Samsung Captivate :: Looking For A Free Ebook / Pdf Reading App?

Nov 11, 2010

I have a few books and a couple of very large video game manuals on my phone in PDF format.

However just using the adobe pdf viewer is kind of a hassle.

Are there any programs that are ebook like that allow me to import my pdf files? I tried Aldiko but it wouldn't allow me to import them. Says no files found.

Samsung Captivate :: Phone Not Reading Sd Card

Aug 5, 2010

how to apply to lag fix by partitioning my sd card. I followed the guide to the t using Paragon Hard Disk Manager. When I deleted my external SD card partition, it wouldn't let me re-partition it. Now my computer won't even recognize my phone. When I go into settings->SD card and phone storage, both the internal and external SD card show "Unavailable" under the space heading. The unmount and format options are greyed out as well. What do I need to do to get my phone back the way it was? I would just like my phone back the way it was and would like to get this lag fix working. Here are the video tutorials I followed and the original site I found. Samsung Captivate :: Captivate Free At WalMart

Jul 18, 2010

Unbelievable sale at WalMart right now. Free with no contract or 2 year renewal, $229 without a contract. Got mine ordered off contract and overnight delivery for additional $19. No tax, no activation free, and best of all, no need to deal with AT&T store people about dropping price from $500 or switching to a hobbled data plan. If you are more patient than me, they offer $9 for two day shipping or free shipping options as well.

Samsung Captivate :: How To Free Up Space Without Deleting Applications?

Oct 4, 2010

Any ideas on how to free up space without deleting apps? I really like One Click Lag Fix, I don't wanna get rid of it just for space reasons. I was just looking using Root Explorer and there are some massive files in /data/fota. What are they? I have 3 files, fota.status, (Size 36) and fota_delta_dp1 and fota_delta_dp2 both size 62914560. That seems like a lot, I'm guessing it's measured in bytes so that'd be 60 megabytes or so, so 120 total. Are they safe to remove, seems like the results from the over-the-air update.

Samsung Captivate :: Free Location Based WiFi Switch

Jul 24, 2010

For those of you trying to squeeze as much time out of the battery as possible, I came across this nifty program which I don't think has been mentioned yet: AppBrain: Y5 - Battery Saver - Android app on AppBrain Official: Y5 Battery Saver: Home. When you connect to a Wi-Fi network, it uses the GSM base tower identifier (CellID) to determine the location of the Wi-Fi network and stores it in memory. It does not use the GPS. I saved my home network earlier this afternoon and went out, Wi-Fi was turned off while I was out, then after I came home and started using my phone, I was connected again, so it seems to be working so far.

Samsung Captivate :: OTA Update Free Supposed And Not Deducted From Actual Data Usage

Sep 23, 2010

PSA: AT&T doesn't charge you for OTA firmware updates -- Engadget Mobile. So it says that they wont charge us for downloading OTA update, but... my log says otherwise. ( the 13k kb ones are the OTA update download btw) How come it ate up my data usage? I previously had approximately 85-89mb of data usage for the month, but after attempting to download the OTA update quite a few times ( I was frustrated since it keeps telling me that update failed ), it showed up on my data usage log. Now AT&T tells me that I've used 159mb/200mb so far, and I even got a text this morning saying I've used 65% of my data usage for the month. ( I'm on the 200mb data plan ) What the heck is going on? what if there's an OTA update in the future that are three digit long. If I go over my limit, I would have to pay extra $15.00 for another 200mb of data.

