Oct 10, 2010
I just got my first Android phone yesterday from the iPhone 4 and so far I am really happy. he only thing that is bothering me is the battery life. downloaded the widget Battery Watcher so I can keep and eye. This morning, I unplugged my phone and the "fully charged" message was on the screen.Battery Watcher said 100%I sent ONE SMS message and it went to 98%.

I've had the captivate for about a week now and I haven't noticed much improvement on the battery life. I have discharged/recharged the battery a few times and nothing much has changed. The main issue is that overnight, the phone will go from 100% charge to 75/80% charge. I only have wifi on; bluetooth, gps, sync are all off. I also kill all applications except for a battery status notifier and the sms application.I have noticed, though, that when I sometimes open the task manager I find applications that are open, which I have never touched (ex. music player, video player). Could this be the problem and how would I fix this.Any help is appreciated cause at this point I have trouble making it through one whole day with the phone.

I've been looking at these forums and some say they get 15hours + on regular usuage and others such ass myself get 6. Im pretty sure by now all of us have our settings pretty much the same. Gps,wifi,bt,background data off. Turn screen brigtness down etc. I think that maybe there's a bad batch of batteries out here....When the palm pre came out EVERYBODY had bad battery life so it was no question. With evo its some have horrible batt life, some have aweome batt life and the rest don't use it enough to actually know.

I'm fairly certain that I've got a defective battery in this thing. It's constantly running hot, and sometimes it gets up to over 110 degrees. Battery life is AWFUL and I've tried every tweak and fix I can find. Will VZW replace this for me?

The AT&T manual advises you to fully charge your battery when you get it while samsung tells you what I have always heard, which is to fully drain and recharge the battery when you first get the phone. This is what I have always done. Is fully discharging and then recharging the right thing to do? I would assume so, but I want to hear it from you guys.
Second. After the problem, I have become damn near paranoid on charging the phone. Since the purchase I ran it down completely until the phone shut itself down. I then fully charged the phone in one sitting. Am I now free to plug and pull when I need to? Should I do a couple more full cycles? God, this all sounds silly even while typing this..lol, but I have been sitting it opposite rooms because I am afraid to move the phone and break the charge...lol. God...I feel dumb. Don't laugh too much...Maybe I am?

Since I got my Captivate just a couple of weeks after it hit the market, I experienced really good battery life. I could plug the charger in at 6:00 when I get up, take it off the charger at 7:30 when I leave for work, and make it til the next morning most days.A couple of weeks ago, I left for work with a full charge, and around 11:00 I took out my phone to test WiFi coverage for some new access points we had installed in the office. The phone felt very warm, and the battery indicator was yellow. For the next couple of days it went like this. I had a spare Samsung battery from when AT&T sent us a new one for my wife's Captivate when she was having random shutdown issues, so I swapped batteries. Things were fine for 10-11 days. Then suddenly last evening about 7:30, when I went to look something up online with my phone, it was very warm again, and the battery indicator was red. Had to put it on the car charger when I left church. When I got home, I put it on the charger all night. By midday today, it was in the yellow, and it finally died about an hour ago. again the handset felt very warm. I don't have a spare USB cable here at work, so will have to wait to get home to charge it. Anything particular I should look for on the phone (running apps, etc.)? Or do I just need to go ahead and place a call to AT&T support?

I haven't been getting very good battery life (less than one day with VERY minimal actual use). I installed Android System Info and went to DashBoard, then Battery, then History. If I select "Other usage" and "Since last unplugged" it shows "Running" as 100%. When I click on the "Running" bar it says "Time spent without sleeping: 14h 43m 15s (100%)". So it looks like it hasn't gone to sleep at all since I unplugged it.
7 of those 14+ hours was spent sitting on my desk at work and 90% or more of the rest of the time was spent either in my jacket pocket or sitting on the table at home. I spent maybe 30 mins reading texts and browsing the market and didn't do anything else with the phone all day.
Should it not have gone to sleep for at least some of that time? Could this be why the battery is pretty much dead by the end of the day? Is there a way to figure out why it's not going to sleep at all?

For any android phone. How should one use/ charge the phone when it's new?
I know that With the nexus one, people are told to fully charge the phone for an amount of time before even turning on the phone.
Once I get my samsung captivate should I do the same or something different?

So I have had my phone since before launch and I have noticed the battery drain as others have but here is my question. Do you think it is the battery or the phone?
If I can go to the store and just get a new battery that would be nice because I have rooted and customized and downloaded apps and if it is the battery that is causing the problem it would be so much more convenient to get a new battery.

So after flashing to the JH2 firmware, I noticed that the battery is reaching high temperatures during voice calls - Before the firmware flash, the phone would not get above 100 degrees during a voice call. After 8 minutes on a voice call, the phone is reaching upwards of 110 degrees.

So I painfully watched my Cappy's battery door crushed under my friend's car as one of their "harmless" joke. Now there's not a single site on the internet selling these doors, and I'm desperate. I found dummy/display Captivates though, so I was just wondering if anyone knows if the dummy battery door can replace the REAL door by any chance?

