Late for work due to my cell phone alarm not going off. I know its a sad excuse lol, I have a alarm clock. However somehow I manage to shut off my cell phone in my sleep or occasionally in my pocket. Is there a app to make it perhaps one extra step to shutting down the phone?

Bought the Captivate on launch day. I had problems with the battery, phone restarting by itself, buttons at the bottom would not register when pushed. Took that Captivate back yesterday and exchanged it for a new one. The new one I got works much better. Little to no lag, buttons are working properly, and the battery is much better. Used it until about 3% of battery was left then put the charger in. Fully charged by midnight, unplugged it and went to sleep. Woke up this morning to find out the phone shut itself off last night. I woke up and tried to check my emails but the screen would not turn on. Held the power button and the phone turned on as if it was just starting it up. I bought my phone from a authorized AT&T reseller so I'm hoping they'll let me exchange it for another one again.
I called Samsung tech support but they weren't much of a help. They said I can send it in for repair or take it back to where I got it for another exchange. My phone is not rooted and not tampered with in anyway. I downloaded all the same apps for it which were only about 6 so far. The only new one I did download was one of those Sense Digital Clock ones and put the widget on my home screen. Other than that the phone is set up just like my previous one. I deleted the Sense Digital Clock app so maybe that was the culprit? I really do not want to take this one back again as the one shut down is the only problem. I'm going to wait a couple days to see what happens. My 30 days are up on the 17th so if it keeps on shutting down I'm taking this one back.
My phone shut off randomly for the first time this morning luckily it didn't shut off early in the morning as I use my captivate as an alarm clock for my 8 am class. Anyway, I was just wondering if I should be worried? I've only had it for two weeks so I can still get a replacement phone but up until today I had no severe problems. Gps worked fine, battery life was good. I do experience some lag at times. For example, I'll click on messages and I'll have a black screen for ten seconds until my messages come up. Just wondering if I should be worried since it shut down for the first time if I end up having to get a replacement phone I feel like I'll only have the same problems since this is a common problem. I don't want to have to get an iphone, to be honest, I played around with it at the apple store the other day and I wasn't impressed. The captivate has so much more features and the home screen on the iphone just bores me. But the iphone works straight out of the box.

View 2 Replies View RelatedI am on my 2nd captivate and the first had its own series of issues but in a week i never had it shut it self down(though it did randomly restart). This new one after a couple days shut it self off twice today.i noticed it was not untill i turned on the automatic wifi off in Juicedefender. i turned off the Wifi auto shut off and did not have the issue return(I have not tried turing it back on to reproduce the issue). Now i have no proof this is connected. and could simply be luck. what i am asking is for those with this issue are you using juicedefender(ultimate)? and is your Auto wifi on or off?
View 12 Replies View RelatedI cant get my music player to shut down. This happens periodically and it gets really annoying (and embarrassing when Im in class). I searched and read the only way to shut it down is to use the exit/return at the full screen music player and then go to your app killer. Even if I follow these steps and then unplug my headphones the music player will usually 'turn back on' and start playing music at full blast out of my speaker..How can I kill this thing once and for good? btw im using advanced task killer.
View 4 Replies View RelatedAnyone else running into this issue? The alarm goes off on time but pressing snooze or trying to shut it off is ineffective. Even frantically mashing the side buttons and hot keys doesn't stop it. Honestly, I don't even know how I eventually get it to shut off, but I do.
This is not a pleasant way to wake up.

View 15 Replies View RelatedI had pretty bad battery life today, took off the charger at 11:30, just plugged in at 15% 11 hours later, with a short charge in the car on the way to a late lunch. No text messages, no emails, no phone calls . I got a few apps off the market, did a little web surfing, & watched one 4 minute youtube video. This is my first Android phone, I had a HTC Touch Pro before this. BTW - The lack of comms today is because I'm not working right now, but in the middle of federal hiring process with the next appointment on the 13th, wish me luck. Bluetooth, GPS, and wifi are always off. Screen brightness is left at the lowest level. This is all shown with the Power Control widget on a home screen. I also have the Samsung Program Monitor widget on the same screen, and nothing stays running. Auto sync is always off, I rarely actually use gmail. The stock email app is set to check two other email accounts every hour.
I tried a little test, but just don't know what to make of it. I have Battery Monitor and Android Manager Free installed. Whenever I mention Task Manager, I accessed it through AMF. Before beginning, I removed the Weather Channel widget from the home screen and terminated the app in the Task Manager. I had installed a BBC news app today, but uninstalled before testing; it automatically updated a couple times today and showed up in Task Manager after I terminated it. I made sure Background Data was turned off, I generally only turn it back on when I launch the Market (gives a popup saying it needs it). I plugged the charger in with the phone at 26% charge, just for a minute to reset the last time unplugged. Using Battery Monitor (which apparently just shortcuts to the built-in Android battery monitoring screens found through Settings) I checked the status periodically, along with seeing what was active in Task Manager. Every 5 to 10 minutes I would press the power button to turn on the display, then check Battery history - Since last unplugged. I'd check the Task Manager, terminate Battery Monitor and AMF, then press the power button to turn the screen off............
The .6 update that is meant to fix the memory card problem pops up on my phone like twice a day. If I download it AND install it, it doesn't take. The same FOTA update is detected again the next day, and the next day, and the next. I don't have any memory card issues. But I'm wondering how to make my rooted phone accept FOTA updates. View 4 Replies View Relatedwhen you put the phone up to your face while talking i know it has the sensor that shuts off the screen, my question is does anyone else seem like it hesistates a while after you take the phone off your ear? If i call a number that requires me to enter numbers it seems like it takes a good 3 or 4 seconds for the screen to turn back on. I know it doesnt seem like a lot but some of these calls if you dont enter the number right away they start asking questions over then i do hit a number and its the wrong one so its a pain in the a$$. I came from a palm pre which was virtually instantaneous once i took the phone off my ear. So i guess im wondering if this is a problem with just my phone or all moments and is there a fix for it?

