Droid :: Motorola Latest To Get Gorilla Glass

Dec 23, 2009

There has been a lot of discussion about screen protectors - which I have read with interest. Just saw this on Engadget: Corning's darn-near-impenetrable Gorilla glass certainly isn't new -- in fact, we spied it in a few of Motion Computing's tablets just a few months ago -- but it's still not commonplace on mainstream gizmos. Yet. SmartPlanet sat down with Dr. Donnell Walton, senior applications engineer at Corning, in order to discuss the merits of the display technology as well as its importance in the gadget space. The discussion also mentioned that both Motorola's Droid and Dell's Adamo (not to mention Cowon's S9 PMP) are sporting the glass, which acts to make displays "damage-resistant." Not surprisingly, the company is seeing huge demand in the smartphone arena, where touchscreen-centric phones are being shoved into pockets at random and then costing manufacturers big bucks as return rates creep up. It's a pretty interesting read if you're into that type of thing, and yes, we did just give you permission to try and split your Droid display wide open in a moment of frustration. Just don't count on Motorola to accept that as a valid excuse for your RMA.

Motorola :: Does Droid 2 Have Gorilla Glass?

Sep 4, 2010

Hey everyone, I'm new to the forum and was hoping someone might know if the droid 2 has gorilla glass or not. I've searched everywhere and can't find any info on the droid 2's screen material. I know the X and original droid have gorilla glass and was hoping the 2 would as well especially since I just bought one. I have a screen protector on it that I'm not particularly fond of and would take it off if it has gorilla glass.

Motorola :: Gorilla Glass On The Droid X?

Jul 22, 2010

Ok, so now mostly everyone has had time to play with their Droid X, and yet everyone is still worried about possibly scratching the screen on their phone. My question is does the phone has gorilla glass or not?? I saw some Youtube vids where a guy takes a key to the screen and tries to scratch the hell out of it. Yet, not a single visible scratch is seen. Can someone verify that it does have gorilla glass and therefore doesn't really need a screen protector other than for smudge proofing.

HTC :: Incredible Using Gorilla Glass?

May 6, 2010

Last week I contacted HTC and asked them if the Incredible's screen was indeed glass (since whatever they do, it tends to feel like plastic compared to other phones) and whether it had an oleophobic coating. I pretty much knew it was glass already, so I was more interested in the oleophobic coating question. They got back to me today and what they said was quite surprising.

Android :: Does Gorilla Glass Really Work?

Sep 24, 2010

I've been Googling around trying to find some objective information on Gorilla glass with no luck. It's either Corning's promotional material on the subject raving about how you'll never break your phone again, or someone that bought a Droid, cracked it, and they are screaming about how much it sucks. What I'd like to find is some kind of reliable source that has done a study on it. I studied engineering and, from what I remember, we were taught that the harder something was the more brittle it would be. Of course, that was 15 years ago and there's a good chance I'm remembering it wrong. Does anyone know for sure? Have a source you can point me at?

4G :: Official Samsung Epic Made With Gorilla Glass

Aug 23, 2010

"Corning today announced that its Gorilla Glass -- an ultra durable alkali-aluminosilicate that can withstand the most uber of scratches is engineered into all Samsung Galaxy S phones. The company even goes as far to say that its product enhances the performance of the already eye-popping brilliant Super AMOLED display. Now, itunderstood that the Gorilla Glass doesn make the screen brighter or crisper, but it certainly does add to the phone premium feature set by giving that beautiful screen some much needed protection. All in all, that Super AMOLED screen isn as fragile as you might think, and this could definitely be seen as another reason to choose Samsung gem over the competition." Motorola Droid :: Trying To Install Smoked Glass 6.0.1

Apr 20, 2010

I've rooted my phone. I've installed SP Recovery and performed a nandroid backup. I'm trying to install Smoked Glass 6.0.1 by placing the file on the root of my sd card and not inside any folder. I boot into SP Recovery and select install and select the file "Smoked.Glass.v.6.0.1-ESE53.rom". Whatever takes place after that while it is installing, is beyond me. I don't receive any type of customization options such as blue theme or no blue theme. It supposedly finishes installing so I reboot the phone and nothing has changed at all, I'm still running whatever I was currently running prior to the install. Any suggestions?

I heave searched about how to restore youtube and I do know how to do it and start over. Is there a way to get youtube back and keep my customized homescreens and new apps? I have searched here and droidforums.net but most posts say "just reflash." Anyone have a little more specifics? I just dont want to lose all my paid apps and customization time.

Motorola Droid :: Dusty Glass - Wallpaper

Dec 25, 2009

I now have dust specs under my screen. That REALLY irritates me. It's as bad as a stuck pixel to me. Yeah, I know I'm a bit OCD, but for me this is really upsetting. I keep my stuff in perfect shape, and I've modified all sorts of gadgets to keep them free of debris inside. I have no idea how to get the dust out from under my screen without disassembly. It sticks out to me like a sore thumb. Blowing it out will likely blow more bits under the screen. The edge of the screen is a trap for dust. I was going to use clear silicone sealant, but I figured I had plenty of time to do that given that I've been babying the phone. I've only had the phone for 10 days. I've rooted it, and I've loaded about 140 apps on it, a few of which are paid for. I haven't checked if I can easily "unroot" my phone without losing everything. I also don't know if all the apps I paid for can be transfered to a new Droid if I return this one....I also don't know if they'll just laugh at me for trying to return my Droid for a new one because of a little bit of dust.
