This thread is for people like me, who ARE NOT using screen protectors. Just wondering if anyone in this forum has any scratches on their Captivate screen and if so, from what? I've had my Captivate since the beginning of August and do not have one scratch on the screen. Feel free to share your stories.

"Corning today announced that its Gorilla Glass -- an ultra durable alkali-aluminosilicate that can withstand the most uber of scratches is engineered into all Samsung Galaxy S phones. The company even goes as far to say that its product enhances the performance of the already eye-popping brilliant Super AMOLED display. Now, itunderstood that the Gorilla Glass doesn make the screen brighter or crisper, but it certainly does add to the phone premium feature set by giving that beautiful screen some much needed protection. All in all, that Super AMOLED screen isn as fragile as you might think, and this could definitely be seen as another reason to choose Samsung gem over the competition." Last week I contacted HTC and asked them if the Incredible's screen was indeed glass (since whatever they do, it tends to feel like plastic compared to other phones) and whether it had an oleophobic coating. I pretty much knew it was glass already, so I was more interested in the oleophobic coating question. They got back to me today and what they said was quite surprising.

I've been Googling around trying to find some objective information on Gorilla glass with no luck. It's either Corning's promotional material on the subject raving about how you'll never break your phone again, or someone that bought a Droid, cracked it, and they are screaming about how much it sucks. What I'd like to find is some kind of reliable source that has done a study on it. I studied engineering and, from what I remember, we were taught that the harder something was the more brittle it would be. Of course, that was 15 years ago and there's a good chance I'm remembering it wrong. Does anyone know for sure? Have a source you can point me at?

Hey everyone, I'm new to the forum and was hoping someone might know if the droid 2 has gorilla glass or not. I've searched everywhere and can't find any info on the droid 2's screen material. I know the X and original droid have gorilla glass and was hoping the 2 would as well especially since I just bought one. I have a screen protector on it that I'm not particularly fond of and would take it off if it has gorilla glass.

Ok, so now mostly everyone has had time to play with their Droid X, and yet everyone is still worried about possibly scratching the screen on their phone. My question is does the phone has gorilla glass or not?? I saw some Youtube vids where a guy takes a key to the screen and tries to scratch the hell out of it. Yet, not a single visible scratch is seen. Can someone verify that it does have gorilla glass and therefore doesn't really need a screen protector other than for smudge proofing.

We need to know and it seems no one has a definitive answer as of yet. Some say yes, some say no idea. So can anyone chime in with a definitive answer? perhaps from the user manual or a features list?

So I ordered a xoskins scratch protector for my droid. It should be here today or tomorrow so my droid is naked right now. Has anyone been able to scratch their gorilla glass? Someone was saying sand can scratch it, but I can't find who said that...

There has been a lot of discussion about screen protectors - which I have read with interest. Just saw this on Engadget: Corning's darn-near-impenetrable Gorilla glass certainly isn't new -- in fact, we spied it in a few of Motion Computing's tablets just a few months ago -- but it's still not commonplace on mainstream gizmos. Yet. SmartPlanet sat down with Dr. Donnell Walton, senior applications engineer at Corning, in order to discuss the merits of the display technology as well as its importance in the gadget space. The discussion also mentioned that both Motorola's Droid and Dell's Adamo (not to mention Cowon's S9 PMP) are sporting the glass, which acts to make displays "damage-resistant." Not surprisingly, the company is seeing huge demand in the smartphone arena, where touchscreen-centric phones are being shoved into pockets at random and then costing manufacturers big bucks as return rates creep up. It's a pretty interesting read if you're into that type of thing, and yes, we did just give you permission to try and split your Droid display wide open in a moment of frustration. Just don't count on Motorola to accept that as a valid excuse for your RMA.

I dropped mine about 1-2 feet onto the sidewalk and the glass shattered. I'm currently trying to decide whether I want to pay the $162 to get it fixed or sell it for parts on ebay. Thing is, Samsung claims they've only had to replace the glass on 3 captivates so far, and I cannot find a single screen-damaged Captivate on ebay past or present. Did I just have really really bad luck with my drop? I find it hard to believe that so few are getting broken. If I do fix and keep my Captivate I want to get a really protective case for it.

I have recently picked up a Samsung Galaxy S Captivate (Android 2.1) on Rogers Wireless. I've been having an issue with the wifi on it, it only works intermittently when I'm at home. It will connect to my network without issues, but none of the data-enabled apps can access anything, they just time out. While this is happening my old iPhone (recent android convert) and my Nintendo Wii are able to connect flawlessly. This ONLY happens when I'm at home on my own network from what I've seen, when I'm on the wifi at my work everything works fine. Has anyone seen issues like this or have any suggestions as to what may be causing it? FYI I have tried different wifi channels, currently my router is setup to use TKIP on WPA2 for encryption.

I Have been using the HTC Incredible for 5-6 weeks now and really love it. Yes, the battery life is not great, but I am over that having 3 fully charged batteries before I go out the door each morning.
Can anyone tell me, who has used the Dinc AND the Samsung Galaxy S if there is, other than larger 4" screen, any reason why I would want to go from the Dinc to the Galaxy phone? When the new 2.2 Android software and HTC OTA update comes out, my understanding is the Dinc will also be able to record HD video as well as serve as a hotspot for WiFi.

How do you remove that annoying Samsung Galaxy S bookmark? Is there a file to delete since you cannot remove it through the phone? Go to browser. Go to bookmarks. See that one? Click on it. Enjoy what you see for the last time. Then go to bookmarks again. Click the last tab "history" on top. Find that galaxshelp entry in there, and it would have a yellow star to it, meaning that the history entry is bookmarked. Hit the star to un-bookmark. You are done.

I recently got my Samsung Captivate and it works pretty well (even the GPS) however, when I try to update is (manually) it takes forever trying to connect to the server and in the end it never does (and thus I cannot connect for another twenty-four hours). So I said ok, i'll use Kies to update the phone, so I download Kies and try - however, the when I connect Kies says "The Device is not supported by Kies" and as such I cannot interact with my phone in this manner.