Actually its with my wife's phone, we both have Moments, mine works great but hers frequently (not all the time) doesn't shut off during phone calls. At first I thought she was just holding it strange but I have seen it for myself and its quite frustrating. The biggest issue is that its an intermittent problem so of course it never happens when at the Sprint store asking about replacing the phone. I did the recent update to the phone and it still does it. Any way to fix this short of getting a new one?
View 5 Replies View RelatedI took the plunge and finally rooted my phone (hand clap!!). I flashed a custom kernel (by NETARCHY[4.0.3a]). At 1st everything worked fine (followed EarlyMon's "How to Fix FROYO"---since i lost all my data). The following day i tried another kernel (baked kernel #5). That kernel didnt work to well on my phone so I reflashed NETARCHY's kernel. When i noticed that my battery was draining quickly, i looked in my SPARE PARTS and noticed that my phone is not sleeping---problem is I dont know what it is. Do i need to do a hard reset again---or should i flash another kernel?? Stuck between a rock and a hard place

View 1 Replies View RelatedA few days ago I after reading some threads on reboots and decided to check the awake time and found that phone wasnt sleeping. Battery life wasnt affected all that bad I thought, lasting throughout the day, however I did an FDR reloaded only a few programs and the problem went away (along with the reboots that occurred nearly everytime I started navigator and only navigator). Battery life was exceptional afterwards, still having at least 60% remaining after unplugging around 8 am and checking later than 7pm
I reloaded the following apps
Shazam
xing barcode scanner
LED desire
Google Earth
Spare Parts, and just now sys panel lite.
Today I experienced another reboot, checked awake time and found it to be at 100% again. After unplugging at 8am and checking at 7 pm, battery remaining is at 36%, way under normal (im usually at 60%+ with heavier usage). Very moderate use today , maybe a dozen short calls, a couple emails, no browsing, took 1 picture and sms'd it, and LED desire (first time used since re-installed) I do keep both my wifi and BT on, 4g off. Ive been in good signal range all day.
I've created service which has LocationListener in it. In order to keep service running the service is set as foreground. I have some questions about phone power management and sleeping in that circumstances: Will phone go to sleep while such service is running? How can I save power in this stuation?

According to Spare Parts my phone is spending nearly 86% of the time without sleeping (Nearly 10h out of the 11 1/2h since my phone was unplugged) I tried to find a possible app that was causing the problem but couldn't find anything unusual.

Prior to the update i was getting about 2 days usage out of the phone, its now struggling to last a day at times and by that i mean about 8-10 hours. I think there is an application or process that is stopping my phone from sleeping and i was wondering if you could help identify and then fix it if possible? Also, one of the things i have noticed is that my applications have started updating automatically...prior to 2.2 update I would get notified but could chose whether or not to download them...is there any way i can revert the phone back to the original state?

A couple of days ago I posted a question on what you guys did so that you could still receive emergency calls at night without the phone disturbing you letting you know you got a spam email at 3am.Several of you mentioned that I could go and change my notification volume, but doing that every night was too much work and I was bound to forget or silence my calls and forget to turn it back on in the morning.I found this wonderful FREE app called Sweet dreams. You set the time at which you go to sleep and it has several options such as disabling gps, wifi, bluetooth and putting your ringer and notification volume at whatever you want.You set the wakeup time as well so the phone turns things back on for you in the morning.

View 2 Replies View RelatedI had just posted on these forums about my phone not sleeping. That was with 1.5. The next day, I put the 2.1 leak on my phone. And that seemed to fix the problem and the phone's up time was far greater than its awake time. A couple days later - and once again, the up and awake times are the exact same and my battery seems to be going down faster. I've been poking around for any other posts with the same issue - but haven't found any.