I got 2 EVOS Saturday. Mine flys super fast and no problems with apps. My wifes EVO isn't quite as fast as mine for some reason and apps crash a lot....she is at work now trying to use pandora and it plays for about 20 seconds and stops working. It has asked her if she wants to force close it twice already today.....Her coworkers have sprint and they are using pandora next to her with no problem so its not coverage. Whats the best way to go about exchanging it?

Does anyone know if there is going to be or if there usually is an extended battery that will eventually be offered for this phone? And if so, you think they will be able to keep it slim or am I going to have a giant brick in my pocket if I use an extended battery?

I've had this phone for over a month, and I am ashamed I didn't figure this out until now. As you all know, the short battery life is mainly due to the huge Captivate screen. I found out that there is another brightness setting for the stock browser. This setting is independent from the phone brightness setting. Along with using a black wallpaper, keeping the phone brightness and browser brightness all the way down, I found the battery is lasting noticeably longer.

My battery is still really, really bad. I did manage to last an entire day with 30 percent left by not using it at all, but other than that, that's pretty useless. If I wanted to exchange the battery, would I be able to do that rather than turning over the entire phone and getting back a new one? I don't feel the capacity to hard reset this phone, give it in, then re-root and do all the things I'm supposed to do with this phone all over again.

I've had my phone for a few weeks now and after power cycling it twice when I first got it I've had better battery life. I recently decided to cycle it one more time as everyone says to do it 3 times. So last night I killed it then fully charged it to 100.At full charge I unplugged the phone and went to sleep.I woke up about 9 hours later to now find my phone at 72% battery.WTF? For 9 hours of standby. Before hand I was only goin down like 7 or 8 % while I sleep.Am I screwed now?

My battery life has been getting worse over the last few weeks. This morning in 5 hours since my last charge it is at 11%.This is with only 15 minutes of talk time and 40 minutes of display. My question is how bad is bad enough to get a replacement? Is there anyway I can get a new phone out of them and not just a new battery?

I have been having some battery issues on my Captivate and can only seem to get through 12 or so hours with minimal use and it is quite bothersome. The main reason I bought the phone was because of its battery life and so far, I am disappointed. For instance, I charged my phone all night, woke up and made a less than one minute phone call, looked at my status and I was at 96%. As the day went on with minimal use, it seems to drain without me even touching it. As of now (13 hours later), my battery icon is blue and showing halfway full, but the battery status says 36% which does not add up to me. I also don't have a live wallpaper and have Advanced Task Manager that kills all apps as well as GPS and Wifi turned off. Any tips? Should I take it back and get a new one or see if I can get a new battery?

To all those who have battery issues.... How long do you charge your battery for? Check this out:
Saturday night -> Sunday - charged phone for 7 hours
Sunday - about 18-19 hrs of battery life - moderate usage
Charged from 6pm sunday night to 4am monday - (10 hours on charger)
Monday -> Tuesday - 38 hours of battery life - moderate usage
Charged tuesday from 1030pm to 4am wednesday (6 hours on charger
Tuesday - 16 hours of battery life - moderate usage.
BOTTOM LINE: I think the phone says it is charged way before it actually is full. Let me know if anyone else is having the same issues....

So coming from a BB and iPhone I never had to worry about leaving my phone on the charger all night. This being said I would like to do the same with my cappy but I am afraid that I will destroy the battery. Do you guys leave your phone on the charger over night? The only reason I am concerned about this is because the stupid phone actually tells me to unplug it when it is charged. This leads me to believe that it will over charge the battery if I leave it on...

My Captivate has been plugged in for the past 2+ hours and I barely have 40% battery. Also, my charging cord doesn't stay plugged in. If I pick it up at all while it is charging, the cord falls out. I love this phone, but this may be a deal breaker. What are the chances these issues are just with the phone? Should I go to AT&T and get a new one?

I seem to be having what I consider unacceptible battery life and I wanted to collect some thoughts on how to improve it, or if I should seek remedy with AT&T or something. At this point, the phone is of limited use to me because it dies part way through the day, which is unacceptable. Normal routine. Phone charges completely overnight. I unplug my phone sometime in the 7am hour. I usually get my first battery warning around 3pm. Phone usually shuts itself off around 5-7pm (hence, a serious problem). Since the phone is dying, it is "cycling" the battery every time I charge it. My day is what I would consider moderate usage. For comparison, my Samsung Jack last a day and a half under the same conditions. My settings for display and other things are essentially stock.
I pulled the battery stats the last time the phone died just as it was shutting itself off.
Total time: 11h 49m
Display: 39% 1h 22m
Cell idle: 12% 10h 19m
Cell Standby: 25% 11h 41m, No signal 6%
Android system: 6% CPU background 22m, CPU Foreground 9s
Palringo: 6% Background 22m, foreground 3s
Android OS: 4% 12m
Doplhin HD Browser: 2% 6m 29s, 3m 58s
Android Core apps 2%
Good 2% 4m 50s, 31s

I think its totally died like 3 or 4 times now but it still seems to die very quickly. I have the adv app killer on there, i turn off bluetooth when not in use, brightness is as low as it will go, no hectic feedback, gps off and yet i still know that by the time i get home unless i charge it in the car, i won't be able to use my phone after work. so, i'd like your guys thoughts on whether it would be worth it to take back to the at&t store and swap it out for a new one?
