Samsung Captivate :: What Do You Use Your 32gb Microsd For?
Aug 29, 2010
I've been going between getting a 16gb or 32gb card, and am having trouble deciding how much space I really need. I was wondering what peoples experiences are with the 32gb card, and how they fill them (or if they can).I imagine that if I need to ask, then it should be apparent I don't need a 32gb card, but I still want to hear peoples experiences.

You might have seen this around the forums or other places: 32GB MicroSD. Its the 32GB MicroSD that Verizon is selling for $99 with FREE overnight shipping for their phones. You can buy it without having anything with Verizon, though.
I now have mine installed in my Captivate and the thing is great. I have 29GB of Music/Videos/Pictures loaded up on it and playing back ANYTHING on my phone is fast and doesn't stutter. I know I had some questions about this so I just wanted to post that yes, you CAN enjoy 48GB of space on a Captivate without worrying about Class size speed issues, worrying about the card being fake, etc. Well worth the 100 bucks. The money you can save from Wirefly/Amazon/Walmart etc can easily pay for this.

Hey folks HumanMachine here with a little query for those of you who were lucky enough to have picked up a 32GB MicroSD for your phones.I had, and lost mine, in the course of two days. Short story incoming. TLDR Below I was using my phone at work and decided to change my Live Wallpaper, I'd downloaded a few of them and was going through them just to see how they looked in motion. I remember specifically looking at the "Starfield" wallpaper. I then selected the "Battery - Couple the ship's energy source with phone's battery" To see what the option did. I backed out to apply the Wallpaper. And the Droid X locks. Weird I thought, maybe she's just lagged.Turned out a lot worse than that. She was just straight up frozen. Stuck on this unusable frozen starfield. I couldn't quite remember how to reboot the phone. or even if it were possible, Couldn't power her down, so I removed her battery, figured that would be enough to get her back to life.I was met with a message, once the phone loaded up. "SD Card blank or has unsupported filesystem" Not the first time I've seen this issue pop up on the android forums. I immediately popped the MicroSD card into my little USB dongle and attempted to access the MicroSD. Shows up in "My Computer" just fine. but when I tried to access it? "Please insert disc" et cetera et cetera.
I try to format. No dice, Computer won't even find the thing. Try my SD formatter, no dice.Stick the 16 GB card back into the phone, and we're sailing again. And here I am staring sadly at the card.I tried for about an hour more to breathe some life into it. I just couldn't get the computer or phone to read the card. Same error messages.TLDR For those of you who wanted to skip the story SD Card died. pathetically, didn't lose much but still. My question, do we have any idea what the failure rates are on these bad boys? I didn't mistreat or even do much with mine before this issue came up. Hopefully I just had a lemon. Unfortunately, the store I got mine at. Verizon store actually, didn't have any, nor do they know when they will get a shipment of them.I'm bummed. go figure. Time to play the waiting game.

Has anyone gotten any info about the stock headphones that comes with the EVO? I want to know how good is the sound quality and are there any controls on the headset itself? Also, has anyone located a 32GB microSD card for it yet?

i have a new card and after transfering the files (which takes forever) the files are not there. on one occasion i transfered the files then inserted the card into my evo and then the music player says the file is not playable then the files seem to disappear. i am new to microsd cards but not new to pc hardware and software. to me i view the new evo as almost a mini laptop with a phone built in.
the damn phone does everything and is my first and probably last cell phone. about the card though, i formated it with my pc (windows 7) with the multimedia card reader built in. and had no luck with this issue then... i formatted the card with the phone and still no change. it is like the files just disappear

Doubletwist on my mac synced my itunes music library to the internal storage, not my new 32GB micro sd card. Try as I might I can't seem to find any setting to select this. Both internal and 32GB were mounted in Finder. Should I have unmounted the internal storage? Or is something else appropriate? What about copying the Music folder from the internal to the 32GB?

I'd like to start collecting MicroSD card benchmarks. If you have bought a MicroSD card for use in your Captivate, please help out.
To test:
Install the following:
SD Card Speed Tester - Android app on AppBrain
Run it several times to make sure you don't get a fluke low number (like from momentary activity). If your phone is idle, you should get consistent results.
Then, please post to this thread with the following:
Card brand/model
Capacity
"Class" rating
Write speed (MB/s)
Read speed (MB/s)
Although it's not made obvious, the author has updated this app so that on Galaxy S phones it appends sd/ to the test path in order to test the external card (if present).

