Retry... I've tried doing this several times.. Couple of questions .. Do I have to do this ? If I do do this will Sprint be charging me to use this ? Finally WHY am i getting this error? My phone has been fine since earlier in the year since I got it ..

So a week later I wanted to check again, when I do it says connection failed or something similar. Now each time it does this I have to wait 24hrs befor I can retry. Tonight was the 4th try. I've attempted this from different locations both with good 3G signal.
