Samsung Captivate :: Captivate/Android Media Scanner/Playlists ?

Sep 8, 2010

I am having an issue with my M3U playlists.

I use the default Samsung media player, Isyncr and Itunes. Although I have also used the Doubletwist Player (not the desktop software) and had the same issue, I just prefer the Samsung default player mainly because of the lock screen app.

Here is the issue.

First, I sync my playlists with Itunes using Isyncr, all of the songs come over great, art and tags, everything is perfect. It also creates M3U playlists on my phone. I double checked that everything is there.

Then when I unmount, media scanner scans my SD card (which takes way longer than it should) and it deletes all of my playlists. Now a little research on XDA forums tells me that this is because anytime the media scanner scans a playlist and can't find all of the songs from that playlist, it assumes it is an old playlist and deletes it. The problem is that when I look through the M3U files, every song referenced in the list is on the card...they are all there, yet it keeps deleting them.

Does anyone know of a solution to make it stop deleting my playlists?

Samsung Captivate :: Captivate Free At WalMart

Jul 18, 2010

Unbelievable sale at WalMart right now. Free with no contract or 2 year renewal, $229 without a contract. Got mine ordered off contract and overnight delivery for additional $19. No tax, no activation free, and best of all, no need to deal with AT&T store people about dropping price from $500 or switching to a hobbled data plan. If you are more patient than me, they offer $9 for two day shipping or free shipping options as well.

Samsung Captivate :: How To Free Up Space Without Deleting Applications?

Oct 4, 2010

Any ideas on how to free up space without deleting apps? I really like One Click Lag Fix, I don't wanna get rid of it just for space reasons. I was just looking using Root Explorer and there are some massive files in /data/fota. What are they? I have 3 files, fota.status, (Size 36) and fota_delta_dp1 and fota_delta_dp2 both size 62914560. That seems like a lot, I'm guessing it's measured in bytes so that'd be 60 megabytes or so, so 120 total. Are they safe to remove, seems like the results from the over-the-air update.

Samsung Captivate :: Free Location Based WiFi Switch

Jul 24, 2010

For those of you trying to squeeze as much time out of the battery as possible, I came across this nifty program which I don't think has been mentioned yet: AppBrain: Y5 - Battery Saver - Android app on AppBrain Official: Y5 Battery Saver: Home. When you connect to a Wi-Fi network, it uses the GSM base tower identifier (CellID) to determine the location of the Wi-Fi network and stores it in memory. It does not use the GPS. I saved my home network earlier this afternoon and went out, Wi-Fi was turned off while I was out, then after I came home and started using my phone, I was connected again, so it seems to be working so far.

Samsung Captivate :: OTA Update Free Supposed And Not Deducted From Actual Data Usage

Sep 23, 2010

PSA: AT&T doesn't charge you for OTA firmware updates -- Engadget Mobile. So it says that they wont charge us for downloading OTA update, but... my log says otherwise. ( the 13k kb ones are the OTA update download btw) How come it ate up my data usage? I previously had approximately 85-89mb of data usage for the month, but after attempting to download the OTA update quite a few times ( I was frustrated since it keeps telling me that update failed ), it showed up on my data usage log. Now AT&T tells me that I've used 159mb/200mb so far, and I even got a text this morning saying I've used 65% of my data usage for the month. ( I'm on the 200mb data plan ) What the heck is going on? what if there's an OTA update in the future that are three digit long. If I go over my limit, I would have to pay extra $15.00 for another 200mb of data.

Samsung Captivate :: Text Messaging Truncates Area Code

Sep 16, 2010

I am going crazy! Every time I try to text my wife's phone from my contacts, it removes the area code and errors out when trying to send. I have edited the contact info and sure enough it has the correct 10 digit number. I have tried deleting the her contact info and recreating it. No dice. I again deleted her contact info, went to her phone and sent a text to mine and replied. The incoming message has the correct 10 digit number. Replying again stripped the area code and tried to use the 7 digit number. Of course this failed.Any ideas? I need some help here. I am not sure if this is an issue with the phone or with AT&T.

Android :: How To Factor Code For Free / Paid App Versions?

Jan 19, 2010

I have a project which I want to split into a paid and a free version. I do not care to double my management of the res/ folder and would even like the Android Manifest.xml to be the same file except for the package line. Worrying little about hacking (at this stage - my app is not copy protected anyhow so other avenues of vulnerability are already open), it might be sufficient for me to have all the logic in the free app, and to enable/disable functions based on the app's own package info. What strategies have others used in this regard? I have soft-linked the source from a new Android Eclipse project folder tree to the existing one (the new is to become the paid version and the old one will become the free one with some logic paths being conditionally stubbed at runtime), reserving the new source file hierarchy in the new one to the sole purpose of containing an My Main Activity.java file (as it will need to be in a different package- folder than the one for the free app's). But the res folder appears as though it might be more difficult.