Samsung Fascinate :: Music Player Is Not Reading Song Tag Info Of AAC Files Properly

Oct 20, 2010

My music has ID3 version 2.3 tags (most common). About 10% (2,500) of my music is AAC (.m4a) format which is MP4 tagged. All my songs are very organized into 11 different genres. Everything has a title, artist, and album assigned to it and looks great in my iPhone, iTunes, MediaMonkey, and Mp3tag program. When I add my music to my Samsung Fascinate, it reads the tags of my .m4a music but when I go to genre, things are messy. It appears to be putting albums in the genre section (only with .m4a files). Example: Lets say I have an .m4a of Garth Brooks, Thunder Rolls, No Fences (album), Country (genre)In my Samsung Fascinate player, it will be found in the genre section under "No Fences". If I click "Country" genre where it should be, the song will not be listed there. It seems to be reading .m4a Album tags as genre and not reading the appropriate tag "Country".I hope someone can help straighten this out without having either manually edit each song tag OR convert all of them to .mp3 and deplete the song quality.

Android :: Open EBook Reader

Jul 1, 2010

My mother recently indicated that she's considering being in the market for an ebook reader. However she is, bless her soul, firmly insistent on open format, DRM-free, and the ability to "really own" a book she's downloaded. She doesn't even want the potential for a Kindle-1984-type remote-wipe or an inability to move a book to another device later. (Yes, my mother has grown up to be a Free Software evangelist. I'm so proud of her. *sniff*)

Of course, she doesn't know the ebook market all that well, and frankly neither do I. She's considering the B&N Nook, but from what little I know it has the same lock-in problems as the Kindle.

So my question is, I suppose, two-fold:

1) Are there any ebook stores or services available for any device that don't treat customers are criminals waiting to happen, and use a DRM-free format without revocation ability? Are they bound to a given device, or are there any that work on an arbitrary Android device? A good ebook reader app or use of the open ePub format (for which I understand there are several readers available) is a plus here.

2) Of the various devices out there (both phone and non-phone), which make particularly good ebook readers? She has a decently large purse but it still wouldn't hold an iPad-sized device comfortably, but at the same time a 3-inch screen is not going to work for her eyes. (It barely works for mine.) What's a good device if that's your main interest? Any good/bad experiences here, or at least things to look for?

Media :: Good Ebook Reader App

Sep 9, 2010

There are so many good readers out there. It seems that none of them have it all. I think Laputa makes reading fun,in my opinion is the best reader on the market.

This app has changed my relationship with my phone. It is amazing, a must have for avid readers.

Download and read thousands of books right on your Android phone. Anywhere. Anytime.

The page animation is unlike any other page animation - the page actually rolls WITH your finger as you push it across the screen; other page flipping readers have a very fake looking flip compared to this ones

HTC Droid Eris :: Best Ebook Reader

May 6, 2010

Company and reference materials for my work are available in various ebook formats. I currently convert to .pdb and read on a Palm. Also, I enjoy reading ebooks on my handheld, and of course the available library is nearly infinite.

Market and Google Search show a huge spectrum of android ebook readers, with varying levels of user praise and condemnation. I have tried many of them with frustrating results, and still must carry a Palm for ebook-reading. Nothing (that I have evaluated) does my whole job on the Eris.

I need something that will do the following:

.pdb, .txt, or .doc ebooks. Any ONE of these will suffice because I can convert as required. .txt would be best, I supposed, as that's the common denominator.

Auto-scroll. Must be reasonably smooth, easy to start, and variable speed. It's important to be able to control speed without too many button-pushes, perhaps with the volume rocker.

Font control. My aged eyesight requires selection of font type, size, and weight.

Images would be great but are not required.

HTC Droid Eris :: Finding - Using An Ebook Reader

Jun 7, 2010

I have hundreds of books, manuals, and blocks of text information that I wish to read, but with no Eris app that "works" for me I must carry a Palm TX. The material is 100% text, no images.

My requirements are
1. Load text files
2. Adjust font size
3. Controllable scroll
4. Instructions (user guide, manual, etc.)

I've tried Laputa, Aldiko, JJReader, Wordplayer, eReader, and others - and every one of them fails on at least one of the above.

And it's critical that the app provide help in loading, storing, and accessing the files.

Price is unimportant - I really REALLY need an ebook reader!!

This Eris is on 2.1, and is not rooted.