1) If i download a movie file of 700mb, avi, can i just transfer to my microsd or internal memory and play the file flawlessly? I needed to compress file to play on my bold, or it would be extremely choppy. Also, what about a 720p video quality movie? file size 1.4gb, will it be choppy?
2) Is there an app on android market for the android forums? one that will give notifications when replies or messages are sent? i know crackberry had one on the blackberry, but was really just a shortcut to their forums.

I finally got around transferring my 32Gig card out of my Evo and into the Epic. After I put it in I decided to clean it and reformat it in the Epic. Epic starts the format then comes up with a message "card damaged cant format". I put the same card in the Evo and it formatted just fine and then worked in the Epic. Then I tried to format it again in the Epic and again I get the card damaged pop up. Again it reformatted just fine in the Evo. Any ideas anyone else get this message? Just to add I tried to format a smaller card in the Epic and it was able to format that fine. Once the 32gig card is formatted in the Evo it will work fine in the Epic.

I just bought my micro sd card (8g) and I inserted it into my phone. It says its there but I don't know how to transfer my apps or music, videos, extc onto it! I have the Samsung Galaxy Rush. I tried downloading apps to move it but it says there is an option 'move to sd card' and there isn't. Is it not reading the micro sd card right? I tried moving simple apps, messenger, bubble worlds, fruit ninja, whale trails, things like that but all it said was clear cache and no other options. I downloaded a few of these apps to transfer to the sd but they didn't work. I don't really know what to do because it says I have little space but the sd card is in there. It has 7 gigs of space but nothing is on it. How do I transfer my apps?

I'm considering the possibility of selling my Behold 2 phone and getting something a little better supported (anything HTC, for example). I know how to flash the ROM back to the Stock, but, how do I re-format/prepare my MicroSD card in the phone back to it's factory settings?
And is there anything else that anyone thinks I will need to do in preparation for selling it?

Earlier today I got an OTA upgrade of my Samsung Galaxy S4 to Jellybean 4.3.
Everything is working great except for some reason my external SD card (A 64 GB SanDisk MicroSD) is read only. The only thing I can do with it is to format it. Otherwise all write operations to it fail.
I have tried two different cards and several different apps (Terminal, Astro File Manager for instance) and none of them can write to the device.
I am almost thinking it is a matter of a missing new permission but I can't find anything in the SDK docs about it (If this is the case that is fine because my main use of the card is a home made music player that I've written).

So I painfully watched my Cappy's battery door crushed under my friend's car as one of their "harmless" joke. Now there's not a single site on the internet selling these doors, and I'm desperate. I found dummy/display Captivates though, so I was just wondering if anyone knows if the dummy battery door can replace the REAL door by any chance?

I got AT&T Samsung Captivate i897 (2.1 Eclair). I unlocked and rooted my phone. I was using simple free phone earlier which doesn't require data plan but after two weeks I bought samsung captivate, AT&T added $25 data plan. I got my phone from AT&T store where my friend works so he took my data plan out of the plan for now but he said they will find out and add into your plan again. Also, He said that they recognize by your IMEI number. My question is: Is there anyway I can change my IMEI number? I was thinking to use my simple free Nokia phone's IMEI number and use it for Samsung Captivate so AT&T thinks that I am using Nokia phone.

After running three updates this morning. I started getting a weird light effect when I unlock my phone. It happens at the top of the screen just to the right below the battery. It's a quick yellow glow then it disappears until my phone is locked then unlocked again. One of the updates had to do with my weather widget [Weather & toggle]. Anyone seen or heard of this?

I have an unlocked captivate. I have a German T-D1 pay-as-you-go sim that I've used many times in unlocked GPS phones. Now I have an AT&T captivate and wonder whether GPS or other apps will work. Does GPS require a data plan to work? If so I'll have to figure out whetted I can add this to my T-D1 plan. This will also answer my question about whether using the Captivate for navigation in the US needs a data plan to work.

I rooted my Captivate tonight and I know how the superuser icon with android skull and crossbones. However neither Super Manager or ASTRO will allow me to uninstall the crap ware on my phone. Is there something I'm missing? I followed all the steps at XDA. So far I've tried to remove YPMobile, ATT Navigator, and ATT Maps. Any suggestions? I tried searching this on google and this forum but didn't come up with anything.

Noticed since I work in a rather quiet environment. During office hours I need to keep it on vibrate mode. When the phone vibrates during a call, it causes a severe rattling noise when the phone is in my hands or if the bottom is not resting against a hard object. Removing the battery compartment cover and repeat, and the rattle is non existent. With the battery cover on, the rattle can be diminished by pressing firmly on the top section of the cover.
