Suppose I like another email app better than the one that is built in. How can I make it so the email icon on my home screen goes to that app instead of the factory email app? Or maybe there is a way to delete the factory icon and insert a new one in that area?

View 11 Replies View RelatedI've rooted my phone and used TitaniumBackup to remove the AT&T bloatware. I've also configured it for sideloading apps so I could load the SiriusXM app from their website. Of course - now I can't get the OTA update. I just get the error where it says it's downloading, restarts the phone, says it's installing then reboots the phone again and says the update failed.
Maybe the OTA update is trying to update one of the bloatware apps and that's why it's failing? Or would removing the Superuser app (unrooting) and Busybox be enough to get the update?
Either way - because I deleted the apps using TitaniumBackup I have no backup (I know, I'm an idiot). I thought I did a TB backup before removing the apps but I have no idea where to look to restore them. They aren't listed in the app list when I click on Backup/Restore.
I want 2.2 but I removed some stock bloatware apps and my froyo OTAs always fail. Can I get the stock bloat apps back by simply doing a revert to factory settings?
I'm worried that a factory reset won't revert them because I theoretically shouldn't have been able to ever remove "system" apps in the first place. I'd like to hope/think that the developers would have this feature as part of a reset but who knows.
I just bought a Samsung Nexus $G LTE phone for Verizon. Previous owner installed a custom cyanogenmod kernel. I don't care for this kernel or setup, how do I install the stock factory Verizon image? Is there an easy way to do it without bricking the phone?

I did start the update, but canceled it as soon as I saw it was downloading.would that be why I don't see the setting? I wanted to see if I the update was available a few days ago. I didn't know it would just start downloading it. I want to do factory restore before I do update because I'm rooted and done the lag fix.

1. keep syncing phone book over 3g (even if on wifi) sometimes 3 or 4 time in a 5 min span and even if background sync is off
2. random power downs
3. no market update (is this something I need to do manually?)
4. Sometimes 3g and wifi on at the same time.
I want to try a factory reset on my Captivate before I return it for horrible battery life. I can figure out how to do the reset. Can anyone help a noob out?

I didn't back them up either (I know I'm an idiot) well now I need somethings back, like voice recorder. But I can't seem to figure out how to do that. I can format the phone clear all the stuff but nothing brings it back. How do I restore this thing to factory defaults with everything installed????? Under settings, applications, USB settings, there is an option for PC Internet that wasnt there originally. When I try to go to software update, it says Communication Failed. Unable to connect to ATT servers.
Coincidence that this started now, or is there something wrong? I reset the phone twice, and reloaded Odin twice. Everything else seems to work fine.
I know when I dumped my Incredible for an EVO, I couldn't just transfer my APPBrain apps to the EVO; I am replacing my current EVO for a new one tomorrow, and I am wondering if I have to find/download all my apps again, or I can just re-sync the new phone once I put AppBrain on it.

I can say "next time I'm at Target, remind me to get laundry detergent" and bingo, the next time I go to my local Target a reminder pops up! You can make it more generic also by saying "next time I'm in Woodbury, remind me to pick up my wife's gift" and the next time I drive through Woodbury, another reminder. I also use it by saying things like, "in two weeks remind me to xx" or "on June 15th at 2pm remind me to xx".

View 6 Replies View RelatedI have a Droid and accordingly, have all of the stock Google Apps which come with Vanilla android. I work in the IT department at a University, though, and we're trying to decide on policy regarding the syncing of mobile phones and the level of support which we offer to customers. Android phones have been a burden because of manufacturer customization. We've had many issues with Galaxy users, motoblur users, and especially Sense users, specifically related to syncing properly with exchange servers.I've only just realized that the manufacturer customizations are not just skins, they replaced entire apps, such as the email app, with what seems to be inferior apps. Vanilla Android, with the stock email app seems to have no trouble syncing to the exchange server. On the other hand, the Sense app, for example, will not. Instead of recommending fixes for each manufacturer, we are recommending the use of Touchdown (which is 20 dollars and it bothers me to have to recommend one of the most expensive apps in the market).I know that the stock app has no issues with Exchange sync of calendars, contacts, and email. Is there any way, on a non-rooted HTC phone for example, to replace the sense app with the stock app?Worst of all is the fact that instead of finding a resolution to the issue, the school is recommending the iPhone, stating that it is "more compatible" with the school's server. I know this isn't true and hate sending business in Apple's direction, so I'd really like to help find a resolution to this.

Does Android have support for apps that you can use to password protect certain apps on the phone? Like messages, and photos for more private stuff. Another question I have: is the Captivates reception really bad? I currently have the iPhone 4 while it doesn't have the best of signal, its not too bad either. And my last question is if the captivate has support for 32gb cards. I'm sorry if someones already gone over these but I could find anything right away. View 1 Replies View RelatedI have used the stock email app, and setup four email accounts on my Samsung Captivate. For what is now the second time, I had my email where I can view titles, it updates to show me new email titles, and I can even delete emails. My issue is that I have gotten into the mode where the email app dies when I try to view an individual email. Both AT&T and Samsung support has been the scripted delete an account then try to remake the account. no difference? Well then let's reset the phone.. Now at the second time this has occurred, I am starting to get frustrated with the phone (I really do love the phone otherwise).
The first time it happened, I first had all of my accounts wiped out. After reinputting them, it took a day for the crashes to happen. After resetting the phone and redownloading most of my apps, it took three days for it to start crashing again. The only "out of the ordinary" thing I did the second time was update four pieces of software ("Google Maps", "Dominoes", "Buffaloian", and one other one I cannot remember). The next morning, my mail crashing restarted again.
I did the one click lag fix and have to return my phone but it won't unroot properly and am stuck with the superuser skull and cross bones app on my phone?
